1 Year After Surgery, Still Going Strong!
mikekallison replied to Dysruption's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
December 17, 2014 was my date. I weighed 398 pre-surgery and now as of tonight.....So I weighed myself after dinner tonight in my skibbies and I weighed 190!!!! Holy Fu@&ing S#^+!!!! Can't believe it. So I'm probably less because I have food in my system from the day, but holy moly!!!!! To date from surgery a total loss of 208 lbs!!!!! As a teacher at a high school, I'm constantly on the move. I average 15k steps at school alone and then run with the dog in the evening. I credit my doctor, my support system, most of all besides my commitment to this, I thank my wife the most. December 17, 2014 was my date. Food Funeral, Last Meals?
mikekallison replied to nicash4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greetings: First, congratulations on the beginning of your new journey. Surgery changed my life and has made such an impact on my life. In terms of food, you will be able to eat some of the same things you used to have, but you will have to remember to do a few things. -First, moderation and smart decisions are key. You will only be able to eat small amounts of food once you are on your forever diet after your regimented diet after surgery. -Second, you can have a burger, but eat it without the bun, and order a kids burger. You should be able to get a card from your surgeon's office that allows you to order off a kids menu. Don't order fries, instead, order steamed broccoli or fruit. You must remember to eat your Protein first! When I go into a restaurant, I order off a kids menu and usually get the sides boxed to go so I don't even have them on my plate, and the same with Soup and/or salad, if I order off the full menu. For example, we went to Chilis the other day, and I ordered a salad and it came with soup and I had the soup boxed to go. -Third, make smart decisions. Same rule as the first. If you don't make such a smart decision, your body will tell you so and most likely you will throw up. That will be a natural social consequence that you will learn from---We all have gone through it. -Fourth, when you feel it in your body that you can't eat any more, STOP!!!! Your body will tell you. -Fifth - YOU WILL DO GREAT!!!!!! Be committed and stay committed and you'll do great. Hope this helps. Mike -
Heartburn and Diarrhea
mikekallison replied to mikekallison's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you everyone. No milk, except for unsweetened almond milk. No reaction to that. I'm on Prevacid twice daily and it helps most days. I just want my body to become regular again and am losing patience with diarrhea. As for eating, I'm following the prescribed menu. Just wondering how long it will take to get back to normal. Doctor says it will take time. I'm just being a baby and want to be normal again. -
Hi. I'm 15 days post-op and have heartburn and am running to the porcelain g-d. I hate this. I've now moved to the blended diet but still have broth and jello at times. I also take my vitamins and protein drinks. Will this eventually end and will I be regular again??? Thoughts? Thanks.

I'm 15 days after surgery. All I can say is that I give you kuddos for asking for help. Try to remember why you did this in the first place. Remind yourself of the reasons and your goals. I do that everyday as I suffer heartburn and diarrhea daily. There's light at the end of the tunnel. I'm 42, married with a son. I want to be here for a while. What do you want to do? Hope this helps.

Post-OP Liquid Diet Phase
mikekallison replied to ready2livenow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Greetings: I am 7 days after surgery and 6 days after beginning liquid diet and am in the same boat, however, I am not a vegeterian. However, I hear your pain in doing the same thing. I have clear broth for all of my meals mixed with Protein powder and am sticking to the 4 ounce guide. I am also drinking a lot of Water inbetween feedings. But I am bored to death and can't wait for cottage cheese and fruit juice, as I love cottage cheese and fruit. I am afraid to push the limit and begin doing the greek yogurts, blended foods, because each phase is supposed to be 2 weeks, according to where I had my surgery done. I don't see my surgeon until the 31st, but will be putting a call into the dietician tomorrow. I wish all well here. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. -
Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
mikekallison replied to boredswfl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi. I have a wonderful team of doctors and phenomenal surgeon. The only doctor I would not recommend is Dr. Hart's office, as he is the pulmonologist, and he and his office are horrible. He lacks respect, a bedside manner, and his staff are disrespectful, rude, and lack follow through. Now that's done, I went through the Kane Center in Hoffman Estates, IL and have had a wonderful experience. Dr. Guske is my surgeon and has a terrific bedside manner, is throrough, goes over and beyond, and understands the needs of his patients. His office staff are top notch, and he is partners with Dr. Kane, who I saw in the hospital and was just as warm, encouraging, and inviting. The office provides weekly support groups and the hosptial, St. Alexis, provides 24-hour phone support even when home from the recovery unit. So I am 5 days post-op, counting the day of surgery, and feeling good. The only things I don't like is the running to the toilet every so often, but I know that will change soon. But again, I have faith and trust in the Kane Center, Dr. Guske, and St. Alexis/Alexian Brothers Hosptial. Top notch!!!!!!
