Will I be able to eat "Normal" again?
dianegoe replied to dianegoe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you! I have calmed down knowing there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I see the Dr. on Wednesday and I am praying he will let me eat oatmeal or Malto-Meal. I am not craving sweets, but my body wants real food that is warm. This is NOT easy, it is very HARD. If anyone says it's the easy way out they don't know what they are talking about. I will drink my Muscle Milk and know it's almost Sunday. Then I only have 4 days left! Thanks for your support. I could not do this without all of you. Diane:redface: -
I was banded on 1/15/08 and have been on liquids for 5 days now. I started drinking Muscle Milk which has 20g of protein. I cannot wait to have oatmeal, or split pea soup. No wonder the band works. You have to starve after you have it placed. If only we could have starved ourselves without the band, we could have saved a whole lot of money. I saw a show on 20/20 last night about the 45 yr old woman with anorexia. I told my husband all I can think about is food, and chewing, so I don't get how people can starve themselves on purpose. I cannot wait until I see the Dr. On Wednesday. I am praying he lets me go on mushies, or soup or oatmeal, any thing but muscle milk and jello:eek:Diane

It will get better Saleel. I was banded on Tuesday, never needed pain meds, and I worked half the day today. I was so hungry I stopped at my surgeons office to beg them to let me have soup. They said I could start on protein shakes, so I just had Muscle Milk. I am so wanting something hot like soup or oatmeal and the broth doesn't cut it. Anyone who says this is the easy way out has no clue what we are putting our selves through just to loose weight. We are amazing. Hang in there. I keep telling myself it's just a couple of weeks out of the rest of our lives. We will get past this and beyond. Hope you feel better soon. Diane

Good luck to you Gilliebean, it will get better everyday. I'm glad you did ok. Diane

Well I feel Like I am starving. I have been drinking water and protein in 3oz tubes, and my stomach is rumbling so much. I wish I could just put some cream soup or oatmeal in there. This is really hard. Nothing until I see the Dr. next Wednesday. I am working tomorrow. Maybe it will help take my mind off of it. The incisions are not that bad. My hunger is awful. Good luck to all of us. Diane:frown:

OK Guys..I'm home..It was not bad..don't be scared!

Hi guys. Here's my story. I went to hospital at 6, had all the usual stuff, IV, blood draw. Saw the Doc's (Band, OB/GYN, Anesthesia) I had my ovaries removed too. They took me back about 7:30. Got the versed prior to going to OR so I don't remember anything. Was waking up in recovery at 10:30. The nurse was asking if I had any pain, and I really didn't but she gave me a little meds in the IV. So maybe I'm well drugged, but the was over 4 hours ago. Left hospital at 11:30 and home by 12. I layed on the couch for about 2 hours to let anesthesia wear off. I just went for a 20 minute walk. I drank my protein and I'm sipping water. Can't say I have any pain. Minor gas under diaphragm. Small incisions and one larger one. So, please to those who go next, don't be afraid. It's not bad. Maybe tomorrow will be, but for now I am happy it's over, I'm not in any pain, and I'm on my way. When they weighted me this morning and I was 217 with shoes on and I thought, I hope I never see that again. Good luck to you guys going the rest of this week. It will be OK. Don't be scared. Diane:smile: -

Hi everyone, I still feel like I did sit-ups, muscle soreness, but not really pain. I have not taken any meds since I came home yesterday. Have been drinking fluids and that protein stuff. I had some broth last night. Water is going down fine. I really wish I could have something like oatmeal, but I can't. So, I am planning on going to work on Friday. I have my post visit next Wednesday and hopefully he will let me start on Mushies, or protein shakes. I will keep you posted. Good luck to everyone this week. Diane -
Prayer said. Good Luck. Tell us how you did. I'm right behind ya. Diane

I'm being banded tomorrow. No pre-op diet. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I have to do clear liquids for a week. Good luck to you and the rest of us tomorrow. Diane My surgery is 7:30 am -
Hi Redtulips3, I'm glad you are OK, I was worried about you. I'm ready, nervous, but ready to be on the other side. Will keep you posted. Diane

Hi Redtulip3, I was worried about you. I am glad you posted and that you are doing better. You had been posting so much and then nothing a few days. I asked about you. I'm glad you did well. I look forward to hearing how you are doing. Diane:biggrin: -
Hi Greeneyez, I know Dr. Burpee is kindda funny for a GI doc. Don't worry about loose skin. If you have to have cosmetic surgery that means you lost all the weight you want to loose. I think because it's getting so close for us, we are just getting nervous. It is a life time committment, but I keep telling myself it will become a way of life and we won't even notice it after we live with it for awhile. I hope! Diane

:huggie:My doctor wrote me an RX for something called Emend that I have to take tomorrow night before surgery on Tuesday. He said it helps to prevent nausea and is used for cancer treatments. Also, tell the anesthesiologist before they put you to sleep and they usually give you Zofran in your IV for nausea. I don't think throwing up with an empty stitched up banded stomach sounds too fun. Good luck to those of us going this week and after. And speedy recovery and weight loss to those that have gone before. Diane

I'm being banded on the 15th. Nervous right now. I will be a buddy if you'd like. Diane

Now I'm getting nervous. I don't have a pre-op diet to follow, but when I'm nervous or upset I don't eat. I keep thinking what if this doesn't work? I am having surgery to loose weight, and what if it doesn't work. My Mother died of breast cancer at 49 years old, and she was still over weight at the time of her death. So what if, I am just supposed to be big. I weighed 150 all thru high school. I60's in my 20's, 170-180's in my 30's and now I've been 216 for the past 8 yrs. I will feel so stupid to go thru this and still be the same next year. Sorry for the downer posting. I need to vent and here seems a good place to. I hope we all do well next week. My husband said well maybe I'll do liquids with you next week. And I said then how about you do the surgery, and I loose weight. Please everyone, lets keep each other posted and supported in the coming months. Diane:eek:

Thanks Amber, I might try that one for awhile. Have you heard from Redtulips3? She had surgery last week I think. She was posting alot and now, nothing. I hope she is OK. I hope we all do OK. Thanks again, Diane

I wish it was next week-end for me, and I was on the other side of the surgery. Good luck to you who went this week. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Yikes! I am sorry you had such trouble. My Doc did a EGD exam last month to check for hernia prior to doing the lapband surgery. Also, to be scheduled for 12 and not be taken back until 4 is awful. Talk about high anxiety. I am glad you are OK, and home now. Keep us posted.

Thanks for all the encouraging words. I just hope by eating smaller portions I will loose, because I'm not too much of a snacker. Hopefully with the band, exercise and all the support I get from everyone here, it will work. I know I have to make it work. But I really want it to. It's something that I have struggled with all my life. I want to feel I finally have control over my weight, because if I don't, than who does? You are all so helpful and I know I will be asking lots more questions after I have the surgery next week. Thanks, Diane -
Thanks Jim. I guess I'll see I how feel on Wednesday and go from there. Has anyone heard how Redtulips3 is doing? She was posting alot and has not posted since the day before her surgery. I hope she is OK. Has anyone heard from her? I worry about all of us. I'm the Mom, its what I do.Diane

Hi, I am being banded next Tuesday and am so thankful for this site and all of you. I have been on here since November and have gained so much information form you guys. I am so scared this won't work. I know I am fat, but I don't think I eat badly. I don't eat all day, don't eat fast foods, don't drink my calories. I don't exercise alot, but I am on my feet at work, not a desk job. I am so afraid I will do this and still be fat. I tell the people I work with that is my biggest fear. Not the surgery, the failure if it doesn't work. I asked my Dr. at my pre op this week if he thinks this will work, and he said, "do you think it will work?" Did you guys fear failure before your surgery? I have been about 216 for years. I gain a few pounds, and loose a few. But nothing I seem to do makes much difference. I have gone to personal trainer 3x week before for 3 months. No weight change. So I think, why do it if it doesn't change anything. I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. Diane -
Hi Jim, I am watching your progress too, because I am 52 and going to be banded next week. My surgery is Tuesday, and I'm planning to go to work on Friday for 1/2 day. I'm a Nurse Practitioner. Do you think I'm being unrealistic? Are you in alot of pain when you move around when you are walking? I don't know if I should just stay out until the following week. I have to be on clear liguids for a week, but I don't have a pre op diet. I wish I was on the other side already. Thanks for your daily progress reports. They are really helping me. Diane

Good luck to you guys going tomorrow. Keep us informed on how you did.

I'm on the 15th also. I'm planning on going home the same day. I don't have a pre-op diet to follow. I had my pre-op visit this past Monday. I am also having my ovaries removed at the same time. Good luck to All of us. Diane
