Fatty Liver Disease and LBS
Dootson replied to mommakatx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don’t worry about fatty infiltration of the liver, is totally reversible. Once you loose weight the fat deposits all over your body will be reduced… including the liver. -
Why no caffeine and no carbonation
Dootson replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doctor said to avoid soda because the carbonation in the soda will cause my pouch to stretch. -
Do you tell your kids about having LBS?
Dootson replied to Blund's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my kids about the surgery (son 9 & daughter 6 years old). I wanted them to know exactly why I would be staying overnight in the hospital. I did not want them to worry. I explained how I had to go through so many tests before the Dr. would operate on me. By-the-way it’s been one week since my surgery (1-23-08) and I feel great! I’m so looking forward to going off the Clear liquids tomorrow. -
What was your pain level after surgery?
Dootson posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for 1-23-08 and I’m starting to worry about how much pain I will have after the surgery. If you could rate the pain you experienced from 1 to 10 (10 being the most painful) what would it be? Also, what type of pain did you have and how long did it last? Thanks for any info you can provide! -
Sleep Study... How many are necessary?
Dootson posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m in the process of completing my pre-opt testing. I had a sleep study done in November and now the pulmonary Dr. wants me to undergo another sleep study because of inconclusive results. I don’t want to do another sleep study. It was a very unpleasant experience. I could not sleep with all of the wires and knowing that I was being watched. The thought of someone watching me just creeps me out. I know the results will be the same… inconclusive. I have difficulty falling asleep under those circumstances. The Dr. refuses to clear me for surgery if I don’t have the study. I’m thinking of seeing another pulmonary Dr. to get the clearance for my surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the third week of January ’08. Has anyone else had to undergo multiple sleep studies? :help: -
Sleep Study... How many are necessary?
Dootson replied to Dootson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jmcamba, Sorry you had to go through with the two sleep studies. I’m glad everything worked out well and you’re off the machine. ALOCO53, I agree with you. I also thought it was just another way to rip off the insurance company. My insurance company was billed almost $4,000. I had to pay an additional $350 out of my own pocket. There is no way I will have a second sleep study. I’ll see what the new Dr. says and I won’t mention anything about snoring when I meet with him. That was the BIG mistake I made with the first Dr. WARNING to anyone going for per-opt testing… Don’t mention to them that you snore or else you will have to be subjected to a sleep study!!! -
Hi. I just wanted to introduce myself. It’s my first time to these boards. I just got the OK from my insurance company today for my surgery. I'm a bit nervous, but am looking forward to finally being thin. I have struggled all my life with my weight. If you can name it, I have tried it, Weight Watchers, prescription diet pills such as amphetamines and Phen-Phen, fasting… etc. The only success I ever had was with phen-phen (lost 85 lbs). But I gained it all back within 4 years. I look forward to reading these boards for inspiration and support.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! Everything is a bit overwhelming right now. I’m trying to mentally prepare for the surgery and the lifestyle changes. Food has been such a big part of my life…it’s like saying goodbye to and old friend. But I am determined to make this work. Again, thanks to everyone for the welcome and word of encouragement.
