  1. Hi You have to remember that whatever you put in your mouth you have to count the calories - so if you're still consuming high calories even though they are in liquid form (as in a Wendy's) you won't lose weight. Aslo, the liquids don't make you feel full. Try restricting your liquids and eating foods that will take longer to go through your stomach ie chicken and fish and vegies and don't drink 10mins before you eat and 30mins after you've eaten. Hope this works. Lesley
  2. My hubby came down and sat with me for half the day but I really didn't know or care if he was there or not. I stayed in overnight (my surgeon required it too) and was ready to go home early next morning. It was a lot more painful than I thought it would be - I've had lapband surgery before but it was very different to this. I was pretty uncomfortable for the best part of a week but after that it's been great. Good luck Lesley
  3. Weight Loss Tickers Hi My doctor told me to go on Opti Fast for two weeks prior to the op. It was really low calorie - I was on about 700cals per day. I ended up only doing it for 8 days as my op was brought forward. He said it was to reduce the size of my liver and thus make the op easier for him to do and less painful for me. AFter I had it I had no vomiting or nausea while the other two patients that had it done on the same day were really sick after their op and they hadn't done the special diet. I lost approx 10lbs in that 8 days.....it was hard to do but the thought of less pain was a motivating factor and I'm so o glad I did it. Lesley
  4. Not sure about the insurance thing. I live in Australia and the Health System and private insurance covered some of it and I had to pay $3000 extra - which included doctor's follow up for the next 12months. Hospital was covered by health insurance and there was no'qualifying' criteria - obviously different systems. My specialist didn't even weigh me - just needed a referral from my local doctor who, though usually very conservative, thought this was a good idea.
  5. Hi Jodi - Yes I had a BMI of 32 and got banded 8 days ago. Same thing as you - couldn't get it under control. I saw this as a preventative measure as well as treatment - figured if I didn't do something drastic I'd get lots bigger with lots more medical complications - I already had high cholestrol and was pre diabetic. I just didn't want to get to the stage where I had too many medical complications. My surgery went really well - doc said it was easy for him to do- and I'd stuck with the Opt Fast for the 8 days prior to surgery to reduce liver size. So far so good - though I will say it was much more painful than I thought it would be. Cheers
