Post op gas and pain
billitant replied to gamecockfan864's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope you are feeling better today. I can't take dilaudid at all. It causes extreme motion sickness and vomiting. During this hospital experience, morphine did the same thing. I didn't start feeling better until I got on liquid hydrocodone. It's really rough in the beginning. It really does get better. But I'm still in the thick of it as well. Stayed home from work today because of severe nausea. Came out of no where! I'm 3 weeks post-op. Thought I'd be over that by now. Good news is that, yesterday, I wore a pair of 12-year-old pants to work that I haven't been able to fit into in ages. I mention this only to encourage you to keep your eye on the prize!!! -
How do I eat 3 "meals"/day AND drink 80 oz of fluid/day?
billitant posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Gastric Sleeve Pals! I really need some pointers on how to improve my consumption. I am in the middle of week 3 post op. I am supposed to be eating three pureed meals per day, 2 dairy and pureed fruit Snacks per day, AND drinking 80 oz of Fluid per day. I am not allowed to drink 10 minutes before eating, 20 minutes during eating, and 1 hour after eating. So HOW ON EARTH am I supposed to get all of this eating done when I still have to drink 80 oz of fluid per day?!? And the dairy snacks pose a real problem thanks to my new found lactose intolerance. The most fluid I've been able to drink in a day is 65 oz. The most food is 2 meals and 1 snack. I get all of my Protein in because I put protein in my fluids. However, I think my body is going into ketosis because I feel TERRIBLE and my weight has not dropped at all since the end of week 1. Not even after adding 30 minutes of cardio/day. I feel dizzy, extremely tired, mentally and physically uncoordinated. I struggle with simple math in my head (I am a financial analyst - NOT GOOD!). HELP!!!! -

Thank you! I am going to have a talk with the nutritionist very soon. I am determined to have success at my weight loss. I am going to ask the nutritionist about the not drinking 30 minutes before and after, rather than the instructions I've been given. It seems to amount to the same amount of time overall, but I think the 30 before and after is an easier way to manage it. -
Cheated and now I'm paying for it.

Reality check! You are NOT being selfish. And I'm sorry to say that your significant other sounds like a major jack@ss. My husband didn't want me to carry my purse until I weighed it in front of him to prove that it weighed less than 15 lbs. There are better love experiences in the world and you deserve one of them. So, YES! Deal with your trigger in a healthier way. But PLEASE don't forget to deal with what is causing the trigger in the first place. No one deserve's to have their health disregarded in this way. Certainly not you! -
I haven't done anything right

I want you to be encouraged that you absolutely CAN do this! I got out of the hospital on 12/22/15 and on 12/25/15 I was cooking Christmas dinner for my family. This included broccoli casserole, maple bacon brussle sprouts, and fried turkey. There was a pan of my mother's amazing cornbread dressing tempting me on the counter. I couldn't eat any of it. But I still had to feed my husband and daughter! It was hard and I did cry once, but I got through it! Later on in that week, I helped my daughter prepare, bake, and package up like 5 lbs of candied pecans for gifts. I didn't eat one of them! This was a bit easier because I had already worked through the Christmas experience. For the next challenge, I cooked homemade brocolli cheese Soup for the family. It was absolutely delicious...so I heard. I did dip my spoon in and use my finger to taste a drop. I thought it was fantastic. But I couldn't eat any of it! So be it! I haven't cooked for the family since the brocolli cheese challenge. There's plenty of left overs, so they are on their own for now. But this won't last forever. Next week I will probably be baking porkchops, steaming vegetables, and baking corn bread. I will puree a lean porkchop for myself along with a soft vegetable and we'll be done. If I can do it, you can do it! I'm just as addicted to food as anyone else here!!! -
Post op help needed - hunger
billitant replied to bobbyswife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I'm reading here is very different from my instructions. I was instructed not to drink ANYTHING 10 minutes before I ate, while I ate, and 1 hour afterward. I was warned that drinking while eating will flush the food into the small intestine too quickly and result in excess hunger too quickly. I've followed these instructions religiously and have experienced very little hunger between meals. I can get very hungry prior to meals, but then I eat 2.5 oz of pureed food and I'm perfectly fine for hours. Has anyone else been instructed NOT to eat and drink at the same time??? -
Post op gas and pain

I had a LOT of gas post-op, and I still get it. Luckily for me, it doesn't really hurt and passes easily. Still, I chew 2 extra strength GasX tablets 2 x daily when the gas is out of control and it works very well. Also, I am newly lactose intolerant. If I drink an 8 oz glass of milk, I will have terrible gas and flatulence for 24 hours! 4 oz of yogurt? Flatulent for 3 hours! What are you eating/drinking? Could you no longer be tolerant of foods you easily consumed previously? -
Please recommend an unflavored protein powder
billitant replied to Superfluous's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am using Isopure unflavored with great success. What you must remember is that unflavored does NOT EQUAL flavorless! You have to mix the unflavored Protein into something with flavor like chicken or vegetable broth or a sugar, free flavored drink mix. I've used it with no sugar added hot chocolate and I've mixed it in with pureed fruit to make a protein puree. -
week 1 post op weight loss...
billitant replied to melissa'sjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I just had my surgery on 12/19. At week one (1) I had lost between 13 and 15 lbs. I was a bit shocked. At week two (2) I have GAINED about 0 to 3 lbs! I am totally PO'd. I was 278 at surgery and today I weighed at 265. I think that the first week after the surgery can give you a dramatic loss, and then your body struggles to figure out what is going on and try to regulate your system. I am at the beginning of week 3. I joined a gym yesterday and will be attending for the first time today after work. I am not eating pureed scrambled eggs and drinking Protein Water all day for the scale to go any direction but down. I am hoping that regular cardio will help this thing along a little better.
