The fish oil is supposed to be good for your heart. I can't see that changing. Let the Dr know that you are taking them and any other over the counter meds. He had me stop them before the surgery, that and the aspirin. After the surgery I crushed my pills except the fish oil I had to wait a few weeks to take that again. I like have heart protection so I'll prob keep that vitamin.

I was so scared when I went to get my fill. I was FRANTIC!! Serious. I was crying on the way to the Drs. Oh what have I done? I kept remembering how big the needle was and it made me worse. I still drove to the Drs though. If I want this to work then I have to go. I got there talked to the Dietician, told her my fears, she agreed there is a big needle. thanks not much help. He came in and we talked. And I laid down for the NEEDLE. ok it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. There was a little pain, nothing like how I imagined it. I laid there and took deep breaths, and he got it the first try, no re-pokes. He did have to move around some, I'm only about the 11th patient with the band, that he's worked with. It was not as horrible as I thought. Seriously, I wont cry next time. ps I did take a shot of vicodin before I left. Maybe that helped? lol

odawa replied to karebare714's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my surgeon that if my incisions turned red or started to itch I was to call them immediately. It really couldnt hurt to give them a call. Good luck!!! My stitches had glue on them I was so surprised to be glued!!! -
No its the flu. I got the big D also. yes diarrhea. How does one get Diarrhea when one is not eating? I'll be alright, I got some liquid Imodium. I just sorta was feeling sorry for myself. I'm sick, sore and by myself lol My mom got sick and had to go home early. I'm really doing better now. Just feel really weak and tired and its been officially 1 week since I chewed food. Well I knew what I was getting into. No big surprise just the stupid flu also. Thanks so much for responding. Look for the silver lining, I didnt get the shoulder pain so that is a blessing.

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
odawa replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"I was banded yesterday morning. I am getiing around good and no vomiting. I did have problems urinated after surgery, but they said thats common. Came home about 5 hours after surgery. My insurance doesn't cover the pain meds so I am in pain, but its tolerable. My mouth is staying real dry. All of this will be worth it in a few weeks I know. All in all, not too bad. Good luck to everyone else. Karen" Please contact your surgeon and ask for a different Med. Drs will gladly switch meds if the ins. will not pay, do not suffer, call and ask for something different. I worked in a pharmacy and we called the Drs all of the time. I didnt get Celebrex for pain I got liquid Vicodin. -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
odawa replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all!! I got home last nite, I'm having very little to any pain at all. Just sleeping and drinking liquids. I'm getting extra sympathy since yesterday was my birthday. hee hee. I even got flowers!!! I had a prob w/ the hospital bed, it was too short. I'm 5'11 and my feet were pressing on the bottom, I think that was the worst part of the whole stay.!!!! YAH!!! not bad at all. I'm trying to figure out when I feel hungry and full. It's a bit different. I do beleive I heard my stomach growl today. -
Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
odawa replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome thread!! I will not miss my CPAP machine!! I hate that thing. It has really cramped my sex life because I havent let anyone see me with it on and picnic tables. I'm always scared they will shift or creak when I sit down. Clothes that fit last time I wore them, not fitting today.GRRRR wanting another cookie when I know I shouldnt eat it. I cant wait to fit my daughters clothes. Hee hee I've been telling her hey I like that shirt, dont get it messed up, here I come!! lol -
Amazing. Well I'm going for the 100% + whatever else I can lose. This facility hasnt had alot of lapband yet & I'm gonna set the bar up high!! When they talk about how much can be lost, I wanna be the one that they talk about!! I dont know alot of thin people. I'm Native American and sad but true, we are fighting Diabetes and heart disease due to obesity. Its an epidemic in the Native Community. When we buy t-shirts we ask for Native size, that is 3x!!! Its the norm. The lifestyle change nowadays has really impacted us.

Hello all, I'm kinda puzzled. I'm a little over the 100 lb marker that is used to have the surgery. The Dr wants my goal weight to be 75 lbs. I guess I didnt understand why not go for the hundo? It seems if 100 is the benchmark then that would be the goal. Are other Drs doing the same thing or is this unusual?? I admit though I have to agree, I'm 5'10 and can't imagine being 155lbs. that is a bit too thin. I was just checking if this is normal. Thanks

Sleep Study - What should I take?
odawa replied to Froggi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took my pjs, change of clothes, makeup, shampoo and conditioner, soap, pillows, granola bar, brush, hair beautification stuff, took a movie but didnt use it, cellphone. no jewelry and NO watch. they didnt want me to know the time. Id, ins card. Ithink thats it. -
I would rather go for the hundred. Maybe he was just low balling it, so that I'm a huge success story??? lol could be. lol Why would I go through surgery and not go all of the way? I dont understand it at all. I guess the big thing is that I havent met anyone thats my height and 154lbs. Most of my friends are on the heavy side. I cant wait to lose all of this extra weight!! I'm so excited. I guess when I talk to him next I'm gonna tell him, I'm going for the hundo baby!

Sleep Study - What should I take?
odawa replied to Froggi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleep study story was sad. I was sound asleep ha! it was a sleep study I was tossing and turning when they woke me up. My daughter was going to have emergency appencitis surgery and wouldnt let the hosp do anything until I got there. The staff yanked those electrodes off of my head and I flew to ER. IE: raced down the street at 50MPG's. I had the crap in my head all day!!! Luckily I had a hat in the car. I wore that. Still no one in the waiting room talked to me all day. I bet I was pretty scary looking!!! I had to get rescheduled for the test, it took almost a month to get it rescheduled. My daughter felt horrible as she didnt go into surgery for over 6 hrs later. -
Yes I'll never forget. How approraite though, my birthday the day after my surgery, like a whole new beginning. And I'm getting a son, wow can it get any better?
-
I got my date October 6th!!! It is the day before my birthday. I'm hoping to have birthday luck lol My daughter is getting married October 3rd. Exciting times are ahead!!

Yes that is a concern. My Dr says he has done under 50 fills. So I expect he'll be digging around with that HUGE needle, that arent going to use a numbing agent. Yes I asked.
-
ok be honest. How bad does that big needle hurt? My doc showed it too me yesterday and I almost fainted just looking at it. I havent been banded yet, but its HUGE!!!!!

Any October Bandsters!??!?!

WOO HOO! I got my date!! October 6th. My birthday is October 7th, this will be my birthday present to myself!! -
Hello I'm part of the U of M program. I've been to 2 support meetings. I find that there is a push for the gastric bypass, maybe because there is never lapbanders at the meetings. Everything is geared for the bypass people. You do have to remember that during the discussions about how great the bypass is. Make your own decision, you have to live with the result. 2 support meetings are a requirement and I liked them. They were very informative. I really learned alot. I'm hoping to get my date soon. Just gotta get another test for an infection. I found out that I had an infection that I didnt know that I have. I'm glad that I'm an U of M patient and that they are very diligient. I hope that after my surgery that I remember to go to support meetings and help newbies.

Hello I've been reading the posts. Amazing things are going on!! I had my nutritional and medical eval yesterday. The Drs think I'm a good candidate for the lap band. I've studied everything, I know people that had the gastric bypass. I'm a bit nervous. Its a huge change. I hope it will be a good change. Currently I have diabetes and sleep apnea. I hate that CPAP machine. It's just awful. I havent told my mom that I'm having the surgery. I mentioned once to my brother that I was considering it and mom called that nite crying her eyes out. So I wasnt going to tell her. I think I will have too. My daughter says she will be too hurt if I don't and I can see that is true. I just dont want the extra guilt. I think this is a good choice for me, I need to get healthy and I cant do it alone. so the question is How do I tell mom? It looks like my surgery date will be in July 08 Woo Hoo!! So I have to tell her soon.
-
That is a great idea. I'll send her some flyers and pamphlets. I'll see if I can get some from the hospital.
-
yeh telling my bestest friend was hard too I was complaining about mom and her reaction and my friend started to say that I didnt need the surgery. So I told her all mom did was guarantee that she wont know when the surgery happens. My friend was sputtering, I told her my mind is made up and now she supports it. She may not agree but she supports it. Mom is totally different. I could understand if she were thin, mom is very heavy!!! She cant control her diet either. Its hereditary on my side of the fence. Maybe I wont tell her.
-
When I tried to talk to her last time, she wouldnt listen she had her mind made up and that was it. Now when I mention when I'm thinner, she says if she could stay with me 2 weeks I'd lose weight. right. and how long will that last. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and call her.
