Science says the band stinks and the sleeve works.
Totoro replied to CoffeeGrinDR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I never considered the band because of the lifestyle restrictions that came with it. Coupled with the fact that there is a 30% complication rate after the surgery. My surgeon was very up front about discouraging patients from having it. I witnessed the limitations first hand at a dinner party when a banded friend spent half the night throwing up. Very happy with the sleeve. I've lost nearly 30kg in 7 months. My banded friend, 25 in 12. -

I have carbonated drinks too. I burp immediately and take smaller sips. No problems here. -

-
Thank you! I believe it is excellent too!! We hope it will really help children learn resilience, something that is sadly lacking in our society right now.
-
Hi everyone, my very talented husband has written and illustrated a children's picture book which addresses the very serious topic of bullying in a colourful, humorous way. The main character, Square Peg, doesn't fit in her round world at all, and is excluded by her peers. Rather than play the victim, she uses her most powerful tool available to her - her resilience - to great success. We are trying to get this book published through Kickstarter - so are seeking preorders of the book to fund the printing. Please check out the link and support our project if you can - we believe this is a very worthwhile issue to be writing about and would love to get it out there into the wider community. http://kck.st/1GS7XKG Square Peg has a Facebook Page too! With illustrations and more information! https://www.facebook.com/SquarePegBook

I would not have had the surgery if I could no longer eat spicy food, I love it that much!! No problems with it at all!

Has anyone had a sleeve *and* a c-section in their life?
Totoro replied to Menelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I had 2 caesars and the sleeve op was a walk in the park pain wise compared to them. I went home after the sleeve not needing any pain medication at all. I did suffer greatly from nausea for a couple of weeks but that was unusual and it went away fine. -
I had a 4 Week preop diet prescribed for me, and a family wedding right in the middle of it. I asked the surgeon if I could cheat just on the wedding and he said of course I could!! So I ate and drank to my heart's content. Then I had my sister's 40TH birthday dinner the week before surgery and I had a margarita. My liver was absolutely fine.

Here are a couple of examples
-
I was sleeved 8.5 weeks ago and have lost just over 40 pounds in total, about 22 since surgery. I have a protein shake for breakfast during the week because it's quick and easy, but on the weekend I'll have a poached egg on toast. I can't eat it all though. For lunch during the week I normally have a small tin of tuna on a couple of wholegrain crackers. Dinner is chicken or meat of some sort with vegetables and no carbs usually. I have an excellent plate set which helps me to portion my food.

BE HONEST SLEEVERS, did anyone think okay they are going to cut half of my stomach off and the weight will just fall off?
Totoro replied to tamelntre's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I chose the sleeve because it has a natural eating pattern with no worries about dumping or malnutrition. Sure, I still need to eat the right foods, but it's a hell of a lot easier when you only have a tiny stomach to fill. I always knew it was just a tool, not a magic wand. -
Anyone from Sydney/NSW?
Totoro replied to NaomiAus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What's the omega loop? Is it another form of gastric bypass? -
Wow it's so different here in Australia. 3 nights is standard for a Sleeve. I had some nausea issues so stayed 4.

When can I drink Alcohol?
Totoro replied to judyoz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a single glass of wine ???? at 4 weeks while on a date night with my husband. I sipped on it for an hour and enjoyed it immensely. I have no intention of giving up alcohol completely, but I have greatly reduced my intake. No more drinking during the week or even every weekend. In social situations only, which isn't that often. -
I had severe nausea for 2 weeks. They tried me on 5 different meds in the hospital and none of them worked. I was very sick but my surgeon wasn't worried. He said that even though it wasn't usual, he had seen enough cases that he wasn't worried. He was more concerned that I was keeping down enough fluid. I only started to feel better when I forced myself to have some Protein drinks. Now I feel 100%.
