    Protein

I LOVE all the unjury flavors, but I find them too sweet at full strength. SO I use half a scoop of the flavor and half a scoop of the UNFLAVORED per 8 ounce shake. This early on you are probably better off making a 4 ounce shake and you can use 1/4 scoop flavored and 3/4 scoop unflavored. Have just two of these per day (make w organic skim milk) and you are already at 50-58g of Protein for the day. Also the unjury chicken soup is very good and delivers 20g of protein with a nice bonus, the 8 ounces of Water used to make it counts toward your fluids for the day!! You can do it .

    Week 2 Soft Foods

I would skip the pastina unless you were specifically told you could have it. I know its teeny tiny but it IS still Pasta. At 7 days I was allowed hummus and purees, applesauce, yogurt, cream Soups, scrambled egg, mashed up tuna or other soft fish, cottage cheese, etc. No Bread or pasta until at least 8 weeks out according to my protocol. No rice for even longer. I doubt I will eat much pasta, bread or rice EVER, but I have had a cracker or pretzel stick now at 5 weeks out, and I may have a little high Protein wheat toast on occasion when I am 8 weeks out. Congrats & best of luck to you!

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet

I dry heaved for almost 2 days after surgery, its a combo of the anesthesia, pain meds and the trauma your tummy just endured. Once home I could smell everything so strongly, even things my husband ate just REEKED on his breath. This issue passed very quickly for me and I feel totally back to normal as far as things like that go. It is scary because we can never really know what to expect, but I can tell you that I am only 5 weeks out and I wouldn't change anything so far. It is a price to pay for sure, BUT the reward is great Congrats & best of luck to you!

    2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

So clearly we are all very different in what we are advised to do and also with the amounts we can tolerate. From day seven I was allowed purees, Soups, cottage cheese, tuna, scrambled egg & yogurt. I could eat 2-3 ounces depending on what it was. 2 tablespoons? wouldn't have cut it for me. Now I am 5 weeks out and can eat 2-4 ounces depending (more dense Proteins are more filling) but generally I weigh my meals to between 3-3 1/2 ounces and usually finish it. My surgeon says he makes his patients sleeves slightly larger than the norm, so this may be why I can eat a little more. I have had virtually zero issues, no nausea, vomiting or severe pain/discomfort that I was so terrified of before surgery. I am certainly NOT suggesting that you go against your program, but I do agree that your protocol seems pretty conservative. Maybe your surgeon makes his sleeves on the smallish side, ONLY you will know what feels right once you start. My NUT gave me a piece of advice that is so simple yet brilliant. She said " if you REALLY listen to your body you will not go wrong".

Tell me what makes YOU special.

I was blessed at age 19 & 20 with a gift that was hands down the best thing I will ever do while on this planet, I gave birth to the two loves of my life. A little boy and then a little girl, all grown up now but they are still my babies Like so many women with chronic weight and eating issues I am a survivor of childhood abuse at the hands of my father. This surgery was one of my last steps in a very long journey back to wellness and joy. I have a huge soft spot for animals, children and the elderly. I want to zipline and go up in a hot air balloon. And last but certainly not least, I believe I am definitely in the running for "girl with the best husband EVER!!" (the third love of my life)

6 Months Out 70lbs Down! (With Pictures)

    Awesome!! Huge Congrats
  8. My NUT says the Protein shakes do not count towards Fluid intake I think that's unrealistic so early out, to drink 3 Protein Shakes per day AND 64 ounces of Water AND 3 meals. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. I usually get about 40-50 ounces of fluids not counting the shake. I jut make sure I hit at least 60g of protein and I usually only need 1 shake and/or 1/2 Quest bar if 90% of my meal food comes from high protein sources like egg, chicken, greek yogurt, etc. I am finding I am hungry less and less and it is actually getting a bit harder to get it all in because I can get distracted and don't have any urgent thirst or hunger anymore.

    What did your family say?

My Mom & Step Dad were over the moon happy that I was having it (wls). Great right? Not so much for me, it hurt that they were so overjoyed because I have always known or FELT that they thought less of me for being overweight. For example. I have foot issues that are not related to my weight (idiopathic neuropathy and pain, my 125lb cousin has the very same problem, NOT weight related) I have explained to my Mom so many times that this is not weight related and when she found out that I was doing the sleeve she said "Wont it be wonderful for your feet not to hurt anymore?" We have a family cruise coming up in August and shes so excited that I might be THIN by then... I KNOW they love me dearly but all the women on that side of my family are thin and Ive always been the one with a "weight problem". UGH Then there is my aunt on my dads side, shes always been on the heavy side and we are VERY close, lots of good times and definitely eating buddies. Shes been "supportive" but has brought up every worry she could think of and just asked me to consider them (like "if you STILL want to do it then I support you" type of thing) and right up until the night before surgery she was reminding me that there was no shame in BACKING OUT... All of the above just annoyed me and added to my stress. Afraid of failing and disappointing my mom yet again and afraid of failing and having my aunt secretly saying to herself "I knew this would happen".. All pressure and thoughts I don't want. My adult kids were just supportive, asked some questions and said "cool!!""sounds great Ma!" Then theres my husband, my DEAR SWEET husband. He met me at 145 and I truly believe he found me just as attractive at 265. He just loves ME. He told me "You don't need to do this for your appearance you know, you are beautiful inside and out. but if you are doing it for your health then I support you and will try to drops some pounds too, right along with you". What more could a girl ask for? I love him more today than I did 20 years ago!!

    10 days post op!

HI! I have tolerated everything I have tried. Scrambled egg, tuna, flaked grouper, ricotta bake, pureed chicken and Beans, pureed beef stew, pureed Soups, cottage cheese, applesauce, greek yogurt, SF pudding with unflavored Protein powder and hummus. think that's about it. No issues, I am a very happy camper. What was your setback?

    Only losing 1lbs a day

I am only 12 days post op and yes I have lost an average of about one lb a day and I think it is freaking miraculous!!! I know that soon it will slow down but boy am I enjoying this right now! Congrats to you
  16. On my clear liquid phase I was pretty upset at how hungry I felt, I was kind of worried too. I also could drink fluids quite a bit faster than I expected with no discomfort (like 6 oz in 15-20 min vs the hour I was told it should take) Now that I am on purees my hunger is nicely under control. Things like 2ounces of tuna or scrambled egg are much more filling and long lasting than things like 2 ounces of applesauce, cottage cheese or yogurt. So I have the more filling things as meals and fill in with the others as Snacks. I am feeling completely satisfied on the 500-600 calories this provides and still have time to get all my fluids in. Hang in there, it will get a lot better very soon. You will feel full when you can start eating foods
  17. I am getting 60-70 per day and that is with just one shake, I have been EXTREMELY fortunate that nothing I have tried has bothered me in the least. (I may regret that but for now it has made this pretty easy) So for Protein I have had pureed chix w/ Beans, pureed beef stew, black bean soup, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and SF pudding and Jello with unflavored protein added.
  18. Yes I most certainly do know what you mean!! I was sleeved same day as you but I was able to move to purees 4 days ago. It has helped IMENSELY as far as the hunger. I am eating something about every 2 to 2 1/2 hours though, because after that amount of time I am often very hungry. A few tablespoons of apple sauce or yogurt, cottage cheese, 2 ounces of pureed Soup, a few tablespoons of ricotta bake, pureed chicken, potato & Beans, and hummus. Those are the things I have tried so far, hang on it is going to get much better very quickly!! I really was shocked that I have felt so hungry. I can tell the difference between when I am just thinking about food and might have room for a bite or two and when I am HUNGRY!!

    POST OP DRAIN

Mine was removed before I went home, so it was only in for two days. Uncomfortable and annoying but really not that big of a deal. Removal was an extremely weird feeling but not painful.

    No more fears

Hi everybody! I'm 2 days post op, got home about 4 hours ago. It is soooo wonderful to have the surgery behind me and just focus on moving forward from here. No more HUGE fears My liquids are going down nicely, I can do about an ounce every 10 minutes. I have had some broth, crystal light decaf tea (1/2 strength) and a Protein shake since getting home. Happy to answer any questions about my surgery experience. MANY thanks to all of those who have been so helpful to me!
  22. So sorry to hear that, this is exactly what I was afraid of. It was at the very top of my fear list. We are all just so very different.
  23. I think it is something called Barretts esophagus that is contraindicated for the sleeve, not GERD. I think quite a lot of us have or had GERD to some degree pre op. Best of luck to you

    Very gurgly

I have been on Protein shakes3x a day made from 4 oz organic skim milk since day 3 post op, this is my surgeons protocol. Other than the shakes I am still on Clear liquids. I was extremely gurgly at first and it is getting better each day.

Need help with my preop shopping list

The following aren't necessities by any means but I bought myself tiny plates, bowls, cups, Water bottles and storage containers. You may also need a good shaker bottle or two for mixing up your Protein shakes, I have two and that is enough. I cleared out one cupboard that is just for my things and supplies, also one of the crisper drawers in our fridge is for my items. My kitchen is black white and red so I bought cute red wire baskets for an area of my counter tops, to keep the supplies on hand that I will use a lot. Again, MY area only I am still on clear liquids and I got sf Jello & popsicles, sf Italian ice, organic broths, Decaf tea bags, several flavors of crystal light, my favorite is the decaf lemon iced tea. unjury protein in all the flavors including the chicken Soup. lucky for me I still love them after surgery!! I use organic skim milk for my Protein Shakes but your instructions immediately following surgery may be different.
