cissy replied to BeckyinTexas's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Absolutely amazing! What's your secret? We want pics! -
Brenda, you look AWESOME. Please don't be discouraged that you have hit a plateau. Look at how far you have come. Keep up the great work!! (((((HUGS)))))

I was thinking it would be cool to do a "then" and "now" about the portions of food we eat to see the progress all of us have made in changing our eating patterns. I'll start it off. Then: 4-course meal at a restaurant (salad, appetizer, main course, dessert) Now: I'm doing good if I make it through the salad. Then: ate out for lunch EVERY day Now: carry a healthy lunch from home Then: fast food 4-5 times per week Now: Mc Who? Then: 12" Subway with all the fixin's, huge bag of chips, 1 liter Coke Now: I won't even touch bread or chips or soda

I know I remember seeing another post about this question some time ago, but I can't seem to find it using Search. How long did it take you to start feeling restriction after your fill? I'm a week out from my 1st fill, and while I eat FAR less than what I used to, I don't get that full sensation in the chest area. I have just been eating until I feel satisfied; I haven't tried to push my band to the limit.

it's about that time of the month now. i'll see how it feels for the next week or so. thanks!

what have you done because you were embarrased of your weight?
cissy replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is too funny!!! -
No catheter. They also made me use the restroom before I got the anesthesia. After the surgery, I had to use it, but I had a hard time going. I've heard something about until the anesthesia completely wears off, some people struggle to pee.

I think so too. My mom was MO until she lost weight about 15 years ago when I was a teenager. My dad is big & tall. My grandmother (mom's mom) has been heavy for as long as I can remember. 2 out of 4 of my mom's sisters are overweight (the 2 youngest ones don't have a weight problem- I think they get their body type from my granddaddy, their dad, he was tall and skinny- not thin, but skinny).

Wow! Awesome news! Keep it up!!

what have you done because you were embarrased of your weight?

1) I would eat an entire pizza by myself & hide the empty box in the oven until trash day (DH never looks in the oven) 2) I would eat something while I was cooking something else, and then eat what I cooked as well 3) carefully peel back the foil on cake frosting to eat some, then put it back so that it looks like it hasn't been opened yet 4) order a combo meal at a fast food drive-thru with an extra burger on the side & eat the extra burger in the car before getting home 5) I started super-sizing my fast food meals whenever I knew no one was going to be around to see me eating that much -
Do you ever feel lethargic and weak from lack of food???
cissy replied to adorkbl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Same with me. Only thing was about a week before I got my first fill, I would get really really hungry. Right now I'm only 5 days out from being filled, but I haven't been hungry. I noticed that I simply can't eat Breakfast because I'm too tight, so I just drink a Protein drink. Then a good lunch, and a small dinner. Granted, I am still on soft foods for another day, but I do eat. -
I'm in too. 1) 20lbs by New Years Eve 2) 60 oz water per day 3) exercise every other day, no exceptions

...so I'm at work yesterday getting absolutely slammed with stuff to do. I didn't take a lunch... heck I didn't even have time to go to the kitchen to get a 2nd glass of Water... I didn't bring my lunch either <bad girl>... anyway when I get home, I'm STARVING!!!! I mean the kind of starving where your stomach hurts, your head hurts, and you're nauseous. So what do I do? Go to WHATABURGER of all places (side bar, I haven't been to Whataburger since a month before being banded) I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich combo, substitute the white bun for a wheat bun. I ate the WHOLE THING... plus the fries... plus a lemonade. I went in for my first fill today... Dr. pulls out 0.8cc of saline that was ALREADY in the band. I was thinking, dang if I could eat that much with almost 1cc in the band just think of how much damage I could have done with it bone dry!!! Anyway, later on I paid for it. Don't get me wrong, I didn't PB or anything, but I did get horrible shoulder pain and an even worse headache. Lesson learned! As I'm typing this now I can slowly feel my stomach swelling around the now even more filled band.

Thanks guys. I came back to my senses after I had that fill yesterday. I only had water & slim fast afterwards. Today I only had water, crystal lite, chicken broth, and now I'm having blended cream of chicken & mushroom soup... so blended that it's literally falling off my spoon like water.

Sex has improved for me since losing a little weight with the band. I usually have my legs up in the air with DH holding them up against his chest or something. A few times he has laid right on top of me and it was uncomfortable where the port is. He has even commented that he doesn't get as tired holding my legs up as he used to.

Linda- I'll check back in after my fill on Thursday.
-
That's a great idea! I will be getting my first fill on Thursday. Since I started on regular food it seems like I've been eating like crazy! I haven't had a loss on the scale in a while, but when I took my measurements I found out I had lost inches. I would REALLY rather see that scale start moving again though. So, September bandsters... what do you think? Are you up for a challenge, say from now until the first of the year? That should give us plenty of time to have some meaningful weight loss, AND give us incentive not to overdo it during the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years)
-
I too have IR & PCOS. I was diagnosed back in 2001 and have gained weight steadily since. The most important thing I have kept in my mind since being banded is to stay away from bread and sodas. They are the enemies! Don't let the fact that you have PCOS keep you from being banded. I made up in my mind that I needed to get the weight off or risk developing full-blown diabetes. I have since lost about 19 pounds.

<p>This is incomplete, but after reading Vinesqueen's complete list of NSV's, she has inspired me to start keeping track of my own. Thanks Vines!</p> <p> </p> <p>9/14/05: surgery @ 9am, home @ 3pm</p> <p> </p> <p>10/3/05: rings fit a little looser</p> <p> </p> <p>10/5/05: I had a pair of pants that I unintentionally bought a size too small. I was able to wear them, but zip them up only halfway. Today, I put them on (not wiggled into them), and not only was I able to zip them up, but I was able to button them as well.</p> <p> </p> <p>10/20/05: 1st fill & official weigh-in. New BMI is 39.3. I am no longer in the Morbidly Obese category.</p> <p> </p> <p>10/26/05: I have lost 10% of my starting weight</p> <p> </p> <p>10/28/05: My rings are really loose now. While I was typing at work, they wiggled their way right down my fingers, so I had to take them off to continue typing.</p> <p> </p> <p>11/5/05: I ran into one of my grandmother's sisters at Wal-Mart. She said "Looks like you're slimming down aren't you?" That's the first time someone in my non-immediate family has commented about my weight loss. That totally made my day!</p> <p> </p> <p>11/9/05: I tried on a pair of size 18 jeans and they fit! (previous size 22W)</p> <p> </p> <p>11/10/05: I was able to comfortably tuck a shirt into my pants.</p> <p> </p> <p>11/11/05: I visited my Granny for the first time since a week after surgery. She fussed at me about wearing my now too-big clothes.</p> <p> </p> <p>11/12/05: I played football with my cousins without getting tired after 5 minutes.</p> <p> </p> <p>11/14/05: One of my co-workers commented on how big my clothes look on me now. (OK, two comments about my big clothes within a few days of each other? Time to go shopping I guess.)</p> <p> </p> <p>11/20/05: I tried on a pair of size 16 slacks and they fit, but not the way I like for pants to fit. I didn't buy them.</p> <p> </p> <p>11/21/05: As my daughter was taking my pic for the End of 2005 Weight Loss Challenge, she said "Mom you're shrinking!"</p> <p> </p> <p>12/3/05: I went to visit my cousin, and I was sitting with my legs crossed for a long time before I realized that I can now cross my legs!</p> <p> </p> <p>12/17/05: Update from 11/20/05: I went back and tried on those same size 16 slacks, and they fit better. I bought them this time.</p> <p> </p> <p>12/28/05: Went home for Christmas & everyone, I mean EVERYone was oohing and aahing over how good I look. Even my Granny, who usually points out the negative, said that she can't get over how good I look.</p>

I have entered the soft food stage of my diet, and the first thing I had was scrambled eggs for dinner last night. I never thought eggs could taste so good, and I've been eating them all my life! I guess it was just the fact that I was not eating for over two weeks straight. One egg left me full, where before being banded I would eat 3 scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and wash it all down with a huge glass of orange juice. Just thought I'd share.
