Insurance denied me :/

Yes everyone is correct don't give up. File a Stage I Appeal. Call them and have them send you a letter which by law must cite the specific denial reason verbiage. Some doctors don't fight hard enough on your behalf so you may need to include your own letter of appeal. I had to it and wrote a letter and gave it to my doctor to resubmit with their packet. In it I quoted their reason denying it with reasons to grant it. Have a nutritionist or dr express that your fluctuations in weight are cause for concern and that you are at risk of increasing bmi because you are on the cusp. Make sure everything reflects your unsuccessfulness in maintains weight loss n control. The practitioner that approves/denies these procedures uses opinion but it is supposed to corroborate with facts. Yours sounds more like an opinion. So be sure in your letter to fight fire with fire and mandate that they reassess your situation based on facts based on criteria not opinion. It will work out for you just be ready for the battle. I was getting ready go for my third appeal letter and was sleeved finally last Monday. By the way on each appeal letter write out something asking them to review urgently. If you don't they will make you wait the full turn around time in between each stage with can be from 20-90 days depending on insurance. Good luck! -

Hey Deb I was sleeved in 5/18/15 and I suffer from anxiety. I was very upfront with my nurses before they started prep work and asked them to talk with me about things that would make me happy if they sensed my tension. They spoke about my children and summer approaching. Also ask for someone light handed to do the IV with a gentle touch. The anesthesiologist came and spoke to me before taken to the op room and I also told him about my anxiety and he explained that the nurses can call him as soon as I am in the op room and he can give me something right away for anxiety. I had even asked that they don't robe my glasses under I was actually asleep - and they said ok. Sure enough when I got on the table I felt the anxiety coming on and the anesthesiologist came and started talking to me. He asked how old were my kids and their names and told me to take deep breaths. I don't even remember answering him passed the second of my four kids. I woke up in recovery. I say this to say just be honest that day with your team - your "new BFF's" I called them. They can help you if you communicate with them. I was happy the IV was in place so that he could quickly deliver what my body needed to calm down and go to sleep. I understand how scary it is believe me. We are here for you! Talk yourself through and inhale exhale. I hope my experience helped even a little bit. Can't wait for your update post op.

Hey doll, I hope all went well with surgery. I had the sleeve on Monday 5/18. Still sore but walking a bit better today. I feel like I am hungry but sure if it's in my head or not. I tried after over a decade of separation with my husband to work it out and wound up feeling stressed and unsupported so I left. I was 263 day of surgery. My kids know something's wrong and I was in hospital and they are supportive but I still feel too embarrassed to tell them the truth about my surgery. It'll get better for us all I believe that. One day at a time step by step. I'm struggling today because I know I low liquid intake and I just don't like water at all. Not sure what to try to ease hunger and satisfy thirst.

Band to Sleeve...what was the worst pain post-op?
chubbykinsnomore replied to AFmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the port and band removed in October of 2014. I had no pain. The site from the incisions were a little tender to the touch for about 2 days but that was all. I was prescribed Percocet upon discharge to which I never even filled or needed. It was a same day procedure, I was kept overnight for observation only because my blood pressure dropped immensely after I got home from when it was first put in three years prior. After the removal I was up and back to normal activity in no time, no real pain at all and the tenderness was completely gone in about a full week. So tender to touch about 2 days - complete tenderness gone in about 7 days. At no point was I unable to be my normal self as far as day to day activities but I restrained from lifting heavy things just because the incisions were held together with adhesions (tape). I am now on my way to having the sleeve hopefully within the next few months. I will keep my page updated.
