11 weeks out and on a Norweigan cruise....

John M, GREAT POST! Thank you for posting. I'm going in for my surgery May 18th and we've actually got an 8 day camping beach trip planned 5-1/2 weeks after, which I'm prepared for taking my blender and sticking to my diet. We also love to cruise, try to do at least 1/2 a year. Your story gave me inspiration to know that I can do this and succeed!! Glad you had a great time. Good luck and Thank you again for your post. Brenda R.

    May Sleevers...where are you?

Hello Dream125, I also have a sleeve surgery date of May 18th. Where are you located? We will have to stay in touch so we can encourage each other.
  9. My only insight is this. If you aren't going to listen to the doctor/surgeon then why go to one? It's like when people go to the doctor they are given antibiotics and after 3 days they feel better so they stop taking the meds to save for later, only they don't realize that the infection is still not completely cured. Doctors give you instructions for a reason. Like I said I don't understand why go to a doctor if you don't trust them to know what's best for you under their care. Sorry had to rant alittle

Hello, I'm scheduled Tuesday May 5th for pre registration, assessment, and a nutrition class, then I go see my surgeon May 15th prior to my surgery May 18th. I'm in SC, I'm very nervous, scared, excited, and just ready to get this show on the road. I haven't had to do any pre op dieting thus far, not sure what will happen when I go next Tuesday, but I will surely let everyone know. Good luck everyone, and let's all support each other on this new journey.

    Surgery Date May 18th

I just got the call today. My surgery date is May 18th, which is 2 days before my Birthday. I'm nervous, anxious, scared, excited, and thrilled to begin this journey. My surgeon is Dr. Solon Hughes, at Riverside Surgical, in South Carolina, everyone there is so very nice My paperwork was just finalized on Monday and they said they'd send it for approval, so I figured it'd be a week or two before they scheduled my surgery, but approval was made early this morning, that was quick. I have my hospital appointment, a class, and a few more things to do the first week of May then my last appointment with the surgeon on May 15th then come Monday, May 18th I'll be starting the next chapter/journey in my already blessed life. Not sure how many days I'll be in hospital as my insurance has no stipulation on that. I have so many questions to ask, how hard is recovery really? Is pain really bad? Is learning to eat slow very difficult? How much weight could I possibly lose the first week? I know silly aren't I??? Anyone have any advise?? Or thoughts??? Or words of encouragement??? Thanks in advance, blrobertson

    Minnesota Medicare & Gastric Sleeve

It shouldn't matter what state you live in since Medicare is Federally funded. Medicaid is state funded . Through out this process thus far every doctor my surgeon sends me to knows exactly what Medicare approves, etc. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

    Anyone in SC?

Hi mrsbib, I'm from Lexington. I'm going to Riverside also, my first appt. is with Dr Hughes next week. How long does it take after you go for your initial visit? How are you doing thus far? Anything you'd like to share would be greatly appreciated
  16. Hello, new to site, have my 1st appt. with the surgeon, nutritionist, financial dept, etc., next week. Question, I'm on Medicare, what are requirements & out of pocket? Also, after initial visit how long until you get date for surgery? I have been struggling with weight for years, my primary physician is for the surgery, I've gone to a nutritionist for 6 months and lost about 15#, then went thru Physicians Weight loss for 6 months lost 34# and have gained all but 2# back. I have several medical conditions that should get better with the surgery, arthritis in every major joint, scoliosis of lower back, high cholesterol , high blood pressure, and acid reflux. I have questions about liquid diet before operation and then liquid diet after operation, as well as how hard it is to adapt to your new stomach, such as throwing up/bowel problems when you eat wrong. Sorry if I'm jumping from one subject to the next just my mind is racing with so many questions. Any insight will be helpful.
