    Sleeve vs. band

I had thought about the band but was told by my doctor that they can take the band off but it stays in your body. also they found it wasn't as effective as sleeve. I was sleeved dec. 31, 2014, things are great, plus with sleeve they cut out your hunger thingy in your stomach. down 30 pounds feel so much better. don't regret my decision.
  2. It's normal, its fear of the unknown. i had the sleeve Dec. 31. chose sleeve so i could still have carbs. i don't regret having the sleeve for one moment. i don't get tempted by food commercials...the sleeve its all good.
  3. Throw out the scales. it's about feeling better, getting healthy......its not about a number on the scale.
  4. I should add one more reason why i went with the sleeve and no regrets. i was sleeved december 31, 2014. it's because it removes the part of your stomach that controls hunger. I know it can grow back sometimes, still went with sleeve. I see pizza on tv, fast food, my mind says.... so what! it has no affects on me want to eat. my focus is on life. food is not controlling my life any longer when i see it or smell it. Did i mention that I LOVE pizza.... carbs. God is good! for the first time in 55 years my mind has replaced wonderful thoughts instead of i'm hungry. My life feels like its just beginning......the sleeve, oh ya, i'd do it again in a heartbeat.
  5. I went in for the sleeve and when i talked with my doctor just before getting insurance ok my doctor suggested the Switch for me. Thought I'd loose more weight and better chance of keeping it off. plus felt that i could come off meds and sleep apnia machine. I asked what the long term affects of the switch were. "What about when people are in their 80's, need to go to nursing home? " He said that there were not enough studies, but malnutrition would be a big concern. plus with the switch you can have all the Proteins you want but NO CARBS. I like my doctor a lot. Good guy. I said i'm not doing this for beauty reasons, he thought that may be one of the reasons. I said I have support for sleeve but didn't feel comfortable changing the procedure at this late in the game, i didn't want to go the rest of my life with No Carbs. The reason for my surgery was to be their for my grandson and family, ward off diabetes that is a real possibility for me and i already have bad knees. I've had bad knees since 18 years old, now 55. Sleeve has far less chance of malnutrition. My doctor had a great response. " It sounds like your convinced to go with the sleeve and have really thought this out, ok then the sleeve it is." I did thank him for bringing the switch to my attention and going through all my options. Doctors are not there to coerce you, they just really want you to be aware and see where your mindset is at.

    Post-Surgery Depression

I have had depression for years, i did not find that the sleeve worsened it at all. its major surgery.......but i'm better for it. I don't think about food. I see pizza, burgers fries on tv.......my reaction, so what. what i do think about, because it has changed (for Me) my way of thinking. What will I do this summer, what New things will I do with my life. none of this has to do with food. For the first time in 55 years I have a new way of thinking, ME FIRST. with saying this, i'm 55 married to the same wonderful guy 32 years, 5 children 25, 27, 27, 28, & 30.... one grandson 17 months, him i want to do more with. i'm the youngest of 6 still call my parents to see how they are doing. inlaws my father in law ......i call them my mother and father inlove instead of inlaws because they gave me a wonderful gift , my hubby. I took care of my father in love for almost 2 years with alzheimers, he went home to be with the Lord a little over 2 years ago. my mother in love, i had her move in with us. No regrets. so its BIG when I say it has changed my mindset to ME...... and my new lease on life. Not selfish just putting my health first. Depression.....it may be there be it seems improved. its the not thinking about food first that has put my mindset in a different place. Everyone is different oh it 4 weeks today i was sleeved, on dec 31, 2014 down 21lbs. eating and drinking on schedule.

    Question

Its never too late until the surgery is done. they may have to resubmit to the insurance. i was going for the sleeve, my doctor suggested the switch. My prolbem with switch, no carbs. sleeve you can have carbs. Sleeve has less of a chance of malnutrition and you take Flintstone complete chewable vit. the switch you have to take more vitimans and costly. . I asked what happens if you have the switch and 20 years later your in a nursing home? Not enough data yet. decided against lap band because if it didn't work they leave it in your body. they wont remove it. sleeve to me was a no brainer everyone has to make up their own mind and be comfortable.

    3 Months out, vitamin check

hi, we were told that you shouldn't take Gummie vitiman, takes up too much room in sleeve. our doctor recommended Flintstone COMPLETE chewable 2 times a day. I bought the generic, Doctor is fine with that. I had the sleeve.

    Last minute BIG DOUBTS

I don't know about anyone else, but i have no appetite. i see pizza on tv thing that would normally make me hungry and it doesn't bother me. With the sleeve they take out your hunger thingy. i have no regrets. like i said before, they tell you don't have the surgery because they are worried something will happen to you on the table. one thing i notice about this website it's 99% positive results to 1% neg. Your decision in the end, are you sure your not having doubts because perhaps your not ready yet. i have bad knees, diabetes runs in the family and high cholestrol. I did it to be proactive. I remember when i was 22, weight came off at a drop of a hat. i wish our bodies were like that in our late 40's and 50's. watched one of the coaches with biggest loser today, he was asked "who is your biggest disappointment that put the weight back on after the show?" His answer was " unfortunately most of them put the weight back on."
  11. go for it you will feel better after the inital pain of the surgery. my daughter wanted me to try to lose without the surgery. She told me after surgery it was because she was afraid that something might happen to me. its not about family, its about you, putting yourself first for a change to do whats needed for you to succeed. we as caregivers are not use to putting ourselves first. it's weird and unnatural. stay strong and love yourself enough to help yourself. help comes in all packages...surgery is one of them. im not in it for the quick fix...im in it because its time to look after my health. my husband and family are supportive.
  12. Let your doctor know about your insurance.... im sure they will fit you in. my doctor got me in for Dec. 31 because i told him i had a high deductible (3600.) and had met it for the first time this year. They don't want to go through all this work to lose a surgery.
  13. i went back to read your post again and had to chuckle to myself.... you feel like your behind everyone else..... your way ahead of those who are still wondering if they should check into any kind of surgery.
  14. don't feel discouraged....this isn't about a diet but a lifestyle. You should give yourself a pat on the back for making a hard enough choice to do any surgery. To me thats the brave step! Summers coming!
