Week 1 - Am I drinking too much too fast?
tkcan replied to newmeme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am on 14 post op . Right from the first day I never even felt like I had surgery. I have had no pain I have slight bruising around my incisions. I have had no problem drinking my protein shakes or getting all my water in . I am getting scared that I do not feel any restriction but from what I read that is normal with just liquids . I am just worried that this surgery is not going to work and I am going to fail at this . I have only lost 1 pound in a week . -
I start it on Feb. 10. It's going to be really hard because I leave for PV Mexico on Feb15. I will be doing my pre op diet at an all inclusive resort there. All that food!! Surgery is the 24 and I fly home March 1.

Hi, My surgery is scheduled for February 24.

How soon can u drive after surgery?

I am scheduled to have my surgery in Mexico on February 24. How bad is the post op pain? I know everyone is different. What hurts more the incisions or stomach? As the day gets closer I'm getting more nervous. I will be staying in Mexico for five days after my surgery. I was worried about flying home to soon. I read stories about people going shopping and for long walks on the beach to days after their surgery. I am just scared that the pain is so bad that I will be lying in bed not able to do anything. Any ideas on what to eat at an all inclusive resort for my preop diet? That's going to be the hard part being surrounded by all that food.

How did your conversation with your pcp go? I brought up that I was thinking about WLS at my last appt. And my pcp said that "seemed very drastic" and then prescribed me a $700/mo injection medicine for diabetes that my insurance wouldn't cover (I'm not diabetic) that has the side effect of weight loss (which I didn't even fill the prescription).... so I am looking for a new doctor and trying to come up with a way and courage to bring up the wls again. So please post how your conversation goes and how you brought it up. Thank you and good luck! -

I think when you tell anyone about going to Mexico for surgery everyone's normal reaction is to freak out. People that have never gone to Mexico have no idea how clean, safe and beautiful it is there. I have my surgery scheduled for the end of February and I'm not telling anyone because I don't think that anyone understands. I have researched this for over a year and I'm sure you have to. Good luck! -
Any Oregon members that had VSG in Mexico?

I am from Canada. I have talked to my doctor about going to Mexico for surgery. She is against it. There are a couple of patients at the clinic that have gone to Mexico some were OK but one woman has to use a feeding tube. I think it is very important to research everything you can. Talk to other patients. It's very hard because I think a lot of people on weight loss forums are patient Cordinator's and of course they're not going to say anything bad. I have my surgery scheduled for the end of February in Puerto Vallarta. I am excited but very nervous. I have researched for over a year and I feel comfortable in my decision. Good luck to you! -

Feel so unsupported

I have no support. my husband is against my decision to go to Mexico. I have been talking about it for a year and explaining to him that the doctors in Mexico are probably better and more experienced than they are in Canada. I have made my decision to go with or without his support. I am going in January I am not putting this off any longer because of him. I want to be happy and healthy and I'm not letting anyone get in my way of that. I would love to have my husband to go with me I don't want to travel alone but it is what it is. -
I know everyone is different but I was wondering if I could hear peoples experience about post op pain and flying home. How bad is the pain how, long does it last and how uncomfortable is it to fly home five hours? If you had to do it over again would you have stayed longer?

Thanks for the info!

Can anyone tell me which is better for a doctor to use to close incisions , glue or Staples? The doctor that I'm thinking about using uses Staples. He says that Staples hold better. He takes the drain and the staples out after the third day.
