I am 5 days post op and noticed that I have been having cold sweats and just sweaty in general when I am up and moving about. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I don't know if it is just a post surgery thing, blood sugar, pain response or what. I don't seem to be experiencing a lot of pain but I know that my body has been through a whole lot and even if I am not feeling a lot of pain that my body has taken quite a beating. I don't have a fever either. thanks for your time! hope everyone is healing well

I am still taking pain meds. It doesn't seem to happen all of the time when I'm up and moving so I am starting to think it's more when I haven't eaten (drank) much but continuing to watch and rule things out. Glad to hear I'm not the only one though

insurance approved without issue, and surgery is scheduled for Monday June 20! I am excited, and nervous, but mostly excited. I only plan on taking a week off of work so I hope everything goes as planned. anyone else having surgery the same time?

@@heleneval I sent you a friend request too -
once upon a time, I was quite athletic. I was a runner into my 20's but then stopped as I let other things take priority. I have wanted to get back into running forever but just haven't been able to do it. I played on a women's over 30 soccer team for a couple years but I couldn't really get into good physical shape. I tried starting up running again, doing the couch to 5k and things like that but in the past few years it seems like my body just couldn't handle it. I would have shin splits so bad after starting that I would have to quit and even after taking long breaks from running if I tried to start up my shins would hurt as though I had never stopped. I believe that the excess weight that I am carrying is a lot of the reason for the pain, if not all of the reason. I am wondering if anyone has dealt with similar issues before surgery and if that has changed since having surgery and losing weight.
-
I do have over-pronation and have insoles that were made for me. I have always had issues with over-pronation so I always make sure that I have appropriate shoes. I dealt with shin splints when I was younger and ran daily but at that time it was tolerable to keep running and just ice them. But more recently the pain is much worse, and doesn't ease once I stop running, to the point that my shins are sore to the touch. I went through PT for a while but I think that a big part of the problem is the amount of weight I am carrying. I do hope to be able to run again so I will see in the next few months how my weight loss goes

That's great! I hope I can get on the same track. I really miss it

Thankfully I have always done strength training, even as I have gained weight. It is what I switched to because I couldn't handle running anymore. And I've tried several new pairs of shoes, even had a PT review my gait and tell me the best type and so on but nothing helped

I am a little later than everyone else, July 20 for me. I am surprised how much the pre-diet requirements vary. I only have to do an all liquid diet (any liquid, not just clear) for 2 days before surgery and my post op diet is liquid for 2 weeks. I am so excited though. What is something that you are excited to do once you have lost weight? For me, I can't wait to play soccer again! -
so, I am just starting this journey and with my insurance, I will have to participate in a weight loss program for 6 months. With that, it will be mid-July once I finish the supervised program and then I assume I will have to wait for approval from the insurance company. Anyone have to participate in this long of a program? how long after you completed it did you have to wait for the actual approval and surgery? I have to admit that I have contemplated self pay rather than having to wait what sounds like it will be a year but I don't know that I can afford it. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated thanks

how long of a wait on insurance? Priority health?

well I have done my 6 months of supervised diet. I have done all the labs, tests and so on. I had my last diet appointment on 6/18 and I am scheduled for my "final surgical consult" on 7/2. However, the doc informed me on 6/18 that they would be sending my information to the insurance company for approval following that appointment and it is possible that they could schedule my surgery at my 7/2 appointment if it has been approved. I have priority health (HMO) and was curious if anyone had experience with them and how long it took for approval (or if other insurance, how long it took also). thanks everyone -

Weird/worst Comment at Pre-op testing!

I went for my clearance from my family doctor and he asked me how much weight I hoped to lose, and I told him my goal. He then said "well most people only lose a small amount of weight, less than 10% of their current weight." He didn't fuss about giving me clearance or discourage (specifically) getting it done, but it felt like he was trying to. -
Only my husband and one friend know that I am planning on the surgery. My friend struggles with her weight also but is scared to get any type of WLS. She is heavier than I am and has said a couple times "you don't even need it, you aren't that overweight." She says she would be happy to be my size. I think that the main reason she doesn't want surgery is fear and nothing else. I just wish people understood that a BMI of 35 is approved for good reason, it is obese. It may not be what people think of when they think of WLS but my opinion is that if I don't do it now, I will be what they think of. Also, if I thought that I could do it without the surgery, I would in a heartbeat but it is obvious that doing it on my own hasn't worked!

I recently had C-Diff. It was pretty horrible. I was treated with four antibiotics in a few weeks for kidney, bladder and tooth infections. For 2 weeks I was on 2 different antibiotics at the same time. I dealt with the C-diff for 3 weeks with various trips to ER for IV fluids. I was also diagnosed with Ileus after about a week and a half with the C-diff. I was on Flagyl and pain meds for a few weeks. Even when I started to get better, it took another week and a half before I was actually eating anything.

I am just starting this process and am not really telling people. I have my husbands support and am not concerned with that but I expect a lot of people would be negative about it (because they have been with other people getting surgery for weight loss). So, wondering if you were someone that told others or just kept it to a few people. I don't want to deal with the judgement and have to say I am concerned when I start to actually lose weight that people are either going to start asking 20 questions or making the assumption. Just curious what other's experiences have been . thanks

I have decided to tell my husband and I told one friend that I work with. The person that I told at work isn't even someone I have known the longest but she is someone that also struggles with her weight and someone that I find trustful. I don't feel comfortable telling my family really because the person that I am closest to is my grandma who is 87 and she really wouldn't understand. The rest of my family really has no interest anyway. I appreciate hearing everyone's situation, it is so helpful to hear from people who have gone through it or are in a similar situation. I appreciate those that tell everyone and educate others, because I think it really is inspiring and helps others

actually my insurance company goes by your BMI each time you are seen. So, my BMI has to stay above 35 during my supervised diet program or I will no longer be eligible. Which really sucks. I can't work on changing my lifestyle much for the next 6 months because if I lose much weight I will drop below 35. As it is my BMI is 36.2
