Only losing 1lbs a day
geekguy replied to nikki1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that it would be quite beneficial to the flow of the board if everyone made a point to remember that we are here to lift each other up as we all go through the same journey. I realize some of you may not want to hear this, but there is no "right" way to do this. Each person's success will be different.. each person's body will respond differently. What worked for you may not work for someone else. Even our doctors don't agree on diet, exercise, etc... So before we slam down our "fist of absolute truth," let's try to remember that we are all on this journey together, and lift one another up. -

Full liquids 5 days post op
geekguy replied to Lrckey0610's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that honestly, it's trial and error. I scrambled an egg on day 5 and it's been no issue for me to keep advancing. Just listen to what your sleeve is telling you and all will be good. -
How do you manage stomach acid and heartburn?
geekguy replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor mandates six months of prilosec. When I forget to take it, trust me, I know about it. I'd recommend something like that combined with hot liquids to push the goo through. -
Headache is still with me. Hospital today

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Hit the Starbucks and hit it hard. I know caffeine can make us hungry, but it can also contract those blood vessels in your head causing the headaches. See if you can tolerate some hardcore coffee/espresso (or no doze) and see if it helps. When you're over the headaches, back off the caffeine and resume normal bariatric diet. We used to put our migraine patients on caffeine drips in the ER. Please everyone don't kill me for suggesting something outside the program, but I think this might help. -
Only losing 1lbs a day
geekguy replied to nikki1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think so many of us get in our own head about what the "normal weight loss" should be because we've all failed so many times. It's definitely a marathon, not a sprint, and if we follow the program, we will get there! It's totally fine to have this anxiety nikki. That being said, I'm also a member of the "weigh yourself everyday" club and it is frustrating. I have finally resolved that I will only count my Thursday weigh-ins officially to help me keep track of the actual progress I'm making. So officially, I'm 2 weeks out and have lost 15 pounds, although that number is actually a little lower. Try to think in terms of, "this week I lost X pounds," and that will help you to not feel as discouraged. A pound a day is great! The weight is coming off and you're going to feel so much better in a few months! Big hugs! -

I know you guys will laugh at me but...
geekguy replied to deanma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's exactly what is going on! I would advise adding Gas X first thing in the morning. I pop a couple of chewables and that really helps. Hopefully once the weight comes off, you can drop that durn machine. -
Surg Date Scheduled! Need Input!

Gas X...Gas X...Gas X... did I mention Gas X? Also, don't buy as much broth as you think you need.. I did not crack it open once. ProtiDiet Hot Cocoa is your friend. Make sure to have some insulated mugs, as everything gets cold and gross by the time you get to the end of it. Hot tea is also a good liquid source. The first few days suck, but by the end of the first week, you're feeling really good. -
So ready for this cold weather to be over! Time for more activity and showing off this new body!

Not quite 2 weeks post-op and stalled?!
geekguy replied to kndoster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
To reiterate, this is totally normal. At my 1 week post op, they told us to expect our amazing losses to come to a screeching halt as our bodies adapted to the changes going on. They said we might lose no weight for the next two weeks and then it would pick back up again. Just keep doing what you're doing and good things will happen! -
When Does the Discomfort Stop
geekguy replied to livingstone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there. I am 2 weeks out and sleeping comfortably, but I would say that I am taking 500mg Tylenol gelcaps twice a day to help with soreness. I take it first thing in the morning and right before bed. Also, and I am still testing this out, I am thinking that more movement is helping the soreness work itself out. I work at a desk, and it feels like my stitches are trying to tighten up, so I am going to work on increasing my workouts more (an hour on the treadmill) bc that really seemed to do the trick and stretch them back out. Otherwise, I find myself starting to really have bad posture and slump over. This whole thing is highly individualized and a lot of trial and error, but that's what I've found out thus far. Hope this find you well. -
Agree, at my nutritionist we are actually told that we should be tolerating 3oz by 1 month, and then working our way up to our final goal of 6oz by month 3-6 (just however long it takes). Mine does treat the bypass and sleeve patients very similarly, but the 20 mins of chewing thing - that had to be a brain fart - you should chew 20 times, or for us people with some sense, until you feel like you have a very fine puree in your mouth. Take it all with a major grain of salt and know that YOU are in control of your diet and your outcome, and listen to your body. I just hit 2 week post-op, and thus far, the only troubles I've had are the times I wasn't paying attention to what my body was trying to tell me. Hope this finds you well!

Weight training reducing the effects of loose skin....
geekguy replied to 6GP2008's topic in The Guys’ Room
This is definitely something that I'm concerned about as well as I lose weight. I'm down from a high of 408, hoping to get to about 250. I would love to avoid the skin surgery if at all possible. -

HELP! PROTRIN SHAKES NAUSEATE ME
geekguy replied to GEAUX SAINTS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cody's Mom, I'm glad to hear that you were able to advance so quickly. I'm beginning to think that I'm going to be advancing sooner rather than later, b/c I'm not having any nausea, issues, etc., and basically just don't want to have the runs. The only thing I'm noticing is that I am full for a LONG TIME after eating, but I guess that's the point, huh? The egg I ate 3 hours ago is still feeling pretty damn big in my stomach right now, but it's going down without issue, so I guess that's a good thing, huh?
