Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015
remzel replied to JosieAppleHead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved June 23rd, had my month pre-op appt yesterday! Incisions are healing well, I am down 25 lbs total from preop liquid diet [2 weeks] to now so 6 weeks total. I got clearance for the gym, so Ill be starting that on Monday. I have been doing ok tolerating most foods, eggs depend on the day - sometimes bothersome and I have not done well with Greek yogurt or whey Protein powder. Other than that, I am very happy with my decision and the progress I'm making! Can't wait to see the lbs and inches continue to go down! -
I have tried a few different individual packets of whey Protein with greek yogurt, milk, muscle milk and Water and every time - and every single time i have one - two sips my stomach is KILLING me. It's not a full feeling, it's pain and discomfort. Has anyone else had this reaction? I was trying to save some money/calories by going to powder instead of continuing with pre-made shakes like muscle milk but it's seriously painful, to the point where I want to leave work and go to bed. I'm not trying to punish myself by continuing to try it - I just want to find a way to make it work. but maybe I'm just intolerant for some reason. Thoughts?

Stomachache after Whey Protein?
remzel replied to remzel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MissRobin I have tried thinning it out - it says 8 oz liquid but i try to use at least 16-20 oz. When I eat Protein I dont have any issues [at least not yet with chicken cold -cuts, turkey breast and chicken sausage]. I'm at the pureed stage so eating these in small quantities/ cutting them up very tiny but they don't give me any trouble. Must be the whey -
Chicken or turkey breast low sodium cold-cuts. I also bought chicken sausage with spinach and feta, grilled it up and then cut it into tiny pieces and took the casing off. One link is 15g of protein and super filling.

I'm one week into pureed stage and it's going pretty well. I've had one scrambled egg for a meal, which was very filling. I have also gotten into low sodium chicken or turkey breast cold-cuts. About 2-3 slices is 2 oz of Protein, sometimes I put a little goat cheese on it and it is extremely satisfying and filling. The cold-cuts are also great because they are moist and easy to have in tiny pieces. Also a small portion of salmon was delicious, and I agree with the above - after all the weeks of chocolate Protein shakes, it was great to move on to my savory foods. I tried greek yogurt 2x and it did not sit well with me AT ALL so I'm moving on from that for now. I made chocolate pudding with muscle milk instead of regular milk and that came out decently well. Portioned it and added a little spoonful of sugar free cool-whip on top. Great dessert. I still have broth, protein shakes and sugar free ice pops when I am in the mood/need to get more protein in.

My surgery was on a Tuesday so I took off Tues-Friday. I had planned on working from home Thurs/Friday but was still a little out of it, tired and just trying to focus on my fluids and walking. I went back to work on Monday and was a little tired the first week, but I have a desk job and I was fine overall. Just do what feels comfortable. My boss is flexible, so I knew if I went in Monday and didn't feel well, I could always work from home on Tuesday.

Greek Yogurt making me burp....anyone else?
remzel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a taste for yogurt before, especially greek yogurt but as it's such a great source of Protein, an easy meal and can be a great vessel - I figured I'd give it a try for lunch today. I got the Fage total 0% with Honey. I dont want all the sugars from the honey, but I figured it would be a good way to ease into the yogurt since it helps mask the flavor. I've had a few bites and now I'm burping like crazy and keep feeling the gas bubbles rise up [and of course, I'm at work where this looks/sounds even better]. Anyone else experience this? Did it go away over time or did you cut out yogurt? I know my sleeve might not like everything, but yogurt just seems too good of an option to give up right away. Thoughts/suggestions? -
I had to go out for a work lunch today [i technically start puree stage tomorrow] and I ordered a quiche. Had a few bites and it went down fine and tasted great. Tomorrow I plan on having a scrambled egg for breakfast and I cant wait

Birthday during week 3 post-op...help!
remzel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's my 25th birthday this wednesday and the first day I can have purees. I am very excited to have a scrambled egg for my birthday Breakfast, but I am not sure what to do for dinner/celebration. I don't want to go out to a meal and have a Soup or something puree while everyone else eats apps, main, dessert etc. If i had to, I know I could make it through but I dont want to put myself in that scenario. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe avoid the celebration and just go see Magic Mike or something fun that will get me out of the house but wont necessarily be centered around food. Has anyone else dealt with this so early in the post op phase? -

Thank you all for the support/suggestions! I know food should no longer be the center of celebrations, but making the transition is difficult - especially when it is still the center for everyone else. Movie night here I come -
Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
remzel replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 5 Post op!!!! Surgery was on Tuesday, was discharged Wednesday morning. Everything went well, minimal pain - the discomfort from the gas was worse than any of the incision pain and all you can do is walk walk walk! I wasn't getting enough liquids down once I got home so I went back to hospital Friday because I was becoming dehydrated. They kept me overnight on IV fluids and wanted to make sure I could keep enough fluids down on my own. Better to err on the side of caution. All good now! Back home yesterday, getting in my fluids gas pain mostly gone and incision sites just a little tender but it's not half as bad as I thought it would be. The toughest part is forcing myself to drink the liquids! What a crazy new world. Best of luck to everyone!!!! -

@@theotherfatgirl how do you feel!? You must be so excited!!!! I got insurance approval Monday so the surgery is officially a go for June 23! I'm on day 3 of the liquid diet [muscle milk shakes all day errryday] and it's honestly not as bad as I thought it would be. I am always craving salty so I had some low-sodium broth yesterday for a snack but other than that it's been fine. I'm constantly full and haven't had bad cravings. -

wooohooo! had my final insurance appt friday and I am scheduled for June 23. I start the 2 week liquid diet tomorrow which I know will be tough but I am just so excited that it is finally here! I had a mini food funeral this weekend, but was really good about portions and didn't binge so it was a nice sign that things are moving in a positive direction. -

I thought I was going to be able to get the 6 months backdated by my PCP but because they were not consecutive, I could not use them. I am so disappointed. My 25th birthday is in July and I was so hopeful that I could have the surgery done in March and be healthier by my birthday for the first time in my life. Now I most likely will not even have surgery till late june/ early july. I am so impatient! I am not allowed to lose weight due to insurance purposes, otherwise I will fall below 40 bmi and then no longer qualify for surgery. It is so frustrating to have to do the 6 months and not even be allowed to start losing weight! What are you all doing to take your mind off the wait period? I am going crazy!
