I have been yo-yo dieting since I was 15 years old. I've tried Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, the Atkins Diet, diet pills, starvation, and Nutri-systems. I'd lose 20 pounds and then gain it right back after a few months. Besides hating what I saw when I passed by a mirror, my knees have begun to have problems due to osteoarthritis. There's so much in life I still want to do, and I'm tired of my weight holding me back. I'm successful in my career, don't have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and basically have my life in a great spot right now...except for my weight!
I had lap-band surgery on December 29th. During the procedure, my doctor also did stomach plication, so I've actually had two procedures done. My husband has held my hand all the way through this journey, which started with me researching this option two years ago. He was hesitant at first to agree to surgery, but the problems I've had with my knees pushed him towards agreeing with me. It didn't matter to him that I had gained a lot of weight since we were married. I don't think I could have gone through with it if he hadn't been so supportive.
I'm excited for the changes I'll see in the future, and I'm glad I have a forum like BariatricPal to read about the experiences of others. It really helps so you don't feel so alone because the only people who know I've had this done are my two daughters and my husband. Here's to a new year and a new me!
