Weird. Mine is giving me no more trouble than it ever has. Maybe you should call your doc.

    Any Pre-Op Cheaters?

OK. I suggest you tell your doc, honesty being the best and safest policy. But .... I dont think they will put off your surgery. Many people, myself included were NOT required to go on a liquid diet at all. The only "fast" I had to do was only on the day before surgery. I've heard the liquid diet helps the surgeon by shrinking things, but he should still be able to do the operation, despite your one day slip. My surgeon had no problem doing mine and I ate solid food right up until 21 hours before surgery. Good Luck!

How long & what to expect...

The time from consult to surgery varies with each situation. The fastest route seems to happen when you are paying for it yourself. Insurance covered surgery can happen in any time from a month to a year. Mine took 7 plus months from free seminar to surgery date. Insurance covered it. Good Luck!
  4. My pain meds were pills, but they were small. Ask your doc, there might have been a mistake at the pharmacy. The good news is, I stopped taking mine the day after I got home from the hospital (I was only in overnight) - so even if you have to crush them it might not be for long.
  5. My surgery was Nov 27th. I can tell, even though I'm trying not to do so, that I can eat a good amount. From what I have read I understand that this is normal. I dont think I could sit down and eat an amount equal to what I could pre-surgery, but it's more than I'd like to be capable of at this point. At 6 weeks post-op, we should hopefully get our first fills - this is when we should really be able to feel the restriction and not be able to eat much. Good Luck!

A November Nymph is 50lbs lighter!

Great job Holly! I got weighed today - first time post-op - and have only lost 13lbs since surgery (16 since setting the date). I can't hardly wait until I can post news as good as yours! Good on you too Jelbel and Sades!
  7. Surgery was a week ago and I am still almost constantly burping/belching! Anyone else having this issue? Any thoughts on why it is, or how to minimize/get rid of it? At first I figured it was the gas they pumped into my stomach, and I guess it may still be, but a whole week later? I'm thinking now it might have more to do with my pouch. I'm still on the clear liquid diet. Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

    Pet Peeves

First off, I sure hope I posted this under the correct topic. Still learning my way around here. Ok my pet peeve ... Doing a full sink of dishes (including pots and pans) when I'm on a liquid diet! A couple of glasses, a couple of spoons, that's all the mess I made. I sure wasn't the one cooking or eating pork roast, chicken or stuffing, why I am the one doing the dishes?! Ok, thanks for letting me rant.

    Bariatric Pre-Op Class

I had to attend one. They basically went over all pertinent info related to the surgery. This was our agenda: Greeting/Introduction Pre-op/Post-op Anesthesia Video Questions Dietary Exercise Physiology Break Pharmacy Diabetes Education (I got to leave before this one since I dont have it) They had people from the different departments come in and go over their info with us and they gave us handouts. Mostly it was stuff I already knew, either from all the stuff they've already made us do/given us or from previous surgeries, but I did get a free pedometer from the hospital for attending. lol

When does Insurance look at BMI?

Do you have any other health issues like diabetes or sleep apnea? My insurance company (Blue Cross) will cover the surgery with a BMI as low as 35 if you have related heath issues like those. Try looking into that aspect and see what they say. There should be an entire list of related health issues that they take into consideration. Good Luck!

    2 weeks till banding

I know it's hard to believe this but you'll be fine. Lot's of great things with the band. Only been banded a week myself but a friend of mine was banded a year and a half ago and she is doing great. She's lost over 125 pounds and has no regrets. She's met her doctor's goal but still has a few pounds to go to meet her personal goal. There are lot's of good things like that to read about on here. You'll be fine. Good luck!

    feelin a little down..

I had my surgery a week ago today as well. I too am on a 'clear' liquid diet for two weeks then full liquids for two weeks. The description of clear liquid I was given was pretty murky. I am mostly having Water, Vitamin water, broth, Jello, and popsicles, but I added juice and carnation instant Breakfast in the last couple of days with no problems what-so-ever. I also cheated and had a hot cocoa. Went down smooth, tasted great and was just what I needed to get over a hump. I guess what I'm saying is that as long as your carefull it might be ok to have a small amount of something 'fuller' to help fill you up and get through these weeks. I'm not saying it's ok to go eat a steak dinner, but maybe a little 'full' liquid will do the trick to keep you going. Just dont over do it. We were all strong enough to get to where we are today, we are all strong enough to see it through. Together! Buck up kids we'll be on solids before we know it and able to look back at this period and how we accomplished it with pride! (How's that for a try at being motvational?) :whoo:

    Home from 12/3 surgery

Bummer! <-- An understatement I'm sure. Sounds like you are dealing with it pretty well at the moment. I hope you continue to do so. Some people really have no clue. Those nurses all deserve to be 'itch' slapped! Sending good vibes your way.
  14. I was band a couple days before you and finally had a juice yesterday. Tasted yummy, wish I had thought of having some sooner. Go ahead and have some, just take it slow - juice is on my doc's list of 'clear' liquids. Enjoy!

For those who had a sleep study:

My sleep study was more than two years ago so it was already in my medical records that I have sleep apnea. I don't know if your Doc needs the study in it's entirety or just the results or clearance letter. It's important to know if you have a problem for a couple reasons. First it may help you get approved for surgery and secondly they need to be aware during and after surgery in case of any problems. With me they hooked oxygen through my cpap machine to keep my oxygen levels up during sleep (My doc requires an overnight stay following surgery). Even with that, the oxygen alarm woke me once or twice in the night. Just a ddep breath or two and it went away. :notagree With all that said, if I were you I'd just call and ask what they need/want. It's not going to bother them, it's their job to answer your questions.

anyone getting banded in next week or so

Hi all, I did get banded on Tuesday as scheduled. Came home late yesterday (about 9pm) from the hospital. Even though surgery went fine I was having some issues with pain at the port site. I had a bout of wretching this morning - I know, not a good thing. But I have since figured out it was the pain meds causing it. I haven't taken any more meds, am not feeling much pain and am now keeping down Water. Aside from feeling tired and a bit out of it, I'm doing ok now. I know each day will get better. I am, however, already having dreams of solid food. lol I hope all my fellow bandsters are all doing good.

    Surgery on Wed...

I can so relate to you freaking out. Here I sit looking at surgery in a matter of hours (11 hours to go) and I keep having freak out moments. I've had several surgeries in my life so it's not so much the surgery itself freaking me out as it is the forever change in my life that comes after. I think "good, almost here" then I turn around and think "what the heck am I thinking, I cant do this!". Positive, Negative, back and forth. Almost like little anxiety attacks. But ... I CAN do this. Just keep reminding yourself of the positives. That's what I'm trying to do. Good luck!

    Fiber Choice

If the pain doesn't lesson soon, I would consider calling your doc. As for taking it again. Know that fiber expands in the stomach, that's why people take it to help them feel full. I would wait until you feel back to normal and then, if you need the fiber to help regulate your system, try taking a smaller dose. Remember, your stomach is nowhere near the size expected for a 'normal' person/dose. That's my two cents. Good luck.

    6 month wait???

In my intact with the surgeon I only had to prove to them and for the insurance company that I have a history of serious dieting (obviously unsuccessful dieting). Things like Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutri-system, etc. In my case they just wanted to make certain that all non-surgical options had been attempted. My surgeon did not require any diet at all. Well except for the liquid diet I am on today to get ready for surgery tomorrow. Good Luck!

    Getting to know you ...

Hey there, Holly again. I just realized that I forgot to mention my age. I'm currently 40 but will be 41 in just 24 days.

    Getting to know you ...

Hi everyone! My name is Holly. I'm a single parent (divorced my x when I was pregnant), my son is 19 and doing very well in college. He's in his second year and is maintaining a 3 point something gpa. (I am the proud mama) We live in Minnesota. Besides my son there is a English Springer - Cocoa, a tabby cat - Buddy, and two birds in my household - all female. I love going to concerts and traveling. I even travel to concerts. lol Despite being morbidly obese, I earned a Black Belt (1st degree) in Karate two years ago and I am hoping to test for second degree in the near future. I am assuming the testing process will be a bit easier once I start losing all these extra pounds. I have a BA degree in Speech Communications with a Theatre Emphasis, from the University of Wisconsin but find myself working full time in a bar for a charity. I sell Pulltabs. Similar to scratch offs and a legal form of gambling in Minnesota to benefit charities. I do this so that I am able to take time off now and then to do freelance work in the film and tv industry. Not easy work to get or do when you are a 'large' woman. :cry I'm hoping to do more of this type of work as I get slimmer and heathier. In the meantime the work I do is easy and gives me all sorts of time to read, watch tv/movies and socialize - all while on the clock! :clap2: My oldest and dearest friend got banded last year. She was going to do bypass until I explained the band to her (I started researching it about 4 or 5 years ago), she talked with her doctor about it and decided to go for it instead. She is doing terrific (down over 125 pounds) and has no regrets about her decision to band. She claims that she's been my guinea pig. lol I feel like I'm writing a novel so I'll stop now. Oh, I'm getting banded in two days (Nov 27)! I'm nervous but having my friend to talk to and reading good posts on here are both a big help in keeping my nerves under control. Thanks!

anyone getting banded in next week or so

Hi. I'm new to this board and taking my time finding my way around. I am scheduled to be banded on Tuesday (Nov 27th, 2007). I have had no pre-op diet. Just liquids all day the day before surgery. I'm a bit nervous and hope that I've made the right decision. I only know that I cant go on living the way I am and I feel the need for drastic action to change my life for the good is called for. The process has taken me more than seven months, from beginning to surgery date. The fact that I haven't given up gives me hope that this is the right move. At this point my main concern is the sniffles that I picked up. How sick is too sick for surgery? I live in Minnesota - we sniffle for six months out of the year! lol Good Luck to you on Saturday (and beyond) and Good Luck to us all as well! Holly
  24. It only took 7 & 1/2 months but I am scheduled for banding on Tuesday November 27th, 2007! I have the sniffles. I live in a 'cold' state. Will this be enough for the doc to want to rechedule surgery? I hope not. Anyone?
