Good luck!!

I completely understand your concerns, I struggle with depression as well. In my personal experience, the best thing for me is to be seeing a therapist during such a big life change. It gives you an outlet for those emotions. I started seeing one 2 weeks ago who specializes in eating disorders because she has a lot of experience with WLS but she is also a therapist for anxiety and depression, she has been a huge help already.

I'm in dfw as well but girl, why have you not been following the diet? I look at it as the first test as to my willpower for the upcoming life change after surgery. Take the time to mentally prepare yourself for a more restrictive eating style. Kick it into gear! You can do it!

Who is scared to give up food?
SimplySheavon replied to smile121's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I can completely understand where you are coming from. All I can tell you is that I have really been serious about positive affirmations, good books to help, and therapy. We can absolutely move past this relationship with food and fear to a much more peaceful place and I is going to be so worth it. Don't worry, you are certainly on your way -
Sounds like a great NSV !

Hi! I am an emotional eater also so I completely understand where you are coming from. I also gained all of my weight after the birth of my daughter, it is such a stressful time! I too began by researching surgeons and scheduled a consult. They suggested the sleeve which sounded better to me because I was concerned about the whole foreign body thing. I am self pay also. I lurk on the discussion board often and watch YouTube videos. I have started reading books and seeing a therapist for my emotional eating issues. I am going through True Results in Fort Worth, Texas for my surgery. I am happy to help any way I can or if you just need a buddy. -
Totally awesome!

Depressed from surgery
SimplySheavon replied to babytech82's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This may be dumb but I was wondering about depression after VSG because 95% of the serotonin produced in the body happens in the stomach. If 85% of your stomach is removed does that mean a significant amount of serotonin is missing as well? -
Hello all! I am new to post but have been lurking like a mad woman! I am trying to absorb as much information as possible and have been so pleasantly surprised by how supportive everyone is. I have had my first consult with my doc, bloodwork, and am waiting on my psych clearance to set up my EGD. I am cautiously optimistic at this point. On of the things that I do struggle with is the question of what happens when you suffer from food addiction and go through VGS? I am afraid of the emotional issues I will have to confront once food is no longer my crutch. I had a severe bout of depression after the birth of my daughter which has led to this 100lb weight gain. I am looking at beginning counseling immediately and have began reading books on emotional eating. Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated!
