I am so sorry to hear about all of your bad experiences.
I have heard of a number of people who have had really hard times in the first weeks after surgery with awful pain and such. It is awful that you are having to go through that.
All I can say is don't push yourself. Don't just start eating foods you don't feel ready for. Maybe stay on soft foods for a while more before going to full solids, or even pureed foods for a while. With all you have been through, your pouch is probably pretty angry.
We are all here for you! Please use this site heavily, look around, we are all on the same journey and you will find so many wonderful people here who are sympathetic or understand what you are going through.
In the end, things will get better and you will be very happy you got the surgery. Just hang in there!

meryl0707 reacted to dhrguru in 3 months post-op. Just ate two slices of pizza.
"Was everyone else able to eat meat, rice, pizza, Pasta, etc etc this early in their recovery?" Yes I can eat meat: chicken, fish, steak pork. But I limit what I eat-- obviously eating the same amount of any of those that I ate before surgery is counter intuitive. Can I eat pizza/pasta- I don't know. I've eaten those things for 38ish years of my life and they are not going anywhere. They can wait till I reach my goal...and maybe by then i won't want it. This method is so much a bout self-discipline!!
" I'm fairly certain I'll be the 20% of people who just gain all the weight back and don't lose much to start with." This is a self-defeating thought. If you come out of the gate not believing you can, then that's what you will do.

Congrats, I've had symptoms and I'm going through a stall right now, but I would do it again in a second, why???? Because of many reasons, but the latest besides being able to get in a booth at any restaurant??? I went to buy new scrubs for work this week and got emotional, the girl asked me what size and I said 3x (I was a 7x), because I've lost a lot of weight, and i asked to let me try a 4x just in case, she gave me several 3x and refused to give me a 4x, then she said "you are a 2x, why are you getting 3x ?", I responded I probably was a 2x but didn't want to be disappointed, I bought all 3 scrubs(3x) they were loose, and the girl giggled And said "next time you come in if you buy the 2x I'll give you a discount ", so it's great that you had a smooth recovery, and remember you will have greater moments than that, way to go "Looser" keep it up !!!!!

The original post was not tongue in cheek at all. I'm not even sure it was cleverly crafted click bait.

I had a relatively easy recovery, too.
It was a challenge getting in my Protein and fluids, especially early out, but I just keep sipping.
Everyone has different thresholds for pain, different surgeon's, and different reactions and recoveries.

The surgery you got is not a therapist. It will not stop your food addiction. You can definitely sabotage it. It was meant as a tool to help you lose weight, but it still requires hard work on our part. We have to change our pattern of eating. I was taught that 1/2 of the meal should be Protein, 1/4 fruits/vegetables, and if you can still eat, the final 1/4 should be whole-grain or complex carbs. Although having 1 (one) slice of pizza every once in a while won't kill you, making a habit of having that or other such foods (such as hamburgers) will stop or reverse your weight loss.
Grazing (eating small amounts throughout the day) will also sabotage your weight loss. Drinking high-calorie beverages will also sabotage your weight loss. Both of these habits get around your surgical restrictions.
For your food addiction, you should definitely see a therapist. Group therapy might work as well.
Your weight loss is up to you, not the surgery. It was not a magic bullet to lose weight.

Went from 42DD to a 32DD which was mostly skin rolled up into my bra! I called them a 32L (long). Had a lift/implant and am now back to my 32DD but they are full and normal looking!

Monday was 5 months post-op for me and I hit a personal goal of 75 lbs. lost. It was time to take a few pics, so I thought I'd share them here. My tight size 3X is now quite large on me. My son suggested I hold one side of it out to show just how big. The black outfit is a size "L". Been fighting this obesity battle for 30+ years. Still have a ways to go but feeling so much better in my almost 54 year old body! BEST decision I ever made

meryl0707 reacted to blashlee in Five month surgiversary....
Hey all. This past Sunday 9/6/15 was my 5 month surgiversary!! I have lost 90 lbs since starting my journey back in January. I've gone from a size 16/18 2XL to size 8/M.
To Celebrate my 5 month surgiversary, I ran the Disneyland Half Marathon! I completed 13.1 miles in 3:00:49 and smiled the entire course! It was incredible. I went from someone who once had a full blown meltdown trying to run a half mile exercise to someone who eats miles for Breakfast. I never ever thought I would see this day. So happy to have been granted this second chance at life and I'm glad to report I am using it to the fullest! I'm already registered for another run and contemplating two more.

meryl0707 reacted to HillaryA in Anyone women who started 350+ who have reached goal weight?
I'm just a lurker here but wanted to share as I know the frustration of not seeing a lot of people on here that started out at higher BMIs. First off, I'm not at goal, only about 1/2 way there. I started out at way more than most of you, my highest recorded weight was 463, and honestly I'm sure it was higher than that at some point. As of today I'm at 330. Altogether I've lost 133 lbs in 6 months. I've went from a (tight) size 38 in jeans to a 26. I really, really hope to be at goal by next July which will mean 273 lbs lost (seems impossible!).
The changes to my life have been staggering. I'm 35 and at my lowest weight in at least 10 years. I still have a lot of doubts about making it to goal but I just keep to the plan. At 6 months out I get in around 1200 calories and have no trouble sticking to that. A lot of people talk about the "head hunger," I never really had that. It was almost like after stuffing myself silly for YEARS I am ready to not really care about food. I still enjoy things that taste good but when people bring cake or doughnuts to work I don't have any problem passing them up. I follow a ketogenic diet (high good fats, moderate Protein, low carb) and it works for me. My body does not process carbs well at all.
I exercise 5-6 days a week, mix of cardio and strength training, and I feel so amazing and healthy. I don't gasp for air after climbing 10 steps, my joint and back pain has disappeared, and my high blood pressure has gone back to normal.
I'm not going to post any pictures - mostly because I don't have any saved to the computer, but I also still sort of hate pics of myself. I do take a new pic each month and when I need motivation I go back through them all and see all the changes and it helps keep me going.
I wish you all the best of luck! It's been a big adjustment but there's not a day that goes by that I regret it.
463 - 1/2/15 Start of pre-op diet
445 - 1/15/15 Day of surgery
330 - 7/5/15 Current weight

I am only 10.5 months post op. I have lost 117lbs and am still in weight loss phase. I have less than 30lbs to go.
I had RNY and I chose that surgery because I suffered from Reflux/Gerd. Bypass cures that illness in the majority of cases. In my case it cured it along with type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and stage 3 kidney disease.
All of those diseases were brought on because of my being obese.
I have gone from a size 26 to a size 12! I never thought I would be able to get down to a healthy weight. I am very close to a healthy BMI.
Weight loss surgery is a scary decision to make but when you are ready you won't be so scared anymore. I just hope that you choose a path that helps you lose weight before you do damage to your bodies. Whatever path that might be.
Although I got rid of a lot of my comirbitities as listed above, I did serious damage to my joints and my spine. I waited much to long to do something about my weight.
Even though I have joint damage, I can do more things now than I have in 25 years. I can run up the stairs, walk for miles, I literally have my life back!

meryl0707 reacted to provenzee in Worst things people have said to you or behind your back regarding surgery
Half of my family have weight issues like I do, and the other half are thin with perfect figures. Whenever I mention the surgery to the family members who have weight issues, they always tell me how excited they are for me to be taking this step in my life. Whenever I mention it to the thin half they always say things like, oh you don't need the surgery, do it on your own, and that its the easy way out. People who have never been overweight do not understand the struggle we go through everyday and how hard it is to lose weight. If I could do this on my own, dont you think I would have by now? Its frustrating but I am doing this because it is what I want, and what I need. Focus on the ones who support you, because anyone in our shoes would take this opportunity if they had it.

Have the surgery, change your lifestyle to healthy eating and exercise, and just smile when all the compliments come rolling in about how fabulous you look.
