My journey so far:I decided years ago that due to health concerns and family history, that if I could not get my weight under control on my own by the time I was 40, that I would need to take drastic measures. I did some research on options and even passed on the lapband info to a freind who was about to have a gastric bypass. After reviewing my info on lapbanding with her surgreon they opted for this route. Her surgery was a year before mine, so this gave me a living example to monitor. She, for the record, has been very sucessful. So my 40th b-day came and went and there I was still obese. So, off I went to an informational meeting. I jumped through all the hoops and got approved by my insurance company for the surgery. About 3 weeks before my 41st b-day I was in surgery. I did well at first, losing about 50 pounds in the first 6 months. Then it all came to a standstill. I was capable of eating pretty much anything and how much I wanted. My fills would only work for a week or two of restriction. And then I started backsliding. I believe in the 9 or 10 months that I struggled like this I regained about 8 pounds. Then at my appt on June 30, 2009 my surgeon discovered that half the saline that was supposed to be in my band was missing. A week later I had surgery to replace the faulty tubing and install a new port. Since then (today is June 24, 2009) my scale at home claims I've lost nearly 15 pounds. I dont believe my scale as it is a cheapy, but I do believe I my weight is finally starting to drop again. I have restriction, I'm not constantly hungry and I definately cannot eat whatever and however much I want! I feel as though I am back at the beginning of my journey though but I also have renewed hope of being able now to reach my goals.
