December sleeves, how are you doing?
catlover2565 replied to HMR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was on 12/16 and I am down 44 pounds so far.. I have had little stalls but that is to be expected. I have also had some wicked reflux that I have never had before... I see my nut again on Wednesday. -
I tried a couple and didn't like them at all.. I now make my own Protein bars.. I think they average out to be less than 50 cents a bar and have 18 grams of protein in them...
-
Ok so I am on normal foods and can have Protein bars. I found a recipe to make my own! No baking! They smell like Reeces Peanut Butter Cups!! I will be able to try these later once they have chilled in the fridge for a bit! I think they look pretty yummy!!! Nutritional value: I can post the recipe if anyone wants it!

Homemade protein bars!
catlover2565 replied to catlover2565's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
SORRY!!!! HOMEMADE PROTEIN BARS Ingredients (Makes 12 Bars) - 8 scoops chocolate Protein powder – I used whey Tech Pro 24 Rich Chocolate - 1 cup oatmeal - 1/3 cup natural Peanut Butter – I used PB2 mixed with Water - 3 tbsp honey – I used imitation honey - 1/2 cup almond milk - 3 tbsp crushed peanuts Directions 1. Mix together the Protein Powder, oatmeal, peanut butter, honey and milk. 2. Form into 12 bars and then roll in the crushed peanuts to finish. 3. Place in the fridge for about 30-45 mins or until solid It is pretty hard to mix and will seem like it is too dry.. you have to use elbow grease to get it mixed well… rolling in the peanuts doesn’t work that great so you will need to press the nuts into the bars. -
I had zero gerd prior to surgery... Now I am waiting for the doctor to call back and tell me if I can take prilosec again even though I just stopped taking it last Wednesday... This is BAD... I constantly feel like I need to puke.. have this lump feeling at the base of my throat that just wont go away... I am probably going to ask for a script... the OTC version is expensive if I have to take it long term...

I am keeping track of EVERYTHING that I eat... I am just wondering if anyone counts their carb intake, and if you do what do you try to keep it around?? Thanks!
-
I had my surgery on the same date as you.. Talked to my nut last week and she told me that I should be around 800 calories a day, 80 carbs or less, but as others have said, go with what your nut says.. This early on, it is still a learning process. It takes time! NONE of us put this weight on overnight, and NONE of us will lose it overnight either! Try to look at a loss as just that.. a loss.. you aren't gaining. That means you are still going in the right direction!
-
I just wanted to say that I am glad that I found this forum! You all are wonderful! I do not really have people that I can talk to in real life that can even remotely understand what I am going through. I do know one fellow sleever at work, but can't really talk to him about some stuff. So... Thanks!!

Simply not hungry

I think the Beans really add to the dish... I even let friends try it, and everyone loved it! As far as the salmon goes, when I made it I went very simple... Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes salt and pepper on both sides... spray cookie sheet with nonstick spray... squeeze lemon over it just before eating. I had them remove the skin... it should flake apart with fork when done.. so check at 10 minutes to see... -

SLOW-COOKER SALSA CHICKEN! This is low fat and Low Carb Ingredients 2 lbs. (32 oz.) chicken breasts, boneless and skinless 1 cup salsa, homemade or purchased 1 cup petite diced canned tomatoes (choose low-sodium) 2 tbsp. taco seasoning 1 cup onions, diced fine 1/2 cup celery diced fine 1/2 cup carrots, shredded (you can leave these out if you are concerned about the carbs) 3 tbsp. sour cream, reduced fat (can use regular sour cream if you like) Directions Place the chicken in a slow cooker. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the meat then layer the vegetables and salsa on top. Pour a half cup Water over the mixture, set on low and cook for 6-8 hours. The meat is cooked when it shreds or reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. When ready to serve, break up the chicken with two forks then stir in the sour cream. Makes eight 1 cup servings. Nutrition Info: Calories: 164.9; Fat: 2.5g; Carbohydrates: 7.3g; Protein: 27.6g I omitted the carrots and celery and added one can of pinto Beans and 2 cans of black beans (both drained and rinsed) It does add carbs, but it also adds Fiber and tastes amazing! I would add a bit more seasoning in if you do the beans or it may seem a bit bland. It also tastes GREAT without the sour cream! Nutritional info with beans: Calories: 278 Fat: 3 g Carbs: 32 Dietary Fiber: 8 g Protein: 32 Granted I cannot eat a whole cup in one sitting to get the 32 grams Protein.. but I eat 1/2 a cup a few hours apart... -

When is Hot Sauce ok to have post surgery?
catlover2565 replied to monopoly2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 7 weeks out.. I have been adding spices like chipotle powder and chili powder to foods.. my NUT told me that it was ok after I hit the 6 week mark. I haven't actually added hot sauce.. yet.. I have had some pretty nasty reflux and didn't want to make it worse with that... I have used a medium heat salsa in a chicken dish. -

The taste change is normal according to my doc. I haven't found that anything tastes different to me, but he said that many people do seem to have that issue and that it may or may not be a permanent change. as far as recipes go.. I have found that cooking stuff in the crockpot (mainly meat dishes) help a LOT! I have a salsa chicken recipe that is just superb if you are interested. IF you are wanting to try fish/seafood again, I would recommend salmon. I am currently making a pulled pork dish in the crockpot, but haven't tried it yet so I cannot vouch for its taste.. yet! -

Do you count carbs?
catlover2565 replied to catlover2565's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK thanks!! I seem to be averaging around 34-40 carbs at most each day... I just wasn't completely sure if that was too much or what.. Added that to the list of questions to ask my nut when I go back later this month -
I tried shrimp for the first time since surgery and yay! it stayed down! I'm surprised I could eat as much as I did! 3.5 ounces.. And I am not stuffed! Satisfied!
-
ok so I am getting this odd sensation in my lower throat... I have never had heart burn or acid reflux before so I have NO IDEA if this is what this is... it almost feels like a burning feeling... like there is food right there and I might puke... haven't changed anything other than adding in coffee which was approved by nut... but that was at 7 am this morning.. I also had this feeling wake me up in the middle of the night with no coffee for the prior 2 days... kinda hard to explain... Could this be acid reflux or heartburn?? or is it the new "I'm hungry"?? I just ate an hour and a half ago... Can I take tums??

Everyone loses at a different rate.. a loss is a loss.. you are going in the right direction!! Be happy with that!! Just remember that many people DO have stalls in the process.. Keep on pressing on!
