No butts about it
Band Aid mom replied to JustWatchMe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Justwatchme- YOU MADE MY DAY!!!!!!! I had that surgery about 15 years ago and I feel so much better knowing WLS is easier! You are right that it is a bear, but it was sooo worth it! If you are 12 days out then you should be getting very close to the end of the painful part. After that, it is just a little discomfort. A soft pillow or the donut was my best friend for about 6 weeks. The good news is, it is a one time surgery because after the fact you are so focused on not having that surgery again that you include all the needed Fiber and veggies (and then some extra just for good measure) to stay on track! LOL Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon! -

Band Aid mom replied to JamesJ4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That is so awesome!! Congratulations on your huge success I love reading about people's journey, the good, the bad and the ugly, so I can prepare and know that someone has gone down the same path before me. Thank you for sharing and I wish you all the best! -
Thank you both for the words of support! I am working through most of my emotions and am determined to be her rock, so I have to get healthy and fit for both of our sakes! I may occasionally ask you guys to be my "rock" along the way, if you don't mind?

Last night my best friend of 36 years called to tell me she was just diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. I felt like my heart was being ripped apart as I was so distraught for what she will have to go through! I know things have changed a lot with the big "C" and I have no doubt that she is not going to let this take her down, but I am just miserable for her. I an emotional "non-eater". When I get very upset or stressed, I just can't think about food- it makes me want to gag. I jokingly told her that she just made my pre-op diet a whole lot easier and she always knew just what I needed when I needed it. Now it's my turn to return the favor to her. I hope I can give her even half the love and support that she always shows me! Time to put my misery aside and start lifting her up.

2 months post op - less than 15lbs lost
Band Aid mom replied to Anne Stephen's topic in Rants & Raves
I think MFP and measuring food is a great idea to get a good picture of where you are. True story- the other day I thought I ate soooo good (sure felt like I didn't eat much that day at all) and went home and plugged it into MFP and my eyes nearly bulged out of my skull!!! It is a real eye opener, especially when you are new at this and learning. Things that I were taught when I was younger that are good for you, truly are, in moderation (this seems to be my problem). I realize now that I never really knew what an actually "NORMAL" portion was and that is where my scales come in handy. I am learning every day! I have not gone through my surgery yet and surely am not portraying myself as any expert, just relaying my personal experience. Hopefully when I get further down this road I won't have to "learn" so much, but my mind is wide open right now :-) -
Thanks for the tips!! It is very much appreciated!

You make good points and I think that is a good thought process to live by! Besides, I do love rewarding myself with retail therapy LOL Thanks to you both!

What increments did you set your mini goals at so you felt challenged but not overwhelmed? 20 pounds, 50 pounds? Just a personal survey for opinions and thoughts. Thanks!

My dream is to be able to get on a bike and ride again without injuring my *you know what* and walking like I have been doing things I shouldn't have for the next 3 days. The last time I rode I thought I had seriously done permanent damage to the basement!! Can't wait for that day :-) Oh, and the beach -always! Not sure if this body will ever rock a bikini again but it is a dream! It may have to be a dream at midnight and when the moon is behind a cloud hahahaha!

Hi slkesler! I am schedule to banded in a month so I don't have any first hand experience yet with the band but I am more than willing to send prayers your way! I bet you find it much easier now that you are able to put some exercise in your routine. That always helps me get fired up and feel better too! Best wishes for a successful new start after your surgeries!!

So, I am having lap band on 2/12. My doctor wanted me to start my pre-op diet 4 WEEKS beforehand. I decided to practice this week and see how I did- not terrible but definitely need a little work. I have to stay at 20 carbs or less per day and I am hitting about 30-50. But the real thing that is needling me, but makes me happy all at the same time, is my husband has lost 8 pounds this week- (me, not so much- only 2). The part that makes me happy is that he is super supportive and on board with all things that will make my journey easier (he really is a fantastic guy). He has not complained one bit this week with all my crazy meals. But what a kick in the gut to see that at this rate, he will reach MY goal weight before I even get started. SIGH I feel guilty for complaining because I know that there are a lot of companions out there that give no support at all, but man. . .

Hang in there- you got this!! We are rooting you on and I am very excited to be able to see your fabulous progress/updates in the coming months! Positive thoughts coming your way!

Funny you should ask that. I made my decision to do this and the next thing I know my husband's family (cousins, sisters, mom, aunt, etc) start calling me and talking about what a great thing this will be and wishing me success and support. At first I was annoyed that my husband told God and everyone but then I simmered down because I realized I didn't tell him it was a secret. So, originally I had not planned on telling too many people but now the cat is out of the bag, so. . . Actually, it is refreshing to speak freely about it and the people who haven't had good things to say, I just avoid that subject or tell them I really don't need their advice or negativity. All's good!
