    Breastfeeding With Sleeve

I love this thread. I know it's ancient but I feel it's really important so I'll put my experience in too. I was sleeved 13 days ago. I am still nursing my 16 month old daughter perfectly well. I nurse 4-5x a day and she has had no complaints. I asked the staff at my clinic if I could continue to breastfeed during all my preop appts and they said no. That I "couldn't" while I was on the 2 week preop diet because it wouldn't be safe for baby. (It's just low calorie, high Protein food. Nothing unsafe there.) They also said I couldn't because of the anesthesia. (I wasn't gonna nurse in the hospital anyways. In fact, I didn't even pump. I didn't get engorged until nearly 24 hrs after my surgery. I tried to hand express but I gave up quickly. My boobs don't like giving up milk for anything but baby.) I was released from the hospital 36 hrs after surgery and went straight to my baby and nursed perfectly fine. They also said that I would get so few calories after surgery that I "wouldn't" be able to nurse. I have averaged 500 calories a day and she hasn't complained yet. Don't wean unless you want to.

    February sleevers

I'm on liquids only for 2 weeks. Then purées for 4 weeks. At 6 weeks I graduate to soft food.

    February sleevers

I was sleeved feb 18th. The healing is going well. I was able to get 3 Protein drinks in plus about 40oz of other fluids. I have a fair amount of muscle pain and occasionally I drink too fast and make my sleeve angry. No nausea yet except when I took two pills back to back. I'm learning how to treat my sleeve nice and I know it will treat me nice back. I am REALLY looking forward purées in 2 weeks.
  4. I'm being sleeved on February 18th and I am looking forward to - keeping up with my little kids - not having 3x shirts be tight and having to tug them down all the time - looking like a "normal" couple with my husband. He is 145lb and I'm 320. We look like an old fashioned nursery rhyme. - buying new cute shoes as my feet shrink.

    30 something...

I'm 33 with my surgery scheduled for February 18th. Preop diet starts in 6 days. I'm a mom of 3 girls(5,3,1) and live in Michigan. The hardest part so far was giving up caffeine. With the little kids I'm running low on energy.
