Dr. says 40 is too young...help

I was sleeved at 44 and it was the best decision I ever made! I say get a second opinion!
  4. I am at goal now and I have to encourage all of you that it is fantastic to meet theses goals! I still marvel sometimes as I sit in church with my legs crossed or almost burst into tears when I slip into a size 10 anything! My deciding point was in the Spring of 2014 when I just could not handle walking around a park all day with my sons Boy Scout Troop...we were constantly on the move all day and it killed my legs, feet EVERYTHING! 7 months post surgery, I went Zip Lining with them and it was the most empowering moment in my life. I had avoided that trip the year before because of the weight limit, of course, and it was so awesome! Hang in there and you will be able to do all of those things you want to do.

    As of today?

Starting weight 8/1/14 300 lbs Surgery date 10/8/14. Current weight 173 lbs and very happy and healthy.
  6. I am not sure if I qualify as a veteran, sleeved in 10/2014 so about 18 months. I am at goal and maintaining. I always try to have on hand: -Hard Boiled Eggs - quick and easy to transport! -Turkey slices - I like a rolled slice with cheese -Cashews - big fan of the low sugar fudge bar too
  7. I do understand the fear factor, it is scary. You do have to push yourself past it and it does get better! Chew chew chew, drink slowly. I remember the days of trying to get ONE bottle of Water down was work - just one sip at a time. Good luck, you are not crazy.

    Band has to come out

I never had a band, but I did have the sleeve about 11 months ago. I have never regretted my surgery at all. If you have the option, I highly recommend it!
  9. I was a total diet soda junkie. August 1st last year, when I made the decision to do the surgery, I made the choice to change my eating at that time. I started eating low carb and went cold turkey on my 6 can a day diet soda habit. I switched to Water, I use the flavor packets or the flavor squirt to help but I have never even tried to drink the carbonated drinks. I have to say that I really don't miss the soda at all. You can get past it. ????
  10. Hi all, just wanted to offer a little support. I agree it is tough to get through the liquid diet part of recovery. Please be careful, it can be very painful if you rush your eating. The burping is totally normal, I still burp almost 11 months out! If you are still feeling pain in your side - have you tried wearing a body shaper? Like Spanx? It helped me so much after surgery to have that extra support around my stomach. Keep your spirits up! It gets better soon.

    Rash

You know I have had itchy skin many times since I had surgery - it tends to flare up and I just itch everywhere! Legs, arms, head, neck, back just everywhere...I start to scratch and get rash flare up. I never connected that to my surgery, but it actually has been happening since the surgery. Huuuummmm

    No sleep

Are you laying down? I had trouble sleeping too, I slept better in a recliner instead of a bed for about 6 weeks. The liquid pain meds helped but I only used it for 1 week.

    Keep me in check:)

The most important thing is to get enough protein to stop hunger. You don't seem to be reaching even 50 g on that eating plan. I can not imagine how you were able to even eat pizza at 5 weeks...I am about 11 months out and can't eat dough at all. Be careful with that, it can be very painful.
  14. Jimmy Johns will make any sub without bread, did you know? I miss their bread too, so good! They do lettuce wrap for any sub.
  15. Sip Water from the cap of the bottle. Plan to sleep in a reclined position after you come home, not laying flat - very uncomfortable. Plan to wear body shaper to help with support after surgery, that helped me a lot when I went back to work and had to sit up in a chair all day! Good luck
  16. Sip from a medicine cup or the cap of a bottle of water after surgery - best advise I ever got! A nurse told me that in the hospital and it was GREAT ADVICE! None of the doctors had any real helpful advice about getting the water down...it is hard to drink! That helped me so much...good luck!

    Frustrated

You will go up and down during the week, I was only down about 18 my first month...I remember thinking, THAT'S ALL?!?!? 10 months out and down 110 lbs it does not seem so bad, but at the time I was really upset. I strongly recommend not stepping on the scale everyday...I weigh in once a week to save myself that crazy feeling when we go up in weight. Follow your plan, drink the Water, get out and move everyday it will change.

    Chewable Vitamins

I like Vitafusion gummies - not all are so tasty!
  19. My husband wants me to think about that! I think he misses some parts of me more than others that have shrunk ????

    Bridal shower

I would take a protein shake with me and eat before I went. Don't be tempted by cake or bread! Make sure you are not hungry when you go...I was sleeved mid Oct and went to a Halloween party, they had Hawaiian bread with spinach dip that I LOVED, I ate 2 pieces and it was horribly uncomfortable! That did not go down well at all! I tell you the one good thing, that feeling kept me far away from bread! I never eat bread, LOL. The sweets will not sit well in your tender stomach either...trust me, don't try it.

Anyone else with high BMI to start?

My starting weight was 300, I am 1 year out from when I started my journey and had sleeve surgery 10/8/14. Current weight is 190 ???? and I am very happy so far. My Dr and I did not really set a "goal" weight, but even if I leveled off here i would be thrilled! I am just going to keep doing what I have been doing! Good luck! I can work!

    Marginal Ulcer?

I have not had any complications yet, I had sleeve surgery 10/8/14. My Dr said MOST complication happen within the first 90 day. I was self pay and had the option to take additional insurance, pre-surgery, to cover things like that if they happened. They required I take it to cover the first 90 days, but I opted for the 3 year coverage instead. What symptoms led you to get that checked? Where you having pain?
  23. Judy, Expect vacation to be a challenge...vacation always threw me off before surgery and post surgery it was awful! I was sleeved Oct 8th and felt pretty good by Thanksgiving, but was still only "going" like once a week ????, on vacation, over Thanksgiving weekend, I was out to 10 days and it was painful! Laxatives did not help right away...I had not been taking anything before I left and I regretted that! I am now 10 months out and I take a probiotic daily and don't have any problems now but way back then it was a problem!
  24. iamjamilyn

    My first post

I was 300 so I am about 190 now. I only weigh in once a week, so I don't see the ups and downs daily! I really did not have any complications at all and don't refer it at all. ???? I hope it all works out for you with you insurance. I had an exclusion on my insurance, so I was self pay.
