Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I have been out of touch for a couple of months, several reasons, but it's good to be back and seeing new friends among the familiar ones.

    Hair loss!!

At my support group last week, the general consensus was that it's caused by the shock to your system after such a dramatic lifestyle change.

    Non-Scale Victory

PhotoEgor has been doing most of the posting from our house lately, but I want to SHOUT! Saturday, 6-7-08, THE TWO OF US WALKED the 5K Race for the Cure. We strolled along about 3mph, and did the 9000 steps in just over an hour. We are both very sedentary, usually, but this year we came home from the race, showered and dressed, then went out for lunch, a pedicure, and about four hours of shopping. He is down one shirt and two pant waist sizes since May 14, and I've slowly gone from a 22 at Thanksgiving to a 14W/16misses now. (We're 51.)
  7. Happy to be your friend!

  8. My primary care doc assumed that I'd be having regular blood tests as part of my follow-up. I've seen the surgeon once and had two fills since banding 4-09-08, but no one has mentioned doing any labs. Is this usual?

    1st Fill

I think I have my first fill at lunchtime tomorrow. I have a follow-up visit at Dr. Marsden's Argyle office, and I just realized that I forgot to ask any questions ahead of time! Since it's been a month since I got banded, will I automatically get a fill at this appointment, or will I have to have a separate one later? Should I eat breakfast or lunch since the appointment is at 1:30? What if I haven't lost any weight? I think I'm retaining water. What should I wear? (Pants or skirt waistbands sit right on my port.) Will I have any trouble driving about 30 miles back to Plano? Advice please.

    Spousal Support

No, not THAT kind! My LapBand surgery is less than 6 hours away. :scared2: I almost didn't wake up after my hysterectomy 10 years ago, so PhotoEgor is WAY nervous about my operation today, and he's driving me to the hospital  Please pray or do whatever it is you do: send us "good vibes," or whatever. We'll take any help we can get!

    Spousal Support

I was feeling well enough to go have my hair done this afternoon, but then I came home, fell asleep in my chair, and messed up the whole back of my head! Back to baby steps for me...

    Spousal Support

He's back to his usual self: very helpful, but somewhat clueless. He made me a 16oz mug of broth, brought me a 44 oz slush, etc. I just thank him and take my few sips of each thing he fixes!

After surgery check in for Avengers!

Surgery Wednesday. Scheduled 10:30, but Dr. and OR were overbooked, so actually happened about 2:30. I was STARVING!, but that improved after Nurse Jan started the IV... on the first try. (Yay Nurse Jan!) A little pain and nausea while sitting in recovery, but the meds fixed that. After the barium swallow, I could have gone home, but I had to wait for the poor nurse, who was SWAMPED. Finally started home in the rain about 6:30. Made it safely, and George the Cat appointed himself my new nurse. He stays right with me. I was very bloated Thursday, but the winds broke that night. I blew out a hemorrhoid, which hurts worse than the surgery sites. I'm on clear liquids for a week, then full for a week, then mushy, etc. Basically broth and popsicles right now. I'm down 25 pounds since starting this journey last October.

All went well. 9.5 hours at the hospital, storms on the way home, and an insane cat who thinks he's my nurse. Daughters babysat me and took me walking around neighborhood the past 2 days. Egor took me out for "Chinese food" for our date night yesterday. I had a cup of won ton soup with no won-tons or onions. Naps tend to sneak up on me, though!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thanks for the prayers, all. We survivved, thank the Lord! Surgery scheduled for 10:30 finally happened about 2:30. Then the recovery room was short handed, so I was there until about 6:30 before I could go home. Storms hit, and it rained all of the hour and a half trip home. We crashed into bed almost immediately, and Egor slept like a rock. George the cat played nurse all night, escorting me to the bathroom 3 times, reminding me to drink water, and patting me when I got back to bed. He's been on duty ever since I came home, even while my daughters or Egor are with me. I've had some port incision pain, but my hemorrhoids are worse than that. I've been for a couple of neighborhood strolls, and last night we went out for Chinese food. I had a cup of won ton soup and gave Egor the won tons. Also, I weigh 8 pounds less now than when I checked in at the hospital! Overall, Life is Great.

After surgery check in for Avengers!

Only month later than I expected, my surgery is now about 5 hours away. :scared2: If you pray, please include PhotoEgor and me. He's WAY more nervous about this than I am, and he's driving me to the hospital

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

It's finally here! After a couple of "bumps in the road," my surgery is less than 6 hours away. :scared2: This is to ask all y'all who pray to add me to your list, and especially pray for PhotoEgor. He's WAY more nervous about this than I am, and he's driving me to the hospital  Also, to our atheist , agnostic, etc. friends, please do whatever it is you do: send us "good vibes," or whatever. We'll take any help we can get!

    I am not alone...Am I?

DH and I are waiting and working for approval to be banded in March. Anyone else?:ranger:
  19. Almost sounds like Egor and me, except we met at 16 and have been married 32 years! For a long time, he weighed 100lb. more than I did, but I started gaining faster after my hysterectomy. He's about 75lb more today, but he's waiting for surgery a month later than mine.

    I am not alone...Am I?

I had to reschedule my stress test, so I'm waiting at least until after I complete that Friday afternoon. I'm on the 2 meals/2 shakes program for now.

    Please Anyone Help

Where was he banded? What was his BMI? Did he go through the 2 weeks of liquids to reduce his liver before surgery? How long after the initial banding did he become ill? Is your insurance helping with all of this? Are you able to take care of him, or is he still requiring medical supervision? What is the situation with his job? With your job? Do you have kids at home? Sorry to seem so nosy, but if you can provide this information, we should be able to get help for you.

    I am not alone...Am I?

Wow! I hope mine goes as smoothly, Scrappy Friend. I have my final appointments with the exercise physiologist, PA, and dietician, as well as my stress test, blood labs, and psych evaluation TOMORROW! Everybody. please send out a prayer and/or cross your fingers for me.
  23. I have no idea who this strange bald man is, why he's saying these things, nor why he claims to be connected to me in any way! On the other hand, he does look an awful lot like all four of my children:angel_smile:

    I am not alone...Am I?

Count me in too! (for the exercise)

    I am not alone...Am I?

I'm with you! I've been eating like crazy and actually gained weight when I saw the dietician this week! :frown: I've re-started walking, so you could say I'm MARCHing into Feb.
