  1. 1.7 mile walk felt great, but now incredibly bloated and nauseous.

  2. 26 and only wish I'd done it sooner.
  3. My clothes are already fitting very differently, I'm so excited for my first post-op weigh in on Thursday - I have a scale and it's so hard to wait

      exciting!!! and congrats :)

  4. 1/2 mile stroll felt amazing, but WOW did it generate some gas.

  5. I think the answer is no, but I'd like to get thoughts from folks. I'm 3 days post-op and on full liquid protein at the moment. On my list of approved foods are things like: protein shakes, jello, pudding, etc. I found this awesome bariatric protein recipe site and was SO EXCITED to try the pistachio mint protein shake. Two tsp in it was amazing until I realized that pistachio pudding mix has those itty-bitty chunks of pistachio in it. I stopped right then and moved onto something I know to be completely smooth but I can't help wondering, how at-risk am I from those little chunks I may have consumed?
  6. Day 3 and finally well enough to walk out on the farm to see my beloved goats. YAY for quick healing!

  7. I'm finally over the panic of possible DVT (totally wasn't) enough to realize that I'm not getting near enough fluids in here on day 2 (or three, depending on whether Sx itself counts as day 1). I sip whenever I can, but as soon as I sip I hard mega-belching for 10-20 minutes. Seems they left more air in there than they thought it it's still seeping back into my digestive tract for expulsion. It makes it near impossible to drink though and is incredibly uncomfortable. Anybody have any tips or tricks for dealing with this? I'm super thirsty, have a great fuzzy-naval Syntrax Protein I'm eager to sip on constantly, but so far every sip is near debilitating with all the gas. Or is this another "just wait it out" thing?
  8. Thank you all so much. I have ready responses to others' dilemmas matching mine, so I felt silly posting this myself. But your responses and caring support is invaluable. Today I'm doing FAR better.
  9. I spent the first 30 hours post-op nauseated beyond anything I could even have fathomed pre-op and about wanted to die. Eventually I got some advice from folks here and my Dr. called me in a phenergan suppository to my pharm. Now I'm still nauseous, but only like a 3 on the nausea scale (rather than the 9/10 of twelve hours ago). Now, though, I woke up last night with my right forearmarm is swollen and achey and half-golfball-sized lump right between my bicep and deltoid. My Dr. said to go to ER immediately if my calf got swollen and achy as it means a likely blood clot, but it's my arm instead. I called the on-cal doc around 4 am who said "up to you, either go in now or call me back in the morning." What do you all think?
  10. @@Mikadivalia, MUCH MUCH better. I've already gotten more fluid in in these last 4 hours than I did all day yesterday.
  11. HAHAHAHAHA! I looked down on the toilet this morning and saw a mole on my thigh I haven't been able to see without lifting my belly in years!

Not allowed to weigh myself until 1-week post-op and I couldn't be more thankful for this NSV!

  12. Hello fluids solution! Coconut water goes down easier than anything yet. I just need to watch the sugar.

      ProudGrammy

whatever works is great (yes do watch the sugar) i see you are only 3 days PO - hope all is going well- speedy recovery - plenty of fluids - good luck kathy

      BLERDgirl

YAY! I always recommend coconut water since it's a natural fluid that does the same thing that gatorade does. Glad to hear you found something that works.

  13. You all have no idea how wonderful it feels on this end too
  14. I'm 27 hours out and having the worst nausea in my life. I'm zophran, ginger water, and a heavy duty nausea-killing supposiyory, but still wishing i could die temporarily until it's gone. anyone else experience this? how long did it last?
  15. @Jazmundo, It's by no means real cake, BUT, with our taste buds a-changin post-op, this smoothy is surprisingly close to the real thing in all but texture. 8 oz cold fat-free milk 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder* 1 tbsp sugar-free instant cheesecake pudding mix, dry ½ tsp cherry extract 3 ice cubes -Blend in blender on high for 45 seconds. -Measure out ¼ cup and serve. Nutrient Analysis: 60.4 calories, 8.4g protein, 6.5g carbohydrate, .2g fat. Though do wait until the stricture is cleared up - poor you! Let us know how we can support you.

    Ketosis

@@Bellarose100, Absolutely, you get < about 50-60 g of carbs, depending on your overall mass and energy needs, and your body breaks almost entirely fat rather than fat and glycogen mix. When fats break down it breaks into ketones (those funny-smelling compounds you may or may not remember from o-chem) that we burn rather than the usual glucose. When it's mostly fat breaking down you end up with higher concentrations of ketones, and that we call ketosis. Chances are you'll be in mild ketosis (though likely not detectable with most home tests) until all your EW is gone - this is why exercise is vital - to keep our bodies burning largely ketones to fuel our muscles rather than muscle and fat to fuel our existence. Sorry to nerd out on you, I'm a chem and bio teacher and I love this stuff.
  17. No clot, just very painful swelling from an IV that slipped the vein

      I hope it heals quickly.

  18. Just back from the ER and, thankfullly, not DVT. Thank goodness for insurance that, even if it wouldn't cover VSG, will absolutely cover today's ER visit. The ER doc, after ultrasound and some bloodwork, is pretty sure that my IV at the surgical center blew out of the vein just partially - not enough to really be noticed, but enough to cause some intense swelling and discomfort in the meantime. I'm to keep an eye on it, but trust that nothing should go awry if I keep to my plan. Thanks for all your support everyone!
  19. Nause nearly gone, now a posible blood clot in my arm. Nearest ER opens in an hour, the one that's already open would take an hour to get there :(

    1. ProudGrammy

      ProudGrammy

did you go to ER concerning possible blood clot?? safe than sorry!! glad nausea is just about gone - take care kathy

  20. Thank you all so much. Shortly after my original post, my Dr. gave me phenergan suppositories which, along with cutting my hydromorphone in half has helped a TON. I'm from rouglhy a 9 on the nausea scale to hovering between a 2 and a 3. Still no fun but infinitely better. Now, though, my right arm is swollen and achey. My Dr. said to go to ER immediately if my calf got swollen and achy as it means a likely blood clot, but it's my forearm instead. I called the on-cal doc who said "up to you, either go in now or call me back in the morning." What do you all think?
  21. i have never been this nauseous in my life. 9/10, i can't breathe without dry heaving

      ProudGrammy

dry heaves, nausea?? oh no, feel better soon kathy

  22. Got in a nap, now I feel at least 8.3 tomes better. Going to that AGAIN

  23. Hi all, I've got my Sx date for Feb 12 and I couldn't be more excited. I'm already down 27.4 lb since starting the approval process in late December. As I get closer to my date and my last pre-op next week, I do have a question for you all: How hard should I press my surgeon to consider removing my gall bladder? I have a dear friend who had VSG two years ago and several aquaintances - more than half have had to have their gall bladders removed since. The rest describe themselves as 'ticking time bombs' and all have emphasized how important it is I have mine taken out now. Has anyone here had a similar experience? Or perhaps a strong counter-narrative? Obviously I'll as my Dr. and follow his advice, but I also have the most amazing surgeon who is very patient centered and willing to at least consider anything I ask. I don't want to waste his time or mine, but I won't be able to afford having my gall bladder out after the fact for several years while I'm paying off this surgery. Thanks! Smye07
  24. I made it. Sleeved and hiatal hernia repaired. Now feeling crazy nauseous, even with to drugs on board, Borth is good though
