I Was Told I Look Like I Have AIDS Today..... :-/
Mandyctr replied to livvsmum's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'd be interested to know this woman's age? It's seems people of certain generations 1) feel it's okay to speak their mind to anyone younger, or anyone at all, and 2) come from a time (or it could have been their life experience regardless of generation), where being thin did mean you were sick. I think a lot of people are surrounded by larger people and thin looks sickly to them. Everyone's life experience makes there own reality, but it doesn't make it your reality. What irritates me to no end is people weight, high or low, is none of anyone's business, and not a platform to judge them on, and most important, it speaks nothing of their character so who the hell cares????? It's an annoyingly acceptable part of American culture. Anyway, as I tell me kids, sometimes you gotta pull an Elsa and "let it go" -
I'm not sure what phase your on her but I've learned that whey protein constipates me terribly. That's what the shakes and most bars are made of. If you get your protein from food as much as possible, it can help. Drinking water will too. And I use the Walgreens women's laxative. It works fast without too much discomfort. I'm sure the 'women's' part is a sales gimmick but they were on sale and they work.

I think the best thing I did for myself pre op was go to three psychologist apts instead of one, and read books on self esteem. I think talking to a professional would help a lot. Body image and self esteem are so difficult for women and after having been heavy, you'll probably need some adjusting and it's nice to have an unbiased professional guide you in the journey. Anyway, good luck.

For the first trimester, your baby won't need much nutrition wise from you. Think of all the women who can't hold anything down during that time. After three months, you'd likely get enough, and everything goes to your baby first, so, even more calories gone lol. Sorry this is so stressful for you. Maybe the father of your babies would be a good person to talk to.

I use the Quaker packets. They come in three flavors and they're all good.

How do you relieve the too-full feeling?
Mandyctr replied to ZoeyBear's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm nine weeks out and when that happened I learned I've got to eat slower and chew more thoroughly. And standing up and walking around helps me too. -
Another "I told some people at work and some friends" thread :-)
Mandyctr replied to no onions's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You know what's funny? I haven't held back on telling anyone and I haven't gotten the first negative comment. I'm sure someone somewhere has something negative to say, but they've even smart enough to keep it to themselves. And outside my close circle (who are all supportive), I guess I don't really care what people think. I guess that's why I'm so open with it. Huh. I've never given it much thought. -
I've started drinking shakes again and I'll do one or two 11 oz shakes per day. Does this count towards my fluid intake? I'm still having a hard time reaching that.

I'm eight weeks out and have small amounts of bread and pasta and was fine. However, you'll. e shocked at how little you can eat so be careful not to waste room. I wouldn't do it until after 4 weeks.

That's frustrating. I do know that everyone loses at different places. it'll happen. Man I wish we could choose where we lose.

Weight control oatmeal packets have 7g protein and if made with milk it's 11g. Only 160 calories and 200 with milk, plus I think 5 or 6g of fiber. Worth it for me. They're yummy too. I get sick of eggs in the morning you know:)

Post-op wedding dress issues- need advice!
Mandyctr replied to jordantaylor's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah I agree, I think I would wait until maybe two months out. Or less, that way your loss will have slowed down some and you'll know where you lost and where your extra skin is and everything, but you'll have time to do alterations too. -
The biggest difference is in the left column where you're facing the camera. Your tummy doesn't hang so much, you're less wide and and you can tell you're stomach is significantly smaller. I was sleeved 8 weeks ago tomorrow and wake up every day wanting to be down 75 pounds (I'm at 40). But, 8 weeks isn't very much time. Additionally, plus sized clothes fit a broad spectrum of weights. Seriously, I'm down 40 pounds but only one dress size (from tight 18 to regular fitting 16) BUT, once we get to fourteen or twelve and under, the sizes drop every 10 pounds. Lastly, cameras are the worst! Lighting, angles and other stuff make them unreliable. Don't put too much stock in it. 58 pounds is awesome and don't talk yourself out of your accomplishments!

ADIPEX after sleeve surgery
Mandyctr replied to birdmadgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've lost on adipex several times, it works great ( pre sleeve). The problem is that it ALWAYS comes back. If it came back with sleeve, it will with meds. However, I totally get why you'd want to try it again. It could help get the 15 back off and maybe 'reset' your habits. Hopefully that is the case if you do it. If you do, here's a tip I leaned that made my meds go further, especially since you're smaller now. Break your pill in half and take half a pill along with a Women's One A Day Weight Smart vitamin. You'll feel the appetite control with less jittery side effects. Good luck. -
Husband treats me like a child Re: food
Mandyctr replied to rp1980's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree he probably thinks he's helping and wants to be there for you. Men are doers and fixers. I bet if you were honest with how it makes you feel without being insulting and then told him specifically something you could use from him (let's take a 30 minute walk after dinner for example) I may help. That way he can feel like he's contributing and involved and supportive without stepping on your toes. -
Just make sure you eat small bites ans slowly and it shouldn't hurt. I use a baby spoon. I will be 8 weeks out Wednesday and at three weeks I felt all the things you're feeling. Yes it does get better and from now on you'll feel a little better every day I bet. I feel pretty great now.

I gotten sick of the frith drinks or water too. SO sick. In fact they were making me a little nauseous and I wasn't getting enough in. So I poured some diet come over ice and let it sit a little while to water it down some and sipped at that for about an hour. I drank about 12 oz plus whatever the ice melted ended up being. It didn't hurt and I've done it a few times since then when I just can't take the other stuff anymore. Because it's calorie free and I do t do it much, I'm okay with it. Especially because I know if I wasn't drinking it I wouldn't be drinking anything.

So I'm 7 weeks post op today. So far I've lost 35 pounds and had an almost two week stall starting at week 3 (like everyone). Ideally I'd like to lose 100lbs total but my NUT said my goal should be 80lbs (which is fine). So here's my question: I'm going on a cruise starting August 31st. I'd like to lose another 30lbs by then. That's 12 1/2 weeks from today. Is that realistic? I'm a little concerned I will hit another stall or two and be thrown off. Any thoughts or suggestions?

this might be a bit awkward but....
Mandyctr replied to Courtneyxo17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you try yo do it naturally you could make it worse because it will take too long. I hate raking laxatives too but have had tp post op a few times. The good news is, once you start going you'll feel soooooooo much better -
Yay. Good for you

You will likely feel deprived the first month or two. Especially the first 4 weeks. It's better after that. You're body and mind have to adjust to the new stomach and it won't like it at first. A lot of us are addicted to food. Once you're over the physical and mental (which is harder) addiction, it's fine. I wondered if I had made a mistake the first few weeks and from what I gather, most people do, but you WILL turn a corner and be so glad you did it.

Be strong, it passes. It was TERRIBLE for me. I hated every minute of it. I even had dreams of eating at a buffet, it was crazy (and embarassing) how obsessed I was. It will get better and you'll even look back and think "that wasn't so bad".

Low iron/ hemoglobin levels
Mandyctr replied to sugabear_440's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My iron was a little low but they went ahead with surgery. Iron deficiency is the most common vitamin deficiency. As far as supplements, take your supplements with vitamin c and NOT with calcium (or milk). It works better and faster that way. Good luck. -
6 weeks out and having trouble getting proper fluids in
Mandyctr replied to RammerJammer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same problem. I'm six weeks out today and I am doing fine with protein but the fluids are hard for me. I've always been a water drinker and never really had this problem before. However, I've realized that I used to chug about two cups of water at a time and drink a lot when I ate. Sense I can't do that now, I'm struggling. And like others mentioned, the no water 30 mins before or after eating, and eating 5-6 times a day poses a real problem too. I do find cold works better and makes me less nauseous. I'm hoping that as time goes on I'll be able to drink more at a time. I'll keep trying to figure something else out in the meantime. It's nice to know others feel the same. Good luck! -
I am a success...that has failed to continue
Mandyctr replied to Roo101769's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm a food junkie too and only just under 5 weeks post op. What you're saying is what we've all feared. It could happen to any of us because we are all here for the same reason, we use food for things other than hunger. I will say that I read a lot of books and done a lot of work with the psych I saw to try to wise up on my food addiction. I learned that for me, I use food to distract myself and release dopamine when I'm down on myself, or bored, or a myriad of other things. It's my drug of choice to make me feel okay right then. Actually, really good right then, and that's a hard thing to combat. I've read some good books and recommend you read some books on food addiction too. You can also start going to over eaters anonymous (I think it's free). I think you're making the right choice about not taking your daughter from one daycare to another and good on you for that. But maybe you could take walks with her after dinner. Anyway, my main point is that until you get to the bottom of your food addiction, you're going to have this problem (perhaps in varying degrees). I'm not saying this with judgment or a holier than thou attitude, I'm saying this as someone who understands. Good luck to you. You're not crazy, lazy or alone, you're just fighting a difficult battle.
