Just realised that you are very close to being banded. Good luck, I know you won't regret it. saleel22

Good on your wife for getting the new job. Things will start to look better for you both now. All the best. saleel22

Hi Lucymae, You usually need another fill if you are getting hungry a lot. Somedays I feel this way and other days I am satisfied. I think it depends on what you are eating as well. I can't believe how much you have to pay for a fill. As part of the package I paid for I get fills for the first year for $10 and then I think they will be about $30. I can't see how they can justify so much when it is for a needle and some sterile water, that's a rip off. I know others here in Australia don't even pay it is claimable through the Medicare fund. Just depends on your Dr. Good luck. Saleel22

Hi MissVicki, How did your first fill go. I hope everything went smoothly. My last one has certainly given me a lot more restriction. I thought I was chewing well and eating slowly before but obviously not enough. Had a bit of toast stuck last night. Not very nice and I am a little sore in the chest today so have decided to stay on fluids for today. Hope things are all good with you. Saleel22

Hi Kathy, As long as you start to do some exercise you will find that you will start to lose. It does get easier to exercise as you start loseing and that is then enough encouragement to keep going. If you don't do any as yet just start out slow and build up. I know all about the thro's of menopause as well. Not fun!! lol. Hopefully it doesn't last forever. Good luck with your weight loss. Hi Florida Pete, Sorry to hear about your troubles. Things always have a way of working themselves out even when we can't see how. Your wife will get another job I'm sure. Go ahead with your surgery and be positive about it. Things will then start looking better. Good luck to you both. Stay positive. saleel22

Hi Indiogirl55, I don't write often but always read the posts and just wanted to say that you look wonderful. You have inspired me since I was banded back in January this year. Thanks for that. Saleel22

Hi Mimie, I would suggest you speak to both your lapband surgeon and the Dr doing your reconstruction so they can decide what is best for you. They might want to confer with each other beforehand. Good luck with your surgery. Saleel22

Sorry I could have converted it for you but I sometimes forget which way to do it. I had a fill today and have just gotten home. I have been drinking water all day and my stomach/throat sounds like a drainpipe gurgling. I had an appontment with the Psychiatrist which is part of the package we have and all I did for an hour was make gurgle sounds. She assured me she couldn't hear it. I think she was being polite as she is lovely. I hope your fill goes well next week. Just make sure you can drink slowly but easily before you leave the Drs to make sure you aren't too tight. Keep in touch. Saleel22

Hi KarenG, Wow!! Congratulations you look great. Thank you for being brave enough to put your photos on here. I have lost 25 kilos (55lbs) since January and have a very saggy stomach. I now think I might consider a TT when I have lost the rest of my weight. I hope you are feeling wonderful. You should. Saleel22 -
First fill is tomorrow and I'm a little rattled...
saleel22 replied to ReadyInCT's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi ReadyInCt, Don't worry about your fill. It isn't that bad. I have had a couple of fills and am due to have one tomorrow. You don't feel any thing other than a very little sting when the needle goes in. They usually get you to drink some water slowly to make sure you haven't got too much fill. If you have trouble drinking tell them. It's not worth going home with too much fill as you won't be able to swallow. Just remember to eat slowly. My Dr has us go onto fluids for 24-48 hours after a fill in case of any swelling and then mushies for 24-48 hours then onto a normal diet. I hope this has helped and not freaked you out. It really is simple as you will see after the first one. All the best. saleel22 -
Hi Miss Vicky, I'm not a close neighbour but Australia isn't that far away.lol I have been banded since January and have lost about 25 kilos. It sounds like you are on the right track with your weight loss so far. Keep up the good work. I have found that I do have to exercise regularly to get the weight moving. I am off tomorrow to get another fill. I have been very hungry the last couple of weeks so it is time. Keep in touch and let us know how you are going. Saleel22

Hi Gwen, I usually take 100mgs of Thyroxine daily. I had a routine blood test last week and for the first time in years found that I am now taking too much. My Dr has prescribed alternate nights taking 1, 100mg and on the next night 50mg. I'm not really sure how long I have to do this for though as I didn't speak to her directly. I don't think my metabolism has sped up though. I am going for a fill next week as I am very hungry. It may have something to do with it. Wouldn't it be great to have a really fast metabolism? Hi T, Don't let the nerves get the better of you. We all go through the anxiety beforehand. I was done in January and have lost 25 kilos. I don't regret it one bit. Exercise is a big part of it though. I can eat anything as long as I take my time. I'm sure you won't regret your decision. Read every thing you can but don't fixate on all the bad stuff as most people don't post unless they have a problem. You usually don't hear from most of the ones without a problem (like me). Good luck on the beginning of your new (thinner, heathier) life. Saleel22

Hi Redhood007, I would tell the woman in your office to politely put a sock in it. This is your band and it is up to you who you tell. I find the more someone offers me cake or biscuits the stronger my resolve is not to eat it. It is only if I have it in my house that I have a problem with things like that. Keep up the good work. saleel22

Hi GonBehealthy, Don't despair, just remember this is something for you. I didn't tell any one other than my husband and I was banded back in January. I had planned to maybe tell my kids at a later date but now I don't feel the need to explain. I think if it was another op we wouldn't feel the need to tell everyone, would we? As you have already told people and aren't getting any support from them, I wouldn't mention it to them again. Just read every thing you can and get the knowledge you need to help yourself. I feel that I have worked really hard with exercise since being banded that people would think I have lost weight easily if I told them about the band. Just keep your spirits up and be glad that your main support (husband) is on side with you as that helps. Good luck with your surgery. How soon is it? saleel22

Hi MH2010, I was banded on the 16th Jan.08. I have about 8mls in my band and can eat any foods including steak grilled or done on the BBQ. I try not to eat too much meat though as it does sit heavy on my stomach. Mince is fine though. This was a problem I had even before the band. Just remember to eat a little slower and chew harder things a little more than you would have before. Good luck with your banding journey. Saleel22

I have this problem all the time. I have the e-mail notification turned on but I seem to get a couple one day then nothing for a couple of days. It's a bit strange. Saleel22

Since my band I see a physician that does my fills. He works with the surgeon as well. He is a natropath as well as other things and ordered a lot of tests for me. He has put me on some caps. called Gluco-support that I take with each meal to help with the insulin. I have found out that I have a dairy, wheat and soy intolerance so I was fighting a losing battle with weight loss before. He also ordered a stack of caps. from the US from the Health Institute for me that are packed with vitamins. I had low Iron, Magnesium, Zinc and too much copper, oestrogon and insulin. I take heaps of caps. but it will only be for a couple of months to get everything working again. I have heaps more energy so something must be working. I am just lucky that this man was employed by the Bariatric surgery to do these tests on lap banders to help diagnose any problems. Good luck seeing your Dr today. Yes a fatty liver can be helped by diet. Saleel22

Hi Ladytuscanny, Thanks for putting that link in. I have just read it and it was very interesting. I was told my sugar levels were normal and my insulin levels were sky high. I found it a very good read. Thanks. Saleel22

Hi all January Bandsters,I was banded on the 16th Jan. I have 7 1/2 mls in my band. I can eat anything. I was told to eat protein for breakfast instead of my normal cereal. Most of the time I have cereal though but I find I am fuller longer with eggs or baked beans. I have a salad or leftovers from the night before for lunch and either chicken or meat and sometimes fish for dinner with vegs. I try to have some fruit somewhere during the day as well. I was also told not to have any protein drinks after the surgery as the Dr and dietician wanted us to eat every day foods. I am walking the dog twice a day and using the treadmill for 1/2 an hour and sometimes the eliptical trainer as well. Working harder than ever before. Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey. Saleel22

Hi Tapshoes, I don't flip my pillow (often) but I am with you with the foot out of the bed though. When it gets cold I pull it in then it's back out again. You are not alone. Saleel22

New Jersey - Step One
saleel22 replied to supersize2bbw's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi supersize2bbw, Good for you for going to the seminar. Find out as much as you can before you decide anything. I can only comment on the lap band because that is what I have. I was banded in January and I have lost 1kilo a week since then. A bit slower than some. I opted for this though because it isn't permanent if for some unknown reason it has to come out. The next step would be the bypass. I figure if you start with the bypass there isn't any where else to go. They say bypass has a quicker weight loss to start with but then it evens out within about a year. Don't be afraid of the extra skin, it can be tucked in(lol). Good luck to you on whatever you decide to do. Read as much on these forums that you can and don't think all the rest of us weren't really scared about this decision as well. I don't regret having this done. I wasn't a very big eater before but I still couldn't lose weight even with exercise, now I can see results. I am now a believer. All the best. Saleel22 -
New Lap-Bander from Texas
saleel22 replied to a173601's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi a173601, You sound like you were done before you had time to think about it. Don't think you won't be able to eat all the things you enjoy. I was banded in January and had 6ml already in my band then have had 2 fills so now a total of 7 1/2 mls. I still eat a small meal with no problems at all. I love rice and even when it is a bit dry can still eat it. Funnily enough though the one thing that gives me a bit of pain is bananas. My dietician thought that was a bit unusual. I think because they are soft, I mustn't chew it enough and it gives me a heavy feeling for a little while in my chest. Good luck on your journey with the band. Saleel22
