Why must they give you a surgery date without insurance approval?
meryl0707 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just feeling really nervous now. I just finished up all of my requirements for surgery and got my surgery clearance. Now I have to wait for my surgeon's office to submit to the insurance company and wait for a response. Why bother giving me a surgery date when they may deny? It's so stressful. Ugh. Fingers crossed. -
How long does it take to know if you are approved?

Ivy4u-took your advice and called to see if they received the paperwork (I was actually calling about another claim but thought I'd ask). I was approved. My surgeon's office just got my surgery clearance yesterday afternoon. So this was 24 hrs. ( Less than, really) I'm really happy. -

I got the approval. I called my insurance on another matter and inquired to see if they received the paperwork and they told me they did and I was approved. 24 hours. Pretty relieved. -
Got my surgery date MARCH 24th... who's with me?

My surgery date is March 12th. I just had my pre admission testing done yesterday and I have my clearance physical this morning. This is the last thing. I am hoping things go well and I can just make it to the date. I am anxious and nervous. I would love to have buddies, too. :-) -
Congrats! You're almost there. I'm so happy for you! :-) My date is March 12th. We should keep in touch so we can share our experiences.

Communication is key with your partner. I'm really happy he's in your corner. :-)

Way to go! I'm so happy for you. :-) -
Welcome! You'll find varied age ranges here. I went to a support group in November and there was no one under 40 there. I'm 32 and scheduled for surgery March 12th. If you have questions or want to chat, let me know. I've been through the initial consultation, 5 months of the 6 month supervised diet ( required by my insurance), psych eval and re-consultation so far. I have appointments every week until my surgery date. It's a challenging process but I'm looking forward to the day.

6 weeks until surgery and struggling with exercising.

Thank you both for responding. The doctor said that the off label uses for Metformin and Topomax are weight loss/appetite suppression. The Phentermine, which is a controlled substance is a weight loss drug. All three have side effects of tiredness or drowsiness. So I guess there is nothing I can do about it. I've been talking the meds for 4 days and I have lost 6 pounds. I will try your suggestions of doing a liquid protein diet or doing exercise in smaller chunks. My surgery date is scheduled for March 12th. My highest weight was 389. My initial consultation I weighed 379. At my month 5 supervised diet weigh in on the 23rd I weighed 270. I had my psych eval and re consultation on the 27th with doctor and I weighed in at 272. That's when he said I needed to lose more and prescribed me the meds. I asked him how much and he said, " I'm not going to tell you 20 pounds and then you don't lose 20 pounds. You need the surgery, but we want to minimize complications so try to lose weight. This will help you." -

I am new to this site. I am 32 and in my 5th month of my 6th month supervised diet. Highest weight was 389. Current weight is 365. I have been up and down 1 or 2 pounds but nothing more. I am struggling with exercising. I am feeling super tired. I was also told I needed to lose more weight before surgery. My surgery put me on Metformin, Phentermine and Topomax to help me lose weight. I suspect this is why I am feeling tired. Anyone have any suggestions?
