Hi everyone -
My name is Diana and my surgery was 11/24/14. I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery for health reasons - diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea were the main reasons. Having no energy and not ever feeling refreshed after sleeping were a couple of the minor reasons. Knowing that, as I get older, I have only myself to take care of me was another big reason.
I started at a bit more than 250 lbs, was 245 lbs on surgery day, and weighed in at 226 lbs on 12/29/14 which was my most recent appointment. I hesitate to use the numbers on my scale because they are quite different than the doctor's scale. However, on my scale today, I weighed 217 lbs.
I'm on the "fork tender foods" portion of the diet now. But I still drink 1 or 2 Protein shakes a day to get in my protein. I'm sort of afraid to eat. My biggest problem has always been that I like the taste of good food, and being from New Orleans, good food can be found EVERYWHERE! Most days I'm not really hungry, I just miss the taste of food - meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn, fried catfish, potato salad, etc., etc.
I'm trying to find some quick, easy, good tasting recipes for chicken and fish that I can start eating. When I do eat, I don't seem to have an issue as far as how much to eat. I can probably eat a total of about 1/2-3/4 of a cup of food total. I'm satisfied and feel fairly full.
I do, from time to time, crave something sweet. Previously, I loved to eat ice cream. Not every day, but it was one of my weaknesses. I've discovered Cool Whip lite which I eat frozen along with a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate syrup. A couple of tablespoons does the trick.
I'm looking forward to reading the stories of other "gastric sleevers".
