High protein, low fat and not enough veggies post sleeve surgery ?
kmd0235 replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You might also google Dr. Matthew Weiner- he's a bariatric surgeon and has a lot of helpful videos on his website. He takes a different approach re: veggies and actually advocates that after three months, bariatric patients should eat their veggies FIRST- focus on veggies, Beans, legumes, and view meat as a condiment. He advocates eating fresh, unprocessed foods. It's an interesting approach and one worth taking a look at, particularly if you are a big veggie eater. -
Thanks for the feedback. I think I will stick to just having a few sips.

I'm eight weeks out. My doctor's plan allows carbonated beverages after one month, but I managed to quit diet cokes during pre-op. I usually only had one, two max, per day when I was drinking them. I had a few sips of my daughter's diet coke last week. And I've continued to have a few sips ever since. Sadly, it still tastes good to me and does not bother my sleeve at all. Sigh. I wish it did. I know I should not pick up this habit again. Talk me down from the ledge. (Or tell me I can have it. I'll take that, too. )

Have you tried GENEPRO? I mix it with iced tea. It's not thick and it actually dissolves.
-
It's the only Protein I've found that actually dissolves and doesn't alter the taste. I put it in my iced tea in the morning with some squirts of Dasani flavor drops- it's awesome.

Tator tot hotdish?
kmd0235 replied to Woodland4807's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would follow what your nutritionist tells you- everybody's guidelines are different. I'm not allowed potatoes, bread, etc., which is why I said that in my previous post. -

No taters. Stick with Proteins only. -
Still weigh more than surgery day!
kmd0235 replied to valcatlett4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am four weeks out, and the best decision I've made throughout this process is to NOT weight myself for this very reason. I know myself well enough to know that if I weighed daily and did not see a drop, I would become frustrated. I have chosen to follow the rules, trust the process, and let the weight come off when it wants to. And I have to tell you it is the most peace of mind I've ever had about my weight. So my advice to you is jump right off that scale and don't weight yourself until your next doctor's visit. I promise you will be happy! (P.S., you're probably still retaining Fluid from everything they pumped in you during surgery- it will come right off!) -
I love the Fairlife! I drink the 2%- it has such a creamy taste and more Protein than regular milk. My only issue with Almond Milk is it doesn't have hardly any protein. Yes, milk has carbs, but we do need some carbs.
-
So, I still struggle with the Protein shakes, but I think I've finally found an alternative. This morning, I made some unsweet, decaf tea and added a scoop of the genpro protein (which is the only one I've found that actually seems to dissolve), then I added a squirt of the Crystal Light Tropical Coconut Water Enhancer. 30 grams of protein, and it tastes good!

Could it be trapped gas? I've had occasional bouts of severe gas that have left me in a ball on the floor. (Pre-sleeve).

After being on all liquids for nearly four weeks, I got the all clear today to move to purees and mushies. I am having egg salad for lunch, and I have never been so excited to have an egg before in my life. Praise the Lord, I can chew again!!

You are like me in that way both have a relatively small amount of weight to lose compared to those that will be losing 100+ pounds. I think in some ways the decision is harder when you have a little less to lose because you do tell yourself that you can do it "on your own." And yes, I was successful "on my own" at losing, but never maintaining. Honestly, I just got sick of the struggle. Plus, once I turned 40 and my metabolism slowed, it became extremely difficult to lose. I also have co-morbidities and decided that I wanted to lick this issue once and for all. I am 4 weeks out, and although it has not been easy, I am happy with my decision. I feel great and am wearing clothes that have been sitting in the back of my closet for years.

Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015
kmd0235 replied to JosieAppleHead's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi guys! I was sleeved 6/29 and down 22 pounds. Just got to start pureed foods today, so I am very excited about that! All is well, although I am sick to death of Protein shakes. -
Dumping syndrome or something else?
kmd0235 replied to T.Whitaker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I experience the same thing, and I think it's just how my body processes being on an all liquid diet. I get stomach cramps, and then I'd better find a restroom quickly because the "waste" does not want to wait! I met with my NUT today, and she advised adding in some Benefiber, so hopefully that will help. Also, I get to start on pureed foods today (woo hoo!), and I'm hoping that helps, as well. -
One week post op, I was just able to drink 10oz of juice....
kmd0235 replied to IJFlores's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The juice is fine when you're on liquids only. We have to get our carbs from somewhere, and my nutritionist recommended diluted juice or G2. I'm struggling to get the recommended 30 grams of carbs in. -
So, not exactly, but if you're still on liquids like me and sick to death of the same ol' shakes, I concocted this today for something different and it kind of reminded me of a Butterfinger milkshake: blend together a vanilla Protein shake (I used Premier), some SF chocolate syrup (I used Hershey's), a tablespoon of PB2 and some ice. Voila. Something different.

I am three weeks out and am supposed to do liquids only for another week. I am going to a restaurant tonight, and the Soup option is clam chowder. Do you think it would be ok to eat that (not the clams- I don't even like clams that much), but just the creamy part of the soup? Other options are mashed potatoes or a baked potato.

Odd response from my potential doctor

Find another doctor. I think his request is absurd. -
This liquid crap in on my last nerve...
kmd0235 replied to janeencooper@hotmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, do I share your pain. I'm 2.5 weeks post-op, on full liquids, but I have to stay on liquids only for another 2 weeks. I picked up pizza for the family tonight because that's just how nice I am. Now the scent lingers in the kitchen and I kind of want to cry. -
Way to go! Keep up the good work!

I don't know about Mexico specifically because my surgery was here, but your surgeon should be able (and willing) to tell you about complication rates.

Is everyone out there on 2 week liquid diet post op?
kmd0235 replied to halfpintvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine is 4 weeks of liquids, 4 weeks of pureed proteins only, 4 weeks of adding in some fruits and veggies, then released. -
I would give anything for a Diet Coke...
kmd0235 replied to Psychsnob's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep- missing my Coke Zero! My doc says carbonation is ok after the first month, but I'm going to try to stay away.
