On TLC us a show called My 600 lb Life and there is a woman who went through the exact same thing. Her name is Zsalynn Whitworth and I remember watching the show thinking if he loved her he would help her, even if he wasn't ready to help himself. He loved keeping her under his thumb is what he loved. You need to take care of yourself. -
Can we just put it out there and point out that gas really hurts after surgery? I read about dairy intolerance following surgery but the menu my doc put me on has milk and yogurt. Oh My Goodness I thought I might die. I'm going to look into dairy alternatives but yogurt and cheeses are good sources of protein (I'm 4 day post op, no meats yet - nothing thicker than yogurt right now). Any thoughts? Suggestions? Gas-x strips? Worth it? I'm trying to add protein powder into things but the bubbles from protein drinks hurt too.

Does weight loss usually plateau at some point?
Aerohead21 replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think people don't realize this isn't your typical weight loss plan. This is pretty darn extreme. So the weight loss is a bit extreme too. As long as you're getting everything in plus your vitamins you should be ok. -
Anyone else end up with injured Spleen? How long to heal?
Aerohead21 replied to Elizabeth21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just can't believe your surgeon didn't tell you. The spleen is an organ that filters blood so it bleeds super easy. You can't miss it if you lacerate it. My doctor told my mom, then said no blood thinners after surgery as it would increase the chance for internal bleeding. All I know is I feel horrible. I can't wait until it gets better. -
If you're concerned about protein, you can buy unflavored protein powder to mix in. It helps a lot!!

Gastric Sleeve on 1-5-15: New Year, new me!
Aerohead21 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My name is Kristen. I am a 33 year old single mom in KS. I just had the gastric sleeve done on 1-5-15. They injured my spleen while in there so my recovery has been rough. I am lucky that my insurance covers the surgery and I have options in my area. A lot of people don't have insurance coverage and they have to drive far away just to find a surgeon. With that said, today is day three and I am pretty miserable. -

Thanks and I'm looking forward to it getting easier. It's just one day at a time right now. I am currently walking my living and dining room walk walk walk, sip sip sip. -
Looking for "What I Wish I Knew" Tips and Suggestions!

Don't let yourself get thirsty. Dehydration is no joke. And if you have small children, find someone who can watch them reliably. They don't understand mommy's tummy really hurts. -
About 6 weeks out and back to life
Aerohead21 replied to emsgirl114's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just had my sleeve 1-5-15 and although my doctor and I discussed going back to work that was before he injured my spleen :/ I may need to take another week off just to be ok. This really hurts. -
Syntrax Nectar. Delicious. It's not gritty, no after taste, no need to chug it down. I do recommend if you mix with water you dilute it more than 8 oz per scoop, but the ones mixed with milk are so good my 5 and 1 year old ask for it. And it was approved by my surgeon...

Help! How to get started!?
Aerohead21 replied to Debbie_downsizing's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It depends on if you are going through insurance or not. Insurance dictates what you can and can't do. My insurance didn't require PCP approval but that doesn't mean yours won't. After you find out what your insurance requires, sign up for seminars from various surgeons. They're generally free. Once you select a surgeon they will assign you a case manager who will keep you on track as to what steps are next. Good luck!! -

I had my surgery 3 days ago and my spleen was injured too. I'm telling you, the pain is excruciating. I keep reading and seeing how recovery isn't bad and you'll feel pretty good. Yeah NO!! I'm glad you found out about the muscle spasms. I'll have to keep that in mind.
