  1. I am still pre-op, but I've mostly been following a lean protein/low carb/no wheat diet for the past month or so, so I imagine that many things will be the same post-op when I am on solid food again. Nobody else in my family will eat fish, so I will often bake myself a single serving of salmon or something and cook them their usual favorite. I do this when they want something like pizza that I just really can't have any of. For most meals, the main course is a lean Protein, so I will eat that and just not have the starchy sides. I will make spaghetti with turkey meatballs and I won't have any of the Pasta. I will make chicken and veggie fajitas and I won't eat the tortillas.

  3. My kids are 10 and 7 and I told them I was having surgery to help me make better choices so my body would be healthy. We looked at some illustrations of the surgery and talked about how I would eat afterwards. They seemed like they understood and were comfortable with it.
  4. My doc wants me to lose 20 lbs before scheduling my pre-op appointment. The reason she gave is that it will make surgery safer. It is my understanding that the standard 2 week pre-op diet will still take place after this 20 lb weight loss. I've been sticking to around 1200 calories, avoiding wheat, and limiting fat and carbs while maximizing Protein. It's been 3 weeks and I am down 13 lbs. YAY ME! The problem is that I'm not suffering like I normally would be on week 3 of a diet. I'm starting to have second thoughts. Should I see how far this eating plan will take me and maybe avoid surgery or should I learn from EVERY past experience that I will plateau, get discouraged, and binge myself back to a net gain and possibly have to start the whole process of approval again? On the other hand, what's to keep that from happening even if I do get the surgery? I know it's a decision I have to make for myself, but any input would be appreciated.

  6. My pre-op visit is Feb 2 and I have a weekend getaway planned for Valentine's Day, so I am hoping for the beginning of March. That should give me enough time for the pre-op diet and I will hopefully be recovered and feeling good by the time the kids go on spring break.
  7. I was wandering around Target yesterday and found some awesome plates. They are child sized with one large section and two small sections. They are dishwasher and microwave safe and they come in solid colors so you can feel like a grownup while using them. The best part is that they are only $.97! They also had some coordinating small bowls. I bought a bunch! http://m.target.com/p/plates-circo-blue-solid/-/A-15372259 is the blue one, but they come in other colors.
  8. Hi! I'm a 38 year old married full time mom of 2. I just got my insurance approval this week. I still need to get an EKG and blood work, visit with a personal trainer, and lose 15-20 lbs before the surgeon will schedule me. My bmi is 52 and she said the surgery will be safer if I can drop a little weight first. Insurance didn't require months of dieting. I've told my family and a few friends. Everyone has been pretty supportive so far. My husband is scared. I am scared too, but I am more scared of not being able to dress myself because of my weight. I am more scared of not being able to make it up the stairs to the bedroom. I'm 38. I need to get another 40-50 years out of this body. I feel so young on the inside. I want to travel and ride roller coasters and swim in oceans. I want my grandchildren to know me. I don't want to be kept from seeing shows because I'm worried that my behind won't fit in the seat. I am being treated for generalized anxiety disorder, but I am still pretty OCD about stuff. I like spreadsheets and timers and measurements. So... How do I do the whole Water thing? I get kidney stones and really have to stay hydrated. Do I drink 2 ounces every 20 minutes? Do I set a timer? Will I someday be able to drink more water at a time? What about during a workout? How do you stay hydrated while doing an hour of cardio on just a few ounces of water??? Do any of you have water bottles with measurements that you love? Are there any food or water tracking apps that are geared towards the way I will need to be eating? I've used myfitnesspal and I am not sure how to make it work for post-op. Thanks!

kicked off of a fair ride....

I really want to ride the Harry Potter ride at Universal Studios. It is probably the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I really started thinking about WLS after our last trip to Orlando.
  10. A friend died after having a bypass several years ago. It's a type of procedure that they dont even do anymore and she had other health conditions that contributed to her problems, but it still made an impression that won't go away. I'm just finally at the point where i am more afraid of not having the surgery than i am of having it.
  11. I really loved the way I looked and felt when I could wear a size 12. I am 5'7" and busty and I like having hips. I'm currently a 26, so a 12 seems pretty far away.
