Funny/interesting comment related to eating while on a date
lexiemustang replied to gowalking's topic in Singles Forum
Sometimes I wish it was a simple as boredom or stress. That's easier to fix than this thing I'm dealing with. This is one of my biggest issues while dating. Not actively dating at the moment, but I know I'm going to have to tackle this once I venture back out into the wonderful world of dating. -
Am I the only one who thought the movie was horrid? Someone described it as "two awkward people having sex" - I concur totally. When I'm on my "bariatric work break" (i.e. post op) I'm going to read the books because I heard they were much better.

So I've decided to do this - Insurance willing...

Thank you Xine. I think I'm going to start a journal - that is EXCELLENT advice. Complete with gel pens and stickers - I'm a kid at heart. Small update - I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea as of last week. This process is moving very quickly; my meeting with the Nutritionist and my Cardio test is tomorrow. I am actually going for the sleeve instead of the lap band...both my PCP and my bariatric surgeon thought it would be a better fit for me. -

lexiemustang posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone - my name is Lexie and I've recently made the decision to have surgery. I've struggled with my weight all of my life and I feel like I need a helping hand to maintain. So I've been doing a bit of research and I know that generally you have to prove that you have struggled with your weight. Luckily for me, I'm a bit of a packrat - so I've got medical records back to 2004 which document my weight! I've fluctuated anywhere from 282 to 227 since 2004. I also have a few comorbidities - such as high blood pressure, joint pain, acid reflux, possibly sleep apnea (going to see if insurance recommends a sleep study) - and on top of all of that, I also suffer from hypothyroidism and depression. So the kicker, I've put on 20 pounds since March of last year - but to make it EVEN BETTER - I ran a half marathon last April! Who does that? Oh yeah, me. Luckily for me, I have very good insurance through my employer (United Insurance and an awesome package). So far, I know my insurance covers the surgery, but we'll see if they give me a hard way to go about it. I have my first consult with the surgeon next week. Wish me luck! I have not told a lot of people for fear of judgement. You would think since I've been running for the last 6 years, this would prove my efforts to try, but I know there are people that think surgery is the "easy way out". I have told 3 of my friends - 2 of them are supportive (they know how much I've struggled with my weight and how much I've really tried through diet and exercise to "do the right thing") - the other friend (who is also a lap bander) is trying to talk me out of it, for she feels I'm not "big enough". I am starting to regret telling her because I am starting to feel like she's judging me. According to BMI charts I am obese - BMI is 36.9 and I have comorbidities - and I've struggled with weight issues all of my adult life. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens...I'm so glad a friend told me about this forum! -
Sleep Study - What to expect
lexiemustang replied to Hoven's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess different people have different experiences. I've had two - one without a CPAP and my second one (just yesterday) with a CPAP. I did not enjoy either one. Between all the wires, my mind being "busy" knowing someone's watching me, and the fact that they make you sleep on your back (I'm a stomach sleeper) - I did not sleep well at all. The air from the CPAP machine didn't bother me (I actually kind of liked it), but the mask itself bothered my face and I had a red ring around my nose afterward. On the bright side (I guess) - I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea so it's definitely going to help my case. Good luck! -
What Does Valentine’s Day Mean to You?
lexiemustang replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So I feel kind of bad. I just told a friend that "I'm not really thinking about Valentine's day because I'm too focused on other things". Nothing could be further from the truth. In 38 years, I only remember 2 occasions where I was special enough for someone to call me their "Valentine". I am somewhat dating a dude now, and it would make all the difference in the world to me if he would acknowledge me on Valentine's day, or get me a gift (no matter how small). It would make me extremely happy that someone of the opposite sex wanted to be my Valentine. (not that it matters, but I'm pre op. No kids or husband if that puts it into perspective for anyone). -
Worst "compliment" you have gotten since surgery
lexiemustang replied to Lacowgirl72's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
"I don't keep toxic people in my life who think they are "keeping it real" by being rude." I totally agree. I think there is a segment of the population who use "keeping it real" as an excuse to be rude, mean, bi***y a**holes. There is a way that you can tell someone things that aren't so nice without being mean spirited and hurting the other person's feelings. Yes, this is a soapbox for me. /end rant -
My attitude sucks right now - sorry - but I'm at a point in life where I feel a like a good number of people are mean judgemental hypocrites. And I'm not even going to get started on facebook, but I digress... What I've noticed is that with each time I lose weight - it becomes harder and harder for me to keep the weight off. First time - cut out sweets/fried foods Second time - cut out sweets/fried foods/white flour Third time - cut out sweets, fried foods, white flour, add 30 mins exercise Fourth time - cut out sweets, fried foods, white flour, processed foods, 30 mins exercise Fifth time - cut out sweets, fried foods, , white flour, processed foods, 1 hour exercise, + 30 mins running And so on and so on. I know this is a lifetime battle...but it's becoming more and more difficult with each time I lose and regain. Meanwhile there are people like my brother who do nothing but eat junk and gain no weight. (Yes I'm being a hater right now).

My mother told everyone about my surgery!
lexiemustang replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is EXACTLY why I haven't told my mom. The last time I told her not to talk about something to others, she did it anyway. I love my mom dearly but I'm now realizing one of her weaknesses is keeping her big frigging mouth shut... -

Why did you choose Gastric Sleeve?
lexiemustang replied to JustBeth13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This! I spoke to my PCP about having surgery - and she recommended the sleeve over the band and bypass. When I spoke to my bariatric surgeon, she also recommended the sleeve over other options. I was initially considering the band, but my bariatric surgeon stated that she's having to do more revisions and seeing more complications with the band than with any of the other surgeries. So sleeve it is. -

Getting closer and having doubts
lexiemustang replied to skc72's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I know the feeling. I just started this process about two weeks ago and it's moving very quickly. I have my meeting with the NUT and a cardio test on 2/12. After that it's the EGD then submission for approval, which means I could be having surgery probably as early as march. I'm scared too and a part of me is wondering if that's enough time to "get my mind right". Hang in there though - I'm in it with you! -
Dallas here. Just started this process so no surgery date yet. Process is moving very quickly though!
