  1. Since all those who have commented on this page either were having or had surgery about the same time as I did. I am checking in to see how we all are doing? I am down 41 lbs as of last Thurs. for my 2 mo. post-op. Still have another 117 lbs to go to reach my goal, so down one size in clothes, off half my insulin and half my blood pressure dosage, and now can walk with a cane instead of my walker for most stuff. I feel great, only have had a few "dumping" incidents and they are mild, lower abdominal cramping and then diarrhea only. It teaches me though each time it happens. My nutritionist wants me to taper off what she calls "slider" foods. I'm attending two support groups and plan to join an online one as well. It seems to help. I keep my food journal online with My Fitness Pal and love that I don't have to calculate anything. It does it all for me. I do have my moments, being a night owl, eves at the computer and watching tv, not sure why, but I get hungry. Being retired, I am a very late night owl, so that is my hardest time now. I just made a huge investment in a recumbent elliptical exerciser so am looking forward to beginning to improve my strength and stamina. I like that it has 18 different levels of exertion which is good for my poor knees. Once I'm thin, if they still bother me I'll get knee replacements as I don't have any cartilage left in them after carrying my heavy weight for too many years. I'm feeling optimistic, loving my new life and so looking forward to being more active and pain-free for the 1st time in a long time. Just remind me when I post something negative in the future to re-read this post. lol. Hoping all my fellow newbies are doing as well as I am. Isn't starting life over amazing?
  2. Yes, would definitely be interested in seeing what was offered. Not so much into the automatic delivery per month. I buy chewable calcium from Celebrate, and also buy Bariatric Supplement=chewable iron. I would also be interested in recipes. I buy Premium protein drinks from Costco so not much interested in that unless you can beat their prices. Thanks!!
  3. Hello, I had planned to attend your Jan 25, 2015 meeting but was not able to make it. Can you please let me know when the next one is scheduled? I still want very much to come. How big a group is this? How often are meetings scheduled? Thanks so much.
  4. Happy to report when I got on the scale today, my stall is hopefully ended. Down 4 more lbs! Hooray! For anyone hitting a stall I can only encourage you to keep going, do your daily food journal, exercise if you can, and drink every drop of required water. If you do all that, your stall will end. It took me almost 5 weeks and I have my hope back again. Since surgery as of today I'm down 35 lbs in just under 7 weeks. I'll take that! Keep the faith everyone!
  5. Yes, would love to come. Not clear though, is the meeting this Sunday Jan 25th from 3-5pm, or is it on March 5th, which is a Thursday? I look forward to meeting everyone! Still in a stall for past 18 days and it discourages me. I've continued to lose about an inch in measurements but the scale is stalled. :-(
  6. I am having the same issues too. I orig. weighed 359, dieted to 330 lbs pre-op, surgery date was Dec 8th and from then to Dec 31 I dropped another 29 lbs. I've been stalled since Dec 31. I have spoken to my nutritionist and my bariatric nurse, both told me it's unusual to stall that early post op but that it does happen and considering I'm down a total of 59 lbs since last Aug, my body just needs time to adjust to the new way of eating. My nutritionist suggested I increase my Water although I'm drinking 48 oz. a day so it is hard to get more in and maybe go back to 1 Protein drink a day instead of a normal meal. I've been doing that but still stalled. She also said a stall can last 4 to 6 weeks. The other piece is exercise which I can't do yet. I'm 66 with bad arthritis in both knees. I am looking into investing in a "recumbent stepper" exerciser, but they run about $2700! Don't get discouraged though, eventually your stall will end and your weight loss will begin again, just keep on track, journal everything you eat and look for patterns. The other thing I just started last week was taking my measurements and although no weight loss last week, I lost an inch on my waist and 1/2 inch on both upper arms, hips and both thighs. Maybe converting fat into healthier tissue? As for your gout, are you taking any medications for it? I take a daily Allopurinol pill which helps prevent it. I had to stop it for surgery and had a horrible flair-up in my rt wrist. A good friend recommended I try applying bentonite clay poultice to the gout affected area. Here's a great website: http://www.aboutclay.com/clay_info.htm I used it for about 5 days and it really did help although I was also taking prednisone. My wrist is still a little stiff but no longer painful. When you mix the clay poultice, use 1/3 cup water to 2/3 cup clay, mix thoroughly (it takes awhile till smooth and pasty), apply to affected area with fingers or spread it on with a butter knife, then wrap it in saran wrap, and then once it's sealed to the skin, I just slip a sock over the saran wrap, it works for feet or hands. Be sure you spread out the saran wrap before you apply the clay so that you can wrap it immediately without getting it all over the place-lol. I applied at bedtime, last thing, and slept with the poultice overnight. You can buy the clay at most local healthfood coops. The stuff sold in healthfood stores is more expensive and not as effective. Be sure the main ingredient is bentonite clay because it is the minerals in the clay that draw out the inflammation. Keep me posted on how you progress and I'll do the same. We can all use all the support we can get! Take care. IIt really sucks being "stalled" doesn't it?
  7. Hi leonardsmama, Do you have a costco store nearby? If not, I think you can also order a great tasting Protein ready to drink mix online from them too. It has 30 grams of protein per drink so really helps meet the total protein needed when you are beginning your transition stages to food. It's called Premier Protein. I love the chocolate flavor, like getting a choc. shake once a day. It's 11 oz carton is really good over ice. It does come in other flavors too. It's the only Protein Drink I've tried that doesn't have that horrible medicinal after-taste to it. Hope you can find it, you'll love it.
  8. Cryss and SlvrSax, were either of you able to connect to start a group in Snohomis County somewhere. I am a newbie, just had RNY bypass Dec 8, 2014. I do go once a month to Gr. Health support meeting in Everett, but feel I could use more support, even if just through a phone group if that works for either of you? I live just off of Hwy 526 and I-5 in S. Everett. Would appreciate some feedback. Thank you so much.

  10. So good to have found this forum! Had my RNY Dec 8th, onto soft foods Dec 24th, and as of Dec 31, down 32 lbs. I thought I was doing something wrong. It's only been 4 days since last lbs lost, I am increasing my water. At age 66 with arthritis in both knees exercise is not too much of an option right now. I do have some "Sit and Be Fit" dvds I need to play and participate in. And may also try just walking laps through the house now I don't need my walker inside at all. Still discouraging to stall though as it is so early post surgery. Is this really normal?
  11. Hi Cilia, I am 66 also. I know that puts us at the higher end of age allowed surgery. I had RNY surgery on Dec 8th. As of today, I am down 32 lbs, no dumping or real side effects other than I get tired more easily. Started soft foods Dec 24th. For past 2 days I have hit a plateau, may not be drinking enough water? Also because my starting weight was so high and I have arthritis in both knees, I have not been able to start exercising yet. Time to dust off my "Sit and Be Fit DVDs and walking laps inside my house to start slowly. I am in Everett, WA north of Seattle. What area of the country do you live in?
