Ciao tutti! Hey y'all! Hola a todos! I was banded two days ago January 17, 2015) here in Mexico city where I will be until January 31st. I'm from NYC but have lived abroad several years. Im with the family I first stayed with 23 years ago to be well taken care of (again!) and made the best 'caldo de pollo' (chicken broth) on the planet! I'll head to Costa Rica for February to further recover and begin solid foods there with another family I met 3 years ago and we will eat healthy together as they want to support me and lose weight as well! I'm 5'8, weighed 235 pre-surgery.
I read the Big book of Lap Band surgery on my kindle leading up to the surgery where I again came across this resource. I had done research before my trip and found it on line as well. I'm still healing but I had a super nice surgeon here in a fancy new hospital in Coyoacan. I'll report back with the results as the days pass. So far so good! I have a friend on year 3 of the band whose story is similar to mine- struggle with weight all our lives but never having BMI over 35 and always athletic. She is a size 4 now going on a year and hasn't had an adjustment in over a year. She inspired me to look into this as a possibility for me. I want to run and jump and play with my nieces without injury or pain. I already ride my bike everywhere in NYC and am very active but decided to do this because my being overweight is keeping me from being more active and participating as much as I'd like to and just bad for my joints and overall health and in relationship. I need to learn how to eat for the rest of my life! I'm just 44 and this is MY year for ME!! Yay!!
