I'm full all the time
KerryRNY04162015 replied to Rochoa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank goodness I'm not alone. About 1.5 weeks out and all the protein makes me feel sick. I try but maybe get one shot. The broth has helped me with nausea and watered down Gatorade -
How long was your pre-op diet?
KerryRNY04162015 replied to smilingsarahjo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2 weeks for me although I've read in forums before that some surgeons base the pre op diet length depending on how much weight you lost beforehand. Although I don't get how that matters I had a lot of issues and didn't lose much on my own. I would ask your nutritionist or surgeons office. -

Loose clothes coming in. You will only wear it coming in the rest of your stay will be in a hospital gown and no undies. Most of my time there I slept but it's probably nice to have a book or laptop for down time. Luckily I had family there most of the time to keep me company. And yes Chapstick is wonderful to have. -
Lets talk gas...

Gas pain was really painful for me. Everything else the morphine got rid of. They say walking helps it but I didn't notice a difference with that it just felt good to not be sitting or laying -

LADIES on METFORMIN for PCOS... Did you stop taking the medication during your pre op liquid diet? -
I'm on my pre surgery liquid diet and I've lost 20 lbs in a week. Today I stepped on the scale and gained 2 lbs. Has anyone else experienced this?

good luck! -
I haven't had a chance to ask my surgeon & I'm just curious. For those of you that take metformin for PCOS (not diabetes) were you able to stop taking the medication after surgery? And if so did you have any blood sugar issues? If I don't have metformin now (my surgery is in 3 weeks) then I get really low blood sugar, get dizzy and almost pass out.

My surgeon decided for me because of my health issues. I'm sure yours will guide you down the right path.

Dad Almost Died From Sleeve
KerryRNY04162015 replied to SleeveNoob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My friends sister in law passed away. She became deficient in something and it caused her to get some rare condition that killed her. She was and is very against me having surgery. She couldn't give me details because it's a huge lawsuit right now. Sad. I'm glad your dad survived. That sounds horrific. But I agree with you that sometimes that risk is worth it when you are overweight and have health issues. That's why I'm doing it too, despite her story she told me. -

Following! I have surgery in less than 3 weeks and haven't had a period in years unless I was on the pill. That'd be amazing if it worked that soon. I have other issues such as endometrial cancer thanks to PCOS so having a period would be a blessing for me and hopefully a cure???? -

Feeling discourage
KerryRNY04162015 replied to mari41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The stress of losing so much weight causes hair loss. My surgeon said it will happen 6 months after surgery. There's things you can do to help it. I'm taking biotin sublingual and I read that putting beef gelatin powder in your shampoo helps too. My hair has felt stronger since then. Best of luck to you -

Did you already have surgery and if so did they take you off metformin? I'm currently on it and I have surgery in a little over 3 weeks. I'm just curious -
3 months out and pregnant
KerryRNY04162015 replied to kymmiej11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Online I've read to wait 12-18 months but my Surgeon advised it was normally safe 6-8 months out.
