  1. I have a coworker who keeps giving me diet recommendations. I "should be" eating this and I "shouldn't be" eating that. She knows that I have had surgery, and I keep reminding her that I'm on a "special diet" with a reduced stomach, so the "recommended" way of eating (half a plate of veggies and a very small portion of protein) isn't going to work because my focus is Protein first - whether it be via Protein shakes or lean meat (she's also vegetarian). She doesn't agree with protein shakes and meat as protein sources, because she says "I should be getting them naturally via veggies/beans." I am tired of explaining this to her, LOL. My other pet peeve - my family keeps telling me that I'm getting too small and that I don't need to lose any more weight. Even though I'm tall - I'm still a size 12. Far from skinny IMO.

  3. If you want to get rid of your stomach, just do situps/crunches (or exercise in general). Gee thanks, I've never thought of that!!!
  4. So I'm a year out from my surgery, and last night I was thinking about the things no one told me I would experience post op. Here's my list: Sensitive tummy! I used to have a cast Iron stomach preop. I could eat ANYTHING and not get sick. I'm talking about food left out for a day or two, weird combinations of food, anything. NOW - my stomach is very sensitive and temperamental. I can eat something one day and be fine, and eat it the next day and it will send me straight to the bathroom. Tummy issues 2 - Before surgery, I used to be able to "hold" my poo (sorry if TMI) if I was in an inconvenient place (like work or the mall) until I got home. Not anymore. When I gotta go, I gotta go! And I cramp when I have to go. Drinking Water is a CHORE. I didn't realize how much of a chore drinking water would be - especially with the "no eating and drinking at the same time" rule. Presurgery I could drink 64 oz of water a day easily. Now, not so much. Deep down I thought being "skinny" would fix a majority of my issues. NOPE! My butt hurts constantly from sitting on things! I guess since some of the padding is gone, LOL. My refrigerator is a constant churn of leftovers. I am having trouble making peace with throwing away leftovers but I have to constantly. I don't get nervous about having physicals at the doctor anymore. If I eat the wrong thing late at night (there's one Protein bar in particular) it gives me indigestion really bad. What are some of the things that no one told you that you're experiencing post op?
  5. THIS ONE. I have a bariatric card from my surgeon requesting that I be able to order half portions. I wasn't using it at first, but I've started using it a lot in the last few months. Kids meals = hot dogs, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets. No thanks!
  6. I have to have flavored Water too. Don't really care too much for plain water post op. Loved it preop! Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App
  7. Absolutely not! Wish I would have done it sooner. Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App
  8. Dr Holden (one of Dr Kim's partners)did my surgery. My surgery was around noon and I was discharged around 10:30pm that night. No complications at all.
  9. It's driving me nuts too and I'm 10 months out!!! Ugh!

    Green Tea Tastes Like Feet

Plain green tea tastes like feet LOL!!! My thoughts were boiled lawn clippings.
  11. The biggest part of this whole thing is MENTAL. There are so many mental challenges you'll deal with post op - and surgery will not fix mental. I knew these things before surgery, but I didn't KNOW them.

    Drinking with meal?

Initially I was informed not to drink 30 minutes prior to eating. My NUT and I discussed it 3 months out, and she modified the rule, so now she has given the ok to drink up until it is time to eat. I've heard the greater concern is drinking AFTER eating.

    No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

juice. To this day juice (and things made with juice, like fruit snacks) are a weakness. OMG. And this isn't a specific food, but my family are members of the clean plate club. That's a demon i'm battling post op - learning how to throw away those last two bites.

    Quest chips?

I bought a couple of bags of them and wasn't a fan. They have the "crunch" of a chip, but they don't taste like chips. I can definitely taste the whey...ugh.

    Low BMI Pre-op nerves

I was fairly low BMI when I started this whole process (37ish). This is one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. My recovery went really well and I didn't have any issues at all. By day 3 post op, I was off all pain meds and walking 2 - 3 miles in the evening. I'm almost 5 months post op now and am down almost 50 pounds. I feel so much better physically (joint/back pain gone, decrease in my blood pressure medication dosage, and lighter periods), not to mention the fact that I am looking better overall. I, like you, battled with my weight all of my life. I am hoping this is the "last time" and this time the weight REALLY stays off for good. On the preop diet, I lost 13 pounds and started to have second thoughts about going through with the surgery. I am really glad I went through with it. Good luck with whatever you decide!

When you are too big to manage your period...

Question - were you on the pill and had to stop taking it because your surgery is coming up? I had the same issue during my preop diet and found out my hormones were all over the place because I had to stop taking the pill. Lets just say my period that month was the longest, most embarrassing two weeks of my life. Since I've dropped the weight, my period has become much more manageable. I'm sure losing weight has had something to do with it.

    Leftovers

Thanks for sharing! I'm trying (and struggling) to get used to eating leftovers. I've never been a big fan of them but post op I am learning how to eat them, because my refrigerator stays full of leftovers, LOL.
