The rule, and in the manual, we are not to drink for the first two years. Alcohol can cause an ulcer in your smaller stomach so the risk is high. After two years, an occasional red wine is acceptable because the benefits outweigh the risk. BE VERY CAREFUL that one addiction - food - is not replaced with another. For me, it became shopping and I am still battling that one. It could easily have been alcohol, smoking, drugs, gambling, etc. Step back and analyze yourself. Counseling is not a bad thing. My best wishes for a happy and healthy future.

Down to 114lbs. Doctor now recommends RNY!

This is YOUR body. Don't let them force you to have something you are uncomfortable with. -
Mini just means it is laproscopic. The MGB is still the MGB and the RNY is still the RNY. The two ARE NOT the same. The pouch for the MGB is about the size of a magic marker. If the RNY pouch is smaller than that, I would be surprised.

Down to 114lbs. Doctor now recommends RNY!

You can get a revision! No need for a total reversal unless tests prove otherwise. RNY can KILL. My sister went with a RNY because insurance paid for it but she ended up with two bowel resections and multiple stays in the hospital. Join MGB Group on Facebook. Both Dr. Rutledge and Dr. Peraglie watch the page and can jump in when needed. We have members from all over the world who have had or are hoping to have the procedure and many have years of experience. -

Recurrent bouts of diarrhea... help

I prefer eating fiber through food. Whole grains (fiber Cereal for example) and Beans provide a good source along with raw vegetables. Are you lactose intolerant? -

RNY or Mini Gastric Bypass?

MGB has bile backwash? News to me. We can get acid reflux by eating the wrong things (like chocolate) or eating before bedtime. -
RNY or Mini Gastric Bypass?
Elinor M. Reynolds replied to Okiebon's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I had MGB on April 20, 2007 with Dr. Peraglie in Florida. I lost 118 lbs in 13 months and have not taken prescription meds for diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol since. My recent labs were all NORMAL. I have not had any problems since the surgery. My sister had a RNY and had severe complications requiring multiple surgeries to correct the death of her bowels - each surgery removed a little bit more - until she was finally able to move on and become healthy again. -
2 Weeks out and I gained a 1/2 pound today! What's up with that?

We lose in steps so expect gains and plateaus. Both are healthy and normal. -
Help please :(

What are you drinking for liquids? You should be on a liquid such as Gatorade with the necessary electrolytes. Our relationship with food changes after surgery. Head hunger and thirst can be mistaken for belly hunger. First defense is to drink. Nibbling on crackers or pretzels can help the feeling. Also consider an estrogen patch for a short period of time to see if that helps. As we lose weight rapidly in the beginning, we also lose our estrogen stores rapidly which can cause multiple issues both physically and emotionally. Keep us posted on your progress.
