    My new journey

Hey there, glad to hear things are getting better for you. I had my surgery 11/04/14 and have lost about 65 lbs., I too am still having trouble with getting the proper amount of Water in and Protein and find I have very little energy and have a difficult time getting out and doing things. I had a co-worker ask me today if I regretted getting the surgery, I told her no, I knew it wasn't going to be an easy road, but I am looking to the future and being able to move around better and will in time get things right for my health. Keep me posted on how your journey goes, would be nice to have some people to talk to that had surgery around the same time as me.
  2. I had a stricture around the 5.5 week mark and had an endoscopy and dilation done (this was just before christmas) I have to take prevacid and a stomach coater to take care of an ulcer that is forming (i just love taking more medicine...NOT). I have to go back for another scope on the 30th of January to see if they need to dilate again. I still have difficulty with water going down comfortably and seem to have lost the desire for all kinds of foods I used to enjoy and certain textures make me nauseous too. I am also having a helluva time taking the vitamins etc. that I am supposed to. Do you or anyone else suffer from having really dry eyes and I wonder if not getting enough fluids has a hand in that?
  3. I had my surgery Nov 4/14 and was told to expect a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks off of work. I just went back to work January 5th (full time hours) and am finding it very tiring, even if it is an office job.....still having trouble finding the right foods that I can "stomach" and if I could I would actually take a couple more weeks off, they say it is different for each person. Some days I feel ok, and other days I feel horrible and yoyo working isn't exactly something my boss wants to deal with, so it is tough.

    10 weeks post NAUSEA

Are you able to keep liquids down? Or does that feel like it gets stuck in your throat as well? You may want to get an Endoscopy done to check and make sure there are no strictures where small intestine joins new pouch if that is the case.

  7. Hello my name is Carol and I am two months post surgery. It has definitely been a struggle with trying to get the right amount of Protein and Water into my body, I am still having trouble with that one. It's been about two week's since I had a short hospital stay, as I was not able to keep anything down and was starting to get really dehydrated, when they performed an endoscopy they discovered scar tissue build up at the site that the lower intestine was joined to new pouch and there was only a very tiny little hole where the food could try to get through, this was rectified by Dr. putting a small balloon device down into that area to dilate the scar tissue area. I am now also taking 1 stomach coating pill 4 times a day and 1 stomach acid neautralizer 2 times a day, the first one instructs to take an hour before eating or 2-3 hours after, by the time I try to follow those instructions I would never be able to eat so that is another challenge I am facing, I know I need to do this as I do not want stomach ulcers, but it is just so difficult. My pre surgery story is pretty similar to so many others here, I've struggled with my weight my whole life, when I was 18 I started having health issues with my thyroid, initially diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and after a radio active iodine treatment I went to Hypothyroidism, which now to this day I take a supplemental thyroid pill for. I've tried a few different diets, but always seemed to find the weight that I'd lost and at my heaviest I was 293 lbs., and was really noticing the extra aches and pains that I was starting to have to deal with. I looked into the Gastric BP surgery almost 4 years ago and have gone through all the classes that were provided by Weight Wise out of Edmonton, AB and was finally put on the waiting list last January 2014. The waiting to be notified of a surgery date was long, but then this is something you don't want to go into blindly, make sure to be informed to make sure this is the surgery for you. Today I am at 239 lbs. and still have a long way to go, but most importantly I still need to get my health in check and be able to take in all the Vitamins etc. and be able to get the food and water in. I look forward to chatting with who ever wants to share on this site and get advice from everyone as well.

    Should I get an endoscopy?

Hey there, if you haven't done the scope, you should get it done. I had the gastric bypass surgery done Nov 4th of this year and the last few weeks I have been having progressive trouble with getting food in and feeling like it was getting stuck in my throat. Just before christmas I went into emergency because I wasn't able to keep food or water down...after spending an agonizingly long wait to be seen by a doctor and assessed, they had sent me for an endoscopy and it turns out that there was a build up of scar tissue around the site where small intestine was joined to new pouch, leaving a very very tiny hole for food and water to pass through. They had to put a tube down into my stomach area and inflate a small balloon device to dilate the area with the scar tissue, I am now able to get in a bit more food and water (still get a bit nauseous, but better than before). How are you doing now?
