I am a 38 year old wife and mother of two (a 10 year old boy and a 7 year old girl). I worked for several years as an IT consultant before having kids, but the full time travel was incompatible with mommyhood, so I retired. I spend my days volunteering at the kids' school. This is my 5th year on the PTA board. I really love being around all the kids. I like not having to act like a grownup. ;)

I am a newbie to WLS, but my weight loss journey goes back many years. I have been embarassed about my belly since I was pretty young. I started counting calories at age 11. I would sneak food and binge eat. Over the years, I've tried most of the diets that everyone tries. I do really well for the first 20 pounds and then I fall off the wagon and put 40 back on. I'm at the point where I think that my weight is going to kill me, but not before sucking all of the joy out of my life. I'm finally more afraid of not having surgery than I am of having surgery.

I have attended a few OA meetings and I plan to continue with them. I know the surgery will help my body hunger, but I need OA to help the head hunger.

I talked to some friends who have had surgery and I did a lot of research and decided to see a surgeon. I scheduled consultations with a couple of surgeons. The first one was OK but I loved the second one. I started jumping through the insurance hoops and I just got my approval this week.

My next steps are to see a personal trainer and get a letter saying I have been instructed in exercise techniques, have an EKG and blood work done, and lose 15 pounds to make the surgery safer. I hope to be ready in next month or two!
