    Getting sleeved with PCOS

I had my surgery on February 16. At my follow-up appt on February 20 I had already lost 8 pounds. On my own, with the PCOS even that has been difficult!
  2. I was sleeved 8 days ago. I have always had a high pain tolerance, but not this time. The pain wasn't gas either. I am doing everything I am supposed to be. I was feeling a lot better two days ago and went for a half hour walk (my surgeon had told me to start with 5-10 minutes.). Since then I have had excruciating pain on my left side, right around one of the incision sites. When I move certain ways it feels as though something is tearing inside and/or as if I have major bruising inside. I had a follow up with my PCP yesterday and also spoke with my bariatric coordinator today. They both said that I probably just overdid it on my walk. My question is this. I read about so many people saying that they had no pain at all. Is there anyone out there who has experienced something similar to me? If so, how long did it last?

    Gym

I was told that I could do only walking for the first few weeks and that I could start everything else at one month out.

    4 days post opt!

I was sleeved on February 16th. I am already able to tolerate fluids better. However, I am still in horrible pain on my left side. I still take my pain meds at night and have to sleep in a recliner.
  5. I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow. I have been excited and still am. I don't think I feel nervous but I can't stop crying since yesterday. I am attributing this to starting my pre-op diet this week, as well as cutting out all caffeine. Did anyone else become very emotional for the day or two before surgery?

    Almost Surgery Time!

Good luck! I'm going tomorrow too. My check in is at 11:30 and my surgery is scheduled for 1:00!
  7. Go to the ER. Hopefully, it is nothing but at least you'll have peace of mind if you go.

    Dentist appointment?

I would ask your surgeon to tell you what to do.

    Getting sleeved with PCOS

I have PCOS as well and have tried to lose weigh for 30 years. My surgery is on Monday, so we'll see how it goes. My doctor said the weight loss will have a very positive effect on the insulin resistance.
  11. My surgeon told me that my job for the first two weeks was just to keep myself hydrated with Clear liquids. She said not to worry about Protein during those two weeks. Your body can go something like 21 days before becoming malnourished. However, you can quickly become dehydrated within a few days.
  12. To all of the teachers out there. How long did you stay out of work? Since we are on our feet all day and have to be "on" at all times, I am worried that I will be too weak for a while, especially during the liquids stage. What did you do?
  13. I cried all day today. The realization of what I am about to do is really kicking in. I also went to Mass and asked the priest to bless me, so I feel a bit better now.

    When can you take pills?

My surgeon told me that I can take my medicine (the pills are smaller in size) with small sips of water on the day after my surgery.
  16. I am scheduled for February 16 and am getting very nervous as well!
  17. Hello, I got approved by my insurance company earlier this week and am scheduled for surgery on February 16. Yesterday, I had my pre-op appointment with my PCP. Everything was fine and he cleared me for surgery. I have been so excited and felt as though I was mentally ready. All of a sudden, I am so nervous - not abut the surgery itself but about being able to do what I have to long term. I see a therapist every week and we are working on this. However, all I can think about right now is al the food that I will never be able to eat again. Is this normal? Any advice? Thanks!

    Teachers and Time Off

Thank you all for responding. I just received my date. It is February 16. I am off that week and will then take two more weeks.

    Scheduling/appointment worries

I have Aetna and just finished all of my appointments. I am just waiting for insurance approval now. The day after my first meeting with my surgeon, I called and scheduled all of the appointments on my own. None of the other doctors needed any paperwork from the surgeon before they would see me. I just asked them to fax all of their reports to my surgeon.
  20. I use Jay Robb. They are the o nay ones I can find. I know that there are some vegan ones out there as well.
  21. I had the same type of situation. I lost some weight by drinking a protein shake for breakfast, having another one for lunch and a piece of fruit, and a small dinner (eggs and toast or salad or vegetable soup). I didn't get all the weight off but I did lose enough for my surgeon to approve surgery. I am just waiting for insurance approval and should be having surgery mid-February .

    Any February Sleevers

I am having my surgery the week of February16th. On Monday they will give me my definite date!
  23. Would you consider making a list of three non-negotiables you need in terms of support from your fiancé and asking him to do the same? Then you could discuss it together and maybe have a better understanding of how to help each other. Sometimes we want to help our loved ones, but the way that we go about it is not a way in which they need it or can receive it. A dialogue about how you can be a support for him (and vice versa) might be all you need to open your lines of communication. On a separate note, I would like to address your financial situation. I know that you did not ask for our opinions on that, but I feel as though I have a responsibility to comment. In your story, i heard a lot about myself. I was married to (and am now divorced from) someone who I supported financially. We lived together before we were married and it started then. He had horrible credit and mine was great. I helped him pay off student loans, buy a car and further his education. I kept thinking that things would change. The more I tried to keep up with our bills, the more he spent. I left our marriage two years into it with over $100,000 of debt (most of which I never knew he had charged). In retrospect, I saw the signs before we were married and ignored them. I am urging you to look at the whole picture. We don't know your relationship; only you do. "To thy own self be true." I wish you and your fiancé the best of luck.

    TAKING ORAL MEDS POST-OP

I have not had my surgery yet but am waiting for approval. I had my pre-op meeting with my surgeon yesterday and she said that I would be able to take all of my smaller pills with small sips of liquid. I would advise checking with your doctor.

    Penny is Back

I watched that too. She makes me so angry. She was given this gift of another chance and she is just taking it for granted. And her husband just makes matters worse!
