    Depression after the Gastric Sleeve

Yeah I've had blood work done. I'm going to try and setup an appointment to see a neurologist per my primary care physician. Just to try and figure out a way to fix my memory issues.

    Depression after the Gastric Sleeve

Yeah I need to change my weight loss number. I'm down now closer to 115lbs instead of 60. I know the rapid amount of body mass that is coming off of me is affecting my memory. I just wasn't expecting it to affect in a way to actually cause more harm that what I need to deal with.

    When did you have bloodwork?

I've had blood work done twice now since my surgery which was back on Dec 2014. The last time was last Friday to figure out if my memory loss was cause by my surgery.
  4. Yeah I've been using coco-butter oil and moisturizing lotions to keep down on rashes and other skin issues. I have notice that the bottom of my feet are like extremely dry and cracking. So I've moved to a medicated moisturizing cream on my feet. The oil just isn't doing the job down there. Good luck to you.
  5. So let me add on to the complication stories already posted here. Got sleeved back on Dec 22nd of 2014. I was fine for the first few (3) weeks out of surgery. Then around the last week of Jan that when things started to take a turn for the worse. I had caught some sort of stomach virus that made even taking down just Water a problem. I wound up in the ER twice within a 3 week span. The last visit to the ER I had lost all short term memory and I was severely dehydrated. I had to get not only an IV of fluids but an IV of Multivitamins that night just to get my vision straight. It has been almost a month since that last visit and I am still dealing with short term memory stuff although my vision has cleared up a lot. I've remained in contact with both my surgeon and my primary care doctor to try and figure out what we can do to get me back on the better end of the recovery process. I did have to go back on the full liquids again for an additional week and I have been on a prescribed Multivitamin pill along with some additional prescription B Vitamins. So far I am down about 110lbs since the start of the pre-surgery liquid diet phase of this. As much as I enjoy not having that much weight on me, the complications from it have been making life a bit more difficult for me. I work in IT and not having a good enough memory when 1.5 - 5 million dollar projects depend on you remembering can be indeed stressful. I also have to go to therapy to deal with the mental changes the surgery has caused. They have been helpful but again with the memory loss sometime I forget those appointments and I've already had to pay for an expensive no show fee. All in all would I do this again, yes because I know I am extending my life by getting the weight off of my body. But the complications sure are making it difficult to easily say yes again. Right now I have an appointment to follow up with my primary doctor this week and I am going to ask him about getting on pure Vitamin shots instead of taking the pills. I really would enjoy for my short term memory loss to go away. Then I could focus a lot more time on shedding off more weight and actually feel good about my accomplishments so far.
  6. I was sleeved back on 12/22/14. During the liquid diet phase I lost about 30lbs going from like 491 to about 461. Since the surgery as of last week I was at 384lbs. So if including the liquid diet phase I am down about 107lbs. Have I had complication, oh hell yeah. Let start with a Vitamin deficiency that has landed me in the hospital twice within the past two months. First time was a stomach bug and strep throat that made me sick which caused getting anything down to be difficult. the second time was from sever dehydration because I just couldn't stop puking, that caused me to have blurry vision and now short memory loss that I have been battling for about 3 weeks now. As far as weight lost I haven't stalled cause I'm still not eating as much as I did and my surgeon had me start my weeks back over again. So I'm just now back on "soft solids" again. Other than the memory loss and sense of confusion I am happy with the progress. I feel like I could be farther along with this, but getting sick was also not in the plans. I will follow up with my primary doctor to see about getting on the B complex shot instead of taking the oral stuff to help at least restore my short term memory and get my B vitamin levels back on point. Good luck to everyone.
  7. I'm about 5 weeks post surgery and for the last two days I can't stop throwing up. I've called my surgeon and they want me to keep taking the ondansetron for nausea, but it's too the point that I'm ready to go to the emergency room. Help please?

    I can't stop puking what's going on

I saw my surgeon today. He checked my stomach and there was no blockage or leakage. I'm still feeling quite nauseaed.

    Really constipated.. I think...

Yeah I am about 5 weeks out and started to feel stopped up a few days ago. I started taking Metamucil last night just to kinda help get things along. Already I noticed my bloating feeling has gone down quite a bit. But I'm also taking in prunes too. I have been on regular food diet for about two weeks and slowly adding solid foods in. I would say look into things like Colace, Ducolax, Milk of magnesia, and Metamucil.
  10. Sleeve was 12/22/14. I don't know how much I am down since I left the hospital but I can tell just by how loose my clothes are that I've lost a lot of weight. I also started solid foods this past Sunday which was a good and bad thing. I wasn't getting in much Protein so I've gone back to the shakes for sure for now. I need to get an unflavored protein mix that I can also put into other stuff like yogurt that way I can get that count up. As for solid Proteins right now seafood seems to be the only thing I can get down and actually keep down at the moment besides eggs. I have tried chicken twice and turkey (turkey Breakfast sausage) and found myself unfortunately puking it up. I will try those again in a few weeks. Right now I will stick to what I know works and not try to rush things. The mental aspect of this is indeed rough. To help with the solid food I have been giving myself 12 minutes between bites of food. That seems to help out a whole lot tonight. I was actually able to get about 5 bites of fish down doing this and for the first time in almost a month I actually felt full.
  11. Hi everyone, I had my VSG back on Dec 22 and today was my first day back on regular foods. Well regular foods minus the bread, rice, Pasta, red meat, pork and sugars that is. Today I tried Breakfast turkey sausage for the first time in months, and needless to say it didn't stay down. I think I kept it down all of 20 minutes before it was too much bloating and belching to the point that it came back up. I find myself struggling with I guess the eating slowly. And by that it seems like waiting 3 to 5 minutes between bites is not enough time. Besides the turkey, I had issues with soft chicken too where it just seems like it doesn't want to go down. Anyone have any other recommendations on what I can do to try and keep the stuff down? I know I need to give myself time to let my body heal, but the not keeping actual meat Protein downs is worrying me. I know my body is starting to go into Ketosis and I am not doing it any favors by not getting in the recommended protein and Water amount.
  12. Yeah I didn't think it would be that heavy since it was in the list of approved Protein, but I guess I am so wanting to get back to a sense of normalcy that I wanted it to work out. Yeah I am indeed going back to the Protein shakes at least for the next few weeks as I am starting to increase my workouts from just cardio to resistance and weights. At work the only thing I have been eating has been yogurt since it seems to be the only food I can put down without issues at this time. Cheerios too i guess. But yeah it seem like poultry has been giving me some issues as of late.
  13. I guess everyone is different. I have no issues with water at all. I am starting week 4 post surgery and its seems like water is getting easier and easier to get down. I still suffer from the belching, but its not nearly as bad as the belching from just simple bloating or eating. As some others would say just sip the water a bit slower than you are doing and don't try to over do it. Its weir how some things work okay for some while others struggle.
  14. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think I will indeed try and go back to the Protein shakes for now and just stick to two or three bites of some of the solids until the stomach heals which I was told could be another month or two from now. Man I didn't realize how mentally challenging this journey was going to be until now.
  15. The last time I did a Protein shake the bloating it caused had me in pain for almost two hours. But yeah I can't just rely on yogurt and Cereal alone to get my Proteins in. I will probably do more of the shakes this week. Right now pure Water has been the only thing I can get down consistantly without any issues. I am getting about 40-64 ounces of it in a day now which is good on the days I do it. But bad on the days I don't like today. The bad breath and thrash for the ketosis is brutal right now.
