Hi Madeleine, The last post was this past Summer, I think you were seeing my join date. No matter the case, welcome and good for you for seeking us out. I haven't been on this site in a while so I don't know if maybe there are other threads for the Ottawa area started that might be more active but there is a Yahoo Group that is very active specifically for the Ottawa area. We meet regularly in varying numbers about once a month and chat on the group daily with food logs and support. Please feel free to join up there as well. OttawaBandsters : Ottawa Bandsters Unite! You may have to join Yahoo itself before you can join the group but I promise you you'll get lots of support from our 30+ members. No matter what you decide, all the best in your Band Journey. Nan

Hi, What clinic were you banded at in Toronto? I'm not sure yet how much Dr. Bishop charges for fills but I can tell you he and his clinic are fantastic for support. He is just starting to be able to do fill for TLBC patients (which I am) so I haven't been for a fill with him yet. There is probably a post in here somewhere that tells how much it costs. I'm thinking $75 to $80 but again I'm not sure. A few local folks gather semi regularly for coffee and such. We plan them and support each other in the following Yahoo group. Feel free to join! OttawaBandsters : Ottawa Bandsters Unite! Nan

There are lots of folks that join pre-op to learn from those who have the band what it's like and such.

So far there is a plan to get together for coffee this Thursday at 6:30pm, probably at the second cup in Bells Corners but I'll confirm in a day or so. Does anyone want to plan for a weekend Breakfast gathering too? It's been ages since we had that large group together.

So I just got in from visiting TLBC for a teeny fill and just want to reiterate that the staff there is wonderful for answering questions, offering support and looking after their patients. Once again I have more evidence that any concerns I get when I speak to Nancy on the phone are totally the opposite of her in person. Friendly and efficient and ready with answers and suggestions and advice.

Anyone interested in planning time for a gathering in the next bit?

Dr. Bishop is doing fills for other bandsters, SWLC included. I don't know what Dr. Bishop is waiting for specifically. To me it sounds good that he is so careful though. I don't know what the delay is from Dr. Yau either. I only know what Nancy at TLBC has told me, that we can get fills elsewhere and that she doesn't know anything about Dr. Bishop. And that the receptionist at Dr. Bishop's office says he's waiting to hear back from Dr. Yau.
-
Nancy, the fill nurse at TLBC has told me repeatedly that we can go to other doctors for fills. That it is TOTALLY fine. At the same time, if I were hearing it second hand through a group I'd still want to hear it from my fill nurse/clinic/band surgeon anyway. I'm just saying... Be safe for yourself always.

Good Morning! Well I just heard back from Dr. Bishop's office to let me know that AGAIN, Dr. Yau has not replied to Dr. Bishop's requests for a meeting. The receptionist said Dr. Bishop is trying as he knows there are a bunch of us in Ottawa who would like to get filled locally. I say we 'band' together and we all contact Dr. Yau DIRECTLY. Basically let's pepper the clinic with requests that Dr. Yau contact Dr. Bishop. Even if you plan on ALWAYS going back to the clinic for fills, defills, what have you. Please help us who want to have someone who (from all reports) knows how to do fills and is a great weight loss support beyond that as well. I've been somewhere else in locally for a defill. It was not a pleasant experience and I have the MARK to prove it! email: info@tlbc.ca and address it to Dr. Yau Call: 800.409.8151 and leave messages asking to speak to Dr. Yau himself Let's get the support we need for those emergency defills or whatever! Dr. Bishop wants to be sure he is approved by Dr. Yau, let's get him approved! (Can you hear the rally call tone of my voice?

I chose TLBC and am happy for the choice. Dr. Yau is great and if you need to speak to him you can get him. I have had some concerns with Nancy's tone but to be honest it seems more like her phone manner than anything. On the phone I 've found she can be abrupt and seem unsupportive (at times beyond unsupportive) but in person she has been different. She's calmed any concerns I've had andswered any questions and is extremely efficient with fills. I think it could just be a phone thing... so far.

Congratulations on hitting a goal! No matter the rate of loss it has to feel good. Way to go!

I haven't seen anyone else saying they can make it Thursday evening but just in case here's the info. Bells Corners Second Cup 6PM on Thursday March 20th It looks like there may be just two of us so far but it'd be great if anyone else was able. Pass the word on to anyone who might be interested! Anyone interested in a weekend gathering soon?

Hi, Actually a few of us are getting together this Thursday, the 20th around 6 - 6:15 PM at the Second Cup in Bells corners. All are welcome to join us so please pass the word around. As for the weekend get togethers... does anybody want to set a date for the next one? How does a Sunday morning sound this time? Just putting it out there! :-)
-
Greetings, I'm just putting this out there and am totally open to suggestions, as always. How does March 8th sound for the next get together? Perhaps the second Saturday of each month for the weekend version and third Wednesday for the coffee break (evening get together). That would hopefully give folks enough option for regular meet ups that no one misses out. I have no thoughts on location as I'm mobile and can get anywhere. So far opinions for the coffee break meet up have kept it at the Second Cup in Bells Corners. I'm just looking for thoughts... All the best,

Sorry to say I won't be there tomorrow, now. A friend has run into a babysitter prob so I volunteered and will be stuck all day... Will be missing the chance to everyone.... All the best!

Greetings, Tomorrow at 10:30am there is a get together at the Chances R restaurant at College Square (baseline and Woodroffe). Reservations are under "Bandsters" and all are welcome. Thanks,

Well I've been trying something new the past few days and seem to be having some good results. I've been having relfux in bed pretty much every night for the past month. I did the typical no eating a few hours before bed, stopped drinking Water bout an hour before and still I was woken up repeatedly choking, inhaling what I thought was water or saliva then having to bring it up or not sleep. Anyway, this week I did something new. I had a light snack around 10:30 the other night. I knew I was taking a risk but I flushed it through as my goal was to get something into my main stomach as my theory was that because my stomach was so empty it had nothing to do and thus acid was coming up through the band. It actually worked! Or at least I think so... Monday night I fell asleep on my stomach for the first time in a long time. It was awesome! So I repeated this light snack late in the evening then flushing it through. Again, no problem! I dunno if I'm looking at this in the wrong way but if it keeps working I'm going to keep doing it and not get the tiny defill! Of course, I've been hungry almost constantly for the past few days so perhaps the band has loosened. But I'm no where near PMS and that could be why.... It's all speculation but I'm pleased with my sleeping!

I don't know if you've found the info yet but there are a couple of Lap Band clinics in Toronto. Best place to start is contacting them. Here are a couple of links. Healthy Weight Loss | TLBC (The Laparoscopic Band Centre) | Contact Us The Surgical Weight Loss Centre

Yes. It's not too bad as long as I bring the Fluid up. I know I'm not supposed to do that but I can't sleep sitting up ALL the time! Just kidding, it's not THAT bad but not the best either. I wasn't having this problem before Christmas, but I started down a bad path during the holidays and haven't been able to get back on track. Mainly, eating too much, too fast, etc... and then not letting my stoma and pouch rest after having an "issue". Well... anyway, I've been doing much better with taking it easy so there's just the reflux to deal with. I got the impression from Dr. Bishop's receptionist (nurse?) that it's Dr. Bishop being thorough and covering all bases that is causing the delay. Nancy the fill nurse at TLBC said there would be no problem with another doc doing fills nor would it mean anything down the line if there was a problem. Personally, that Dr. Bishop is being so thorough only adds to my confidence in him based on what I've heard about him so far. I have given the DVD to my family doc who is a general surgeon as well. But having found out what I have about Dr Bishop makes me prefer him to my doc. If the reflux was worse than it is I'd make the trip to Toronto but I'm willing to wait a bit longer at least... in this weather this week that is. The cost of driving to TLBC for a free fill out weighs my concerns for paying for a local fill so while in principal I agree, why can't the fills be free, I have no issue paying around the same cost as a trip to TO. See you all Saturday? Reservations are made for 10 (so far) under Bandsters at Chances R.

Well it's still a no for TLBC patients to see Dr Bishop. It doesn't matter that Nancy at TLBC said it would be fine. Dr Bishop wants reassurance from Dr Yau that there won't be issues and such. It's a good thing that he's so thorough, don't get me wrong, but I'm annoyed just the same cause I'd really like a tiny defill so I can sleep better!! I just don't want to go all the way to Toronto for it!
