Chewing & Spitting
Totallytater replied to lapbandliz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chewing and Spitting is a sign of an eating disorder. However, I do it very occassionally, and I don't have an eating disorder. Once every couple of weeks I get hot McDonalds french fries and I stand over the garbage can and dunk them in ketchup, chew them and spit them out. They are SOOOO good. I can't swallow french fries. That is a guaranteed stuck food for me. They used to be my favorite food and this way I can taste them and not have to swallow them. But you can't chew and spit often because I understand it will cause digestive problems. Your body primes up and releases everything it needs to digest food and then it doesn't get the food. I guess that does something negative. -
I wanted to share the weirdest thing that keeps happening to me. I have lost approx 90 pounds. I see people now that I haven't seen for a little while, a year, 6 months, whatever. Even though I have known them for years, they don't know who I am. I start talking to them and something will ring a bell and then they say "I know who you are now". I don't know what to think about it. I have become someone new. Is that really good or really bad?

How soon can you eat after a fill?
Totallytater replied to littlefroggy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I eat immediately after my fill. I fly in for my fills so I immediately go to the hospital cafeteria and eat the chunkiest soup they have. I make sure I can get it down before I get on the plane and fly home. -
Good for you! Congrats! You look so great. I hope to join you there in target weight land someday.

I'm at the end of my rope
Totallytater replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be sure you're not eating too many easy foods (like milk shakes, ice cream, pudding, etc). I tend to do that and don't lose like I should. -
Another patient of Dr Kirshenbaum here. No pre-testing. Just one trip to Denver is all it takes.

November Surgery Date-Dr. K in Denver!!!
Totallytater replied to allymb22282's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I flew long-distance for surgery with Dr K too. He is great and people fly in from all over the US (and Canada) for him. I have never regretted going to him for a second. Good luck!! -
What is the least expected item I will need right after surgery or in the hospital?
Totallytater replied to Cassy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cassy, Hi. I flew to Dr K for surgery too. He is great!! I flew out the morning after my surgery, but I should have stayed 2 nights. You should stay 2 nights after surgery. Stay somewhere with a recliner. You will need it. My surgery was in Aurora and I stayed at the Best Western Gateway. They have recliners. They also have a refrigerator for your medicine and a microwave to warm up some broth. Let me know if you have any questions. -
self-pay people in NC - how much??
Totallytater replied to jmegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I flew to Aurora, Colorado (Denver) and Dr. Kirshenbaum did my surgery for just under $10,000 for everything. You only have to make one trip too, but I fly back and forth for fills. His fills are free for 3 months, then they are only $15 each. So I can fly to Denver for about the same price as a local fill. Dr K is fantastic and I have never regretted having him do my surgery. -
Anyone have any NC or SC plastic surgery prices?
Totallytater posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Anyone know about plastic surgery prices in NC or SC? Or has anyone had plastic surgery and will share their prices. I'm trying to find someone reasonable and good of course. I think I will need lower body lift including tummy tuck, inner thigh, arms, breast lift with implants, and maybe the bra roll too. Thanks. I called Charlotte Plastic Surgery and they said about $22,500 (including hospital fees) for one surgery that took care of breasts, lower body lift with tummy tuck. Then one surgery for $22,500 (including hospital fees) that takes care of inner thigh, arms and bra roll. That's too high for me. Do you have any other ideas? I would travel a few hours away if needed. -
Did you let him take the viagra with him? I would've flushed it right down the toilet.

I like Curves very much. I am very, very lazy about exercising and it is perfect for me. I was a member for a year and I was tired of it. I joined a regular gym and I hated it. At the regular gym each machine required you to set 2 or 3 things on it. I did not like remembering and setting all of that stuff. So I quit and went back to Curves. You don't have to set a thing on the machines. You are in and out in 35 minutes. So fast I don't even mind it.

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Concerns about Kirshenbaum?
Totallytater replied to lapbandliz's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I will tell you why Dr K's patients LOVE him so much: For so many patients that don't have insurance or their insurance excludes WLS, Dr K is an affordable option here in the US. With Dr K, you can have surgery in the comfort and safety of the good 'ole USA. It is important to Dr K that people have another option other than going to Mexico. For under $10,000, Dr. K has a package that includes everything you need except your travel expenses for the one trip to Denver. Now, beyond the basic economics of using Dr K when you don't have insurance, there are more great things about him. He is FANTASTIC!!! I had a concern (that was nothing) on a Saturday and I paged him. He called me 1 minute later to help me. He called in a prescription and he called me back the next day (on a Sunday) to check on me. I have NEVER had another doctor (much less a surgeon) care about me in that way. And you ought to have seen my incisions. They were perfect. This guy really knows what he's doing. He is one of the most experienced laproscopic surgeons in Colorado. He does many lapbands, but he also does other abdominal surgeries (gall bladder removals, hernia repairs and the like). Sure his office is not fancy, but it is clean and perfectly fine with me. The surgical center he uses is very nice too. His staff is as nice as they can be. They are very considerate about working with me when I fly in for fills, and my plane is late. He is also an excellent fill doctor. He really has a good touch with fills. I can't say enough good things about him. I'm sorry you had a bad feeling about him, but I have more information than "just a feeling". I have a 10 month relationship with him and his office and I couldn't be more pleased. I just couldn't possibly be more pleased. Good luck with your surgery. I hope you will be as pleased with yours as I am with mine. -
Are We Ready For A Woman VP?
Totallytater replied to Daisalana's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes! Love this gal! She is the perfect woman, 5 kids (1 special needs), hunts, fishes, full-time job (as governor) and very beautiful. I don't know how she does it, but I really admire her. I have not been involved in an election campaign in many years, but I will certainly be volunteering to campaign for this dynamic duo. Go McCain/Palin!!! -
Got 'stuck' yesterday, now nothing will go down, need urgent advice pls!
Totallytater replied to juliatabor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would stimulate my gag reflex just to make sure you have everything up out of your stomach that you can get out. Then I would just not eat for a day or two. Just drink protein shakes until the swelling goes down inside. You can drink can't you? If you can't drink then you will have to get medical attention. But if you can drink, just do the protein shakes for a couple of days and I think things will probably calm down. Good luck. -
with NO insurance, what does this thing actually cost???
Totallytater replied to jmegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are making a great choice with Dr. K. I also flew from NC (Charlotte) to Denver for my surgery with Dr. K. I also fly back and forth to Denver for the $15 fills (but you get the first 3 months of fills free) because I feel Dr. K is worth it. He is incredible. -
Still hungry and no restrictions
Totallytater replied to yolandacrosby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could eat like crazy until I got three fills (i.e. proper restriction). Now I can't eat much at all. You will have to wait until you get some fills to notice much difference. -
Assuming your fill is not too tight, you will be fine. Just make sure you can get in to see the fill doctor the day after your fill. You should know by then whether it is too tight or not. I fly to my original surgeon to get my fill. I have to take 2 flights totaling about 4 hours to get home. Sometimes I fly 3 or 4 hours after I get my fill. Sometimes I sightsee and I fly home a day or two later. Either way, the flying is fine. You just get a little tighter so you have to be more careful for a few days.

How exciting!!!! Blessings on both of you!!

Hi. Net carb means carbs minus dietary fiber. The dietary fiber offsets the carb load. For my protein shakes I use Slim Fast Low Carb in Chocolate. They have 20g of protein and 2 gram net carb. I often drink them 2 at a time since the carbs are so low.

How to Avoid Loose Skin After Surgery
Totallytater replied to whippoorwillow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't want to have loose skin you should be young and not have too much weight to lose (LOL) -
I can't eat french fries anymore even though they are my favorite food. Every now and again (maybe once a month), I get some hot fries with ketchup and I chew a few mouthfuls and spit it out before I swallow. I hate to admit this, because this chew and spit behavior is a sign of an eating disorder. I don't have an eating disorder, but I just want to taste fries here and there.
