I lost 40 or 50 pounds before I really started seeing it in the mirror and it pictures. I think you just need to lose a little more and you will really start seeing it.

Sleeping Positions, Black&Blue marks,& Chills
Totallytater replied to Rosie15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely froze the first 1-1/2 weeks after my surgery and that was weird for me. I slept in a recliner for about a week. I felt like a recliner was an absolutely needed item. Bruising is normal too, just not heat and redness. Good luck to you. -
I would be sure to share all of his contact info with the credit collectors who are after you. But don't give them an of his work phone numbers because you don't want him to lose his job (and insurance and garnishments). They will harass anyone they can get hold of, so I would certainly let them. Good luck to you and your daughter. I believe there is a special place in h _ _ _ for people like your husband.

Backing out and saying my thankyous
Totallytater replied to Chiquita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It doesn't matter how you get there, only that you get there. Good luck!!!!! -
I could not have driven the day of surgery. I could have driven the day after surgery if I had stopped the pain meds the night before. But I was in a good deal of pain until about 24 hours after the surgery so I needed my pain meds. I begged my sister to stay another night in the hotel because I wasn't ready to fly home yet (but she made me go home anyway). I think you should have a backup plan.

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Part Two Dr. Kirshenbaum
Totallytater replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
brandymom, No I don't have a problem with you posting it on the other board. I have really been confused about this issue because the non-Dr K posters act like your stomach is going to explode (ha ha) if you eat something non-liquid and this is just not the message I got from Dr K's office. -
Does $17,000 Seem too High for this surgery??????
Totallytater replied to JaxFab44's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I flew to Denver and had mine for just under $10,000. Very legitimate surgeon who has tons of lap surgery experience of all types. Has done lots of lap bands too. I think he has had patients fly in from almost every state. You only have to fly in once, but I am actually going to fly in for my fills for the 1st year, then I will get a fill doctor locally. Good luck. -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Part Two Dr. Kirshenbaum
Totallytater replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi all. I have been reading all the new posts on the whole lapbandtalk forum for a few days. It really freaks me out to see that other surgeons require 4 and 5 weeks of liquid diet after the surgery. And people will flame you big time if you post anything to the contrary. They say you will ruin your band if you eat this, and this, and this. I talked to Natalie about 5 days after my surgery and just casually mentioned that I was hungry and she said I could go ahead and advance my diet as I felt comfortable. I read on Dr K's website that he wants a day or two of clear liquid, then add soups and protein shakes through day 5 then advance slowly and finally go to soft foods for the "immature lap band" (meaning before 1st fill). Dr K's info seems to indicate the goal is not to vomit. But other than that, as long as we advance the diet slowly- WE CAN ADVANCE THE DIET. What is going on with all of these other people saying only liquids for 4 or 4 weeks? Am I going to ruin my band by eating mushy foods and soft foods within the first month? -
Wow. This preop diet is something else.

My doc didn't require a liquid diet at all. Just no bread, no rice, no pasta, no potatoes. -
Drowning in a Liquid Diet
Totallytater replied to MovinForward's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's weird how different all of the diet requirements are. My surgeon only requires a day or so of clear liquids, then add on soups and protein shakes through day 5. Then full liquids (yogurt, oatmeal, and regular foods in blender, etc), then when you are ready go on to "soft foods". His concern is that we don't vomit. As long as we don't vomit (and aren't going hog wild I suppose) he is pretty lenient. Some surgeons seem to want 4 or 5 weeks of liquids. Isn't it strange how different the requirements are? -
Has anyone deducted your lapband at TAX time?
Totallytater replied to PigsRFlying's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I will be using this deduction myself!! -

Nutritionally imbalanced? Be honest
Totallytater replied to juliegeraci's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Honestly, I don't drink or eat protein as I should and I'm sure it will catch up with me real soon. I tend to eat soups and junkie stuff like chicken pot pies. I have to do better. I am losing weight, but probably losing muscle too. -
I had lost 50 pounds on my own and hit a plateau. Month after month I just stayed at the same weight. I started losing hope and a couple of pounds crept back on, and I knew I had to do something different or I would be right back where I started.

Size 12 jeans. That's incredible. I would be walking on air to shop in regular sizes again. I hope I can too in about a year or so. You go girl!

What foods keep you full longest?
Totallytater replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Grits are good too. Quaker makes these multipack boxes of instant grits that are cheese flavored, ham flavored, butter flavored etc. These are really good. I love grits! -
I had it tonight. I had a small piece of lemony pound cake moistened with milk and it was tremendously good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was worth the wait. I won't do it too often but I can assure you I will enjoy it when I do have it.

OMG! There's a dent in my stomach? Anyone else?
Totallytater replied to Anyalee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the dent too. -
I specifically asked this question too as I am a bath person. I was told to wait until I went back to see the doctor at one month so he could take a look at the incisions first.

I just want to share with the ladies something I have learned about dressing. I lost 50 pounds before my surgery and I went from a 26 to a 20. To avoid buying so much expensive clothing, I started buying really cute (and somethimes flashy) inexpensive necklace and earring sets and sometimes bracelets. Then I would wear cheap V-neck 3/4 sleeve t-shirts from Jessica London and JCPenney on sale. Sometimes I would get them for $6 or $7. The 3/4 length sleeve makes the t-shirt look dressier and the jewelry makes you look put together too. Then you can still wear the jewelry from one size to the next ,you just have to buy some more cheap T-shirts and pants. You always look nicely dressed and it works from size to size.

I'm planning on having a small amount of pound cake at my family's Christmas dinner but I'm going to moisten it with some milk. Looking forward to it. Yummy!

I think it takes several fills to get real restriction. Don't be so hard on yourself and go get a fill.

Rochelle, You're doing great. I've only lost 9 pounds in the same timeframe.

Just a bunch of random whininess and complaints
Totallytater replied to jewelee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The smell of unjury makes me want to hurl so much that it almost derailed the start of my post-op diet. Luckily I switched and could go on. You might want to try some different drinks. -
