New Guy Here - Why I NEED to do this.
Tlicous51 replied to Rhodes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is not selfish to want to be skinny again. I had the surgery because of my daughter being born. when I first met my wife I was a 220 pound amateur MMA fighter. after a loss and some things in my life that made me depressed I ballooned up fast. I was eating 5000 calories a day just to keep fit because I was working out so much but when I stopped working out I was still eating that much. I had my surgery in January and have not looked back. I am now down 97 pounds and feel great. I work out 8 or 9 time week to drop the weight and feel great for it. It helps me do my job better and helps me keep up with my wife and child and the remodel of our house. I have been happier because I can be active with wheezing like fatty mcphaterson. It is totally responsible of you to want to take care of yourself for your children. You want to be around for them as long as possible. Before my daughter was born I did not care how long I made it as long as I had a good time the whole time I was here. When my wife got pregnant I immediately starting thinking about my health and how I want to be able to see my grandchildren one day. My dad did not get to make it that long because he lived life like I used to. I hope the best for you and your choice. I don't regret it at all. -

Depression for over a year post-op

I can understand the depression. I was pretty depressed at first. It was such a big change for me not being able to eat what I want or how much I want. I had no program that helped get my mind right before the surgery. It was rough for about a month with the mental hunger aspect. It is true though that going to the gym will help with your depression along with the meds. The scale a lot of times is your enemy. It is about how you feel in your clothes. The weight will come off just keep working hard. -
3 weeks out of surgery and plateauing.

You will get over the plateau and don't let the scale harsh your mellow. Your body is losing inches even if the scale is not moving. I am currently eating about six ounces of food. I just had my second check up with the doc and he approved me to move to phase four. I am making a lot of recipes off of Pintrest. I search for wls recipes. there are a lot of good options for soft food and on not to much for pureed. I eat almost anything just in a much smaller portion or if I decide to make a recipe I look for ways to make it healthier. I do not measure how much I am eating really I just listen to my body and take my time so my brain will register that I am full. I have even been making deserts weekly that my family love and are healthy. I also am jogging about 2.25 miles every other day on my elliptical to help me get over any plateau's. I just got the all clear from the doctor to do any activity so Monday I am going to start back on a weight lifting regiment. I just hope I can get back in shape like my fighting days. just still worry about skin sag. I am not noticing any yet really and am already down 70 lbs. -

thanks everyone for the replies. It's nice to know people are out here rooting for you and letting you know things from personal experience. Its better knowing about the plateau than thinking that I am doing something wrong. -

I am 3 weeks 2 days out of surgery and have lost 45 pounds. but I have not lost any weight in the last 3 days. I know I am eating so little my body should still be losing weight. before the weight gain I was an athlete and when I cut weight I consumed more calories than I am now and would drop weight fast. Has anyone else plateaued this early in their process? I know I should not weigh myself everyday but its a hard habit to break being a former wrestler. -
Thanks everyone for your support. I am doing better with the mental hunger. I am working my best to get past these pureed foods. I only have 5 more days to go on them. I am down 40 pounds already and am back to work. I am getting through it and when I look at my 7 month old daughter I remember why I had the surgery done. It was so I knew I would be able to be around for her for a lot longer than if I would have waited and done nothing.

I had my surgery on the 13th. I am doing pureed foods and they are gross. I am I that phase where I regret it even though I have already lost 30 pounds. I regret letting myself get to where the surgery was a viable option. I am not really hungry physically I am mentally hungry. I just wish I could eat foods that I miss.
