I have always struggled with my weight...even as a kid. I wasn't what one would consider "obese", rather I was always about 10 lbs overweight. When we started having our girls is when my weight began to fluctuate significantly. So, I guess it must have started around 24. It has been a drastic game of up and down since then. The most I've lost at once is about 75lbs. It was done in an extremely unhealthy way, so when I decided to get healthy the pounds came back on. I could go on and on about different "diets", "lifestyle changes", and prescription weight loss meds I've tried over the years. You name it, and I've probably done it in an effort to lose weight!

I have been dreaming about WLS for a very long time...but, that is all it has ever been is a dream. I wasn't a fortunate one that had access to health insurance. Well, all that changed a year ago when I was eligible for insurance through the marketplace. Even after I had insurance I really didn't think I could afford the surgery, as my insurance only covered half. This December I changed to a more expensive plan, but one that much better covered the WLS.  My new insurance waives the six month wait if the BMI is over 50.  At my weigh-in appt. my BMI just barely creeped over that at 50.8.  I was elated, and quite surprised, as I honestly did not think I was that close to 50! For the first time in my life I was jumping for joy at being overweight!!! The last thing I needed or wanted was ANOTHER "physician supervised diet plan". There is another "tool" I've attempted to use. The last time I did a year long supervised diet plan...I lost 50 lbs, only to regain that plus an additional 15.  Enough with the fluctuations...I am READY to move forward with my life, and regain control!

I don't pretend to have all of the answers, or even most of the answers. I know this is going to be an enormous undertaking. I know this isn't going to be easy...but, I'm ready for the challenge.  I have an appointment this week to find out when my surgery date will be. I will be meeting with one of the surgeons that specializes in the Duodenal Switch procedures @ GT Surgery Center in Traverse City, MI. I know I am in very good hands, and I truly believe this procedure is going to save my life!!!!
