  1. I hovered just above one-derland for many weeks, it will happen quicker if we make the best choices, but what is really cool is that it can and will happen even when we sometimes make a not so great choice. We are living our awesome lives now and for me that SOMETIMES includes a sliver of cake, ice cream, a cookie or slice of pizza. The key for me has been to decide that these things are occasional PLEASURES, no longer GUILTY pleasures. food is to nourish our bodies and YES even sometimes to nourish our souls. I no longer need to feel GUILTY about that and it is wonderful!

If you are feeling that your food choices are working against your goals or they are making you feel guilty you need to stop and recognize that you are in control. Just because you made a few bad choices does not mean you cant continue to make good ones! After all, if you don't deserve the good choices then who does? Free your mind from the old guilt and carry on!

  2. You look great! Its hard for me to see the difference in myself too, until I look at my before pics. They really help!

Hi there......I'm a quiet lurker here but wanted to share, I keep saying to people I don't see the difference until my sister sent me a pic of me at her wedding when I was at my highest weight......I still have a long way to go but my surgery was in May and I am feeling great and can happily say I definitely see the difference now attachicon.gifImageUploadedByBariatricPal1439024923.822333.jpg

  3. I am 5 months post sleeve and I still ocassionaly weigh my food to make sure my intake isn't increasing. Depending on what it is I can eat about 4-6 ounces or 1/2 to 3/4 cup. High Protein foods are more filling than things like fruit or cooked veg. I can eat TONS of watermelon and it is a favorite of mine right now. I drink right up until my meals and then wait AT LEAST 30min after. When our tummies are empty, liquid flushes straight through and I have had no issues with this practice but I know this is not what we are taught...

I have never thrown up and only eat until I'm full, I don't push it. Some days are "hungry" days and I eat every 2 hours or so.

  4. I know exactly what you mean!

I postponed my 3 month checkup for weeks because I thought my surgeon wouldn't think I had done well enough. My husband knew what I was doing and told me I was being ridiculous but I just couldn't shake it.

So I finally went to the appt and my DR barged into the room and demanded a BIG HUG while telling me how great I have done.

I feel it is definitely a "brain needs to catch up with the body" type of thing. Some days I have to look at before photos, try on old pants, etc or I still cant even SEE the difference in my body.

    A very strange thing indeed.

YOU have done phenomenal in such a short time!!!

  5. Thanks so much everybody for the kind words!

Here I am a few days ago on my 5 month "surgiversary", down 65 lbs now. I don't even have the words to express how grateful I am for this miracle that happened to ME!! LIFE IS GOOD

  6. I am almost 11 weeks out and I use Arnold Whole Grain Double Protein bread toasted WELL. I allow myself UP TO 1 slice a day and for 100 calories it gives me 7g of Protein 3g Fiber and only 2g of sugar. just 1/2 a slice (or 1/4 of a sandwich) piled high with turkey, rare roast beef or chicken gives me a good amount of protein and is very satisfying. No issues with my tummy but I think I have a very well behaved sleeve so ymmv. I personally would avoid pb & jelly but as an occasional treat I think it might be tasty on the bread I mentioned.

  7. Hang in there! My "demons" were very much still there in my first few weeks after surgery and I definitely found myself worrying that "something was wrong" with ME or my sleeve. Now I am 8 weeks out and I can tell you that my demons are drifting further & further away each day. I will always be aware of them and make sure they don't creep back, but they are soooo much more manageable now.

You have got this, trust yourself and trust the process. This WORKS even when we have occasional "bites" of imperfection. Congratulations and best of luck to you!

  8. I guess I feel like more of a failure in losing and keeping the weight off because I know I am capable of it with diet & exercise...but my emotional eating (worse with having a mood disorder), constant hunger, cravings & out of control appetite make it so hard..in addition to that I can't stick to anything to save my life, I go from diet to diet and practically starving myself at times until I end up binge eating by the 3rd day and the cycle continues..but are all these good reasons to get wls? Are these some or all of the same problems others have that had surgery to lose the weight and keep it off?

I don't have any health problems that cause weight gain, but I do take required medications that contribute to increased appetite & slower metabolism.

I don't know who I am trying to prove all this to? :-/ I guess only myself. Because I really shouldn't care about anyone else's opinion, but I wish I had the willpower and motivation and dedication, etc to do this on my own, but I haven't been able to in the last 12 years so I deserve a solution to be happy with how I look and feel

And with this new "tool" I am confident that I can achieve that.

Why do you need to take these medications? Cant you just control your health issues on your own? Without the medications? If you can just find enough willpower, motivation & dedication then surely you shouldn't need the help of these medications? See my point?

I am a very motivated and dedicated person but I had something I still needed help with and thank goodness I had the option of receiving that help.

  9. Well, as so many others have said, it is not the easy way out and you will see that when you have this done.

BUT I will say that for me, after 35 years of struggle and yo-yo dieting, this was the BEST way out and I don't regret it for a second. Hard? YEP Worth it times 100? YEP

I am not shouting my WLS procedure from the rooftops but I certainly have not hidden it from anyone. When it comes up I speak of it as if I am the luckiest person in the world to have received this gift, and I truly believe that I am. I have had no negative responses and if I ever do they can simply kiss my SKINNY butt!! :D

  10. I started in a very tight 18 or proper fitting 20 in pants (or a bursting at the seams XL yoga pant) and a 3x in tops.

I am now 7 1/2 weeks out and have lost 24" total from my tummy, bust, hips, arms & calves.

Today I wore a L yoga pant and an XL American Eagle shirt!! In fitted pants I am into 14's.
